1. I use one of these as an alternative to carrying my bigger 2x10 Ashdown combo. Originally I got it for home use but have used it at rehearsals and at a couple of bigger gigs where I DI'd it into the house PA using it as a monitor. It was great in all these circumstances. Big sound even with my 5 stringers. You do have to watch the gain as the meter goes red and distorts very easily, especially the low B. A good buy.
 2. They sound good too, but in a bigger venue you'll need to DI into the PA.

 5. I originally got a 5 some years ago as my band at the time had a really good keyboard player (who actually played with both hands) and was inclined to trespass on my sonic territory, plus also a girl singer who always made sure the key was the best one for her range, often being D downwards. The five allowed me to keep low when I needed to. It didn't take me very long to ge used to having the extra width to play with and was in fact very handy in alowing me to change neck position and put in more umph on the same passages as the song progressed.Active pickups, which are more normal for 5s are another bonus. I now have 3 V's including a recently acquired passive one. The killer agument though is that with a 5 you can hit that really low B at the beginning of Comfortably Numb and shake the glasses off the bar! Redult!
 6. I'm also a 5 stringer, also in the North East and have had this happen to me too. I blame the troglodytes who play the guitars, they feel threatened by someone who might be able to do something other than stand in the back row and plonk along to their guitar hero antics.

 10. I had one of these in white. Great rock bass but lacking a bit on subtlety, which was OK, I don't do sublety! Sold it to a Blur(?) / Duff McKagen fan for £200.
 11.
It's just the lid that's messed up. If I could find somewhere to buy it I would consider it as I'm skint.
Try CH Guitars in South Shields.
 12.
Well, I've finally given in to my GAS and hit the button on a Fender Lyte on USA eBay. Having said that, from what I've read some people are really happy with the sound of their Lyte and some find it a bit weedy. The one I bought has the original pickups and electronics and I wondered what people's experiences of this bass were. Obviously too early to start thinking about changing the electronics but it seems like a fairly common mod on this bass. Discuss...
I've had a P Lyte for years now. Early on I had Howard (aka Bass Doctor) put in some EMG pups running at 18v and the sound can be enormous when you want it and subtle when you don't. Excellent bass, pity they never did it in 5 string!

What on earth was that strange bass with the fanned out frets his guy was playing?
Duh. Senior moment as I looked down the page. Ignore. I'm getting a drink!!

 16. As a Peavey Cirrus player I was doing a bit of internet searching for like minded players and came across this amazing chick that plays a 5 like mine - except a lot better than I do. Looks a lot better too. Dammit! Check it out.
 17.
I really like the Ampeg BA 500 and annoyingly narrowly missed out on one recently. I am new to this forum and have only been playing bass (fender precision) for over a year but the band i'm in (a math-pop effort, so not heavy stuff) have started to get support with good touring bands and i want to start looking the sh*t, no more £25 head nonsense. please can people suggest combos that are 2x10 and are around 350w. i would ideally like a graphic eq as i own a metaphors pedal so would like more manipulation than a three band, i would prefer a tilt type and a balanced xlr is a must. price range i'll go upto around £500 for a second hand. (i've been looking at hartke 2x10, does anyone have an opinion on that) ta.
Ashdown ABM 300 or 500 2X10 combo works for me.
 18.
If you can find a Fender Precision Lyte, they REALLY are marvelous. Lightweight, thin neck, huge sound. Also Danelectro Longhorns weigh nothing, are quite cheap and have a good sound - worth looking for one of the new ones. I suffer with a crap back too, by the way - happy hunting.
I'll second the Pricision Lyte option. I've had mine for years and you really notice the difference when you've been using anything else. Great tone, no shortage of bottom espacially since I had the Bass Doc fit EMGs, good neck and well balanced. I also use the stretchy padded straps that Overwater sell. Oh yeah and a DI box unless the singer wants to carry in you bass amp each time!
 19.
Google Calender is what our manager uses to keep us all in line
Excellent, I'll give it a try. Cheers peeps.
 20. Does anyone have any good ideas about how to keep some kind of online group year planner thingy so all the members of a band can keep an eye on available dates? With 5 members in our band, all of whom have their own lives and commitments and all of whom are constantly on the outlook for gigs, it makes it tricky to accept a gig booking withiout checking everybody's up to date diaries. What would be ideal I guess would be something that could be checked on a mobile phone. It occurs to me that businesses must have the same problem in ensuring that their people are all available to carry out a job before accepting a contract. Any ideas??
