1.
i've got my main rig, but I need a new combo, for days that the whole band is squeezing in one car and space is at a premium. Our drummer is really loud though (without being mic'd) So I need an amp that will keep up with a very loud drummer, for smallish venues, and as compact as possible No other criteria is really important. My other choice is to take my bigger amps and drive myself- something I hate doing in London, what with parking, unloading etc. What would you suggest? Not sure how small you need it but I use an Ashdown ABM 300 combo which goes in my boot easily and has more than enough power for just about any gig - after which it can be fed therough the PA. thanks
2. Pete Cetera playing on the Chicago's CTA, first track Introduction - and most of the rest too. And he sings too! Nobody loves a smartarse!
 3.
There's a 4 string and a 6 string on eBay for £1649 and £1889 respectively!
They would be new ones presumably.
 4. Very experienced bassist. Living in Washington, Tyne & Wear. Wide musical taste (which means no rap), good kit and own transport. Always been in bands but the last one imploded a couple of months ago. Any offers?
 5.
Looks like plastic that's been peeled back a bit?
No. The plastics fine except for a scratch by the B string tuner. Must be the light on the picture.
 6.
Blimey, that's a lot of bass for the price!
Well, its not new and has been well played plus that's what I got it for. Also don't want to exploit other bassists. Interested?
 7.
A seriously tasty bass. If I may ask, how come is it no longer your first love?
I would'nt say that, but I'm not currently in a band, and I do have 3 other basses plus 8 guitars!!
 8.
what's up with the headstock? it looks like there's a big crack on it by the G string tuner? By the way, this link I got from TB a few months ago in on a thread there about the Cirrus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWEjrFxfaBE They sound pretty tasty to me
No its a scratch, an old one, looks like the previous owner was a bit careless changing strings.
 9. I have decided that I do not really use my Peavey Cirrus custom 5 enough to justify keeping it any more. People familiar with the model will probably agree with me that the Cirrus is one of, if not the, best looking basses ever made. I bought this from a guy in America about 2 years ago. I saw a review in Bassist about 15/20 years ago and it had been love at first sight. It had my ambition for 20 years or so to get one and I finally had the money. It is a five stringer, Wenge construction and looks absolutely gorgeous. It has a 35 inch straight through neck which stops the 5th string buzz very effectively with excellent sustain and an active 3 band EQ running on 18Volts. Being a proper custom model it is USA made and should not be confused with the BXP series. It plays and sounds like a dream through my Ashdown combo and even bettrr through a tube amp if you have one. The range of tones available is phenomenal but it also has its own voice which, I must admit, I tend to use most. It comes with its own Peavey case. I'm looking for offers over £650 plus P+P.
 10.
Was that from guitarguitar or something? I remember seeing on their website they had 3 of them or something, and a bunch of other stuff for okay deals.
IF yopu're still looking for a Black Beauty, I was in Guitarguitar in Newcastle this afternoon and they have one standing just inside the door. I did'nt try it our in case I was tempted - divorce can be very expensive!!!
 11.
well first time after practice last night my left ear was really hurting, still is to be honest so i think now is the time to do something about it (might be a bit late but better than not at all) seeing as my amp is now really chucking out the volume. so is it possible to pull over the sticky from the last forum or shall we just start afresh. recommendations
I tried the earplugs I wear on my motorbike but couldn't really hear enough of the music, or my own tone. I find the best cure is to stand away from a) the PA the guitarist's stack and c) to keep on the snare side of the drummer. They tend to have their bigger cymbals on the other side - and big cymbals are REALLY loud, probably the loudest thing in the band. It's the high frequescies that cause the trouble.
 12.
I'm looking for an uber-comfortable strap. I currently use a Comfort strap, but the day after a gig I feel as if my shoulders are ready to drop off. Does anyone know of anything? I looked at those double straps that go across each shoulder but I'm not convinced.
Yes, getting old is a real bummer! I use those stretchy straps that Overwater sell. They are comfy and seem to take a lot of the weight off.
 13.
TBH, what I'd really like is a little miniature switch for ON/OFF. That way the bass can be left plugged in all the time. I mean, how hard can it be? Why don't the manufacturers do this?
Yeah. I used to have a Fender Active Jazz Bass Special which had a active/ passive switch. Very useful and also great for instantly altering the tone to a Precision-like donk when the song needed it. Don't know why they don't put them on all actives.
 14. Did anyone get along to the Sage last night? Wonderful gig by Feat and a demonstration of minimalist bass playing by Kenny Gradney. Less is more. OK he did get a solo spot, but very tasteful. Oh yes and I see see him slapping once but the song needed it. A lesson to us all.
 15. To those who appreciate great music and some killer bass lines, I've just received my latest Sage newsletter and see that my all time favourites, American legendary band Little Feat are on at the Sage in Gateshead on May 11th. Should NOT be missed.
 16.
Hi all The first Bass Bash of 2009 is confirmed - Sunday, March 1st, 2pm-5pm. The hall is nice and big, so bring your friends! Seaton Delaval Arts Centre Avenue Road Seaton Delaval Northumberland NE25 0DU clicky for map It's not far from Blyth, Cramlington and Whitley Bay, and it's ten minutes from the north side of the Tyne Tunnel... just up the A19. The load-in is a doddle.. straight off the street into the hall. Parking isn't tricky, but you might need to leave your car in adjacent street. Tea & coffee will be available. As mentioned earlier, a couple of quid towards hall hire would be nice but optional. So... what y'all bringing?
I'm planning to be there as my band rehearsal has been cancelled. I know where Seaton Delaval is, I know the ice cream place - but not the Arts Centre.
 17.
I think the fear might be insurmountable at the moment. But I've found a budget 35" scale: the Peavey Cirrus BXP. The whole Cirrus line seems to be 35", and the BXP puts it in my price range. Any thoughts on the Cirrus from anyone?
Got one. Love it.
 18.
Checked out a lot of practice amps in Edinburgh music shops over the weekend...had a budget of £100; was looking for something fairly small but beefy in tone but not that horrible boxy sound - found nothing suitable! Orange Crush B20 - nope Mrashall 15 - nope Line 6 Lowdown 15 - nope etc, etc, etc...all to middy boxy rubbish! Checked some net reviews on the ashdown perfect ten and decided to buy one. Anyone got one of these, use them and can give me an idea of what it is like? all comments and experiences appreciated. andy
I've got one and have found it really good. Like you I did the rounds of the music shops in Newcastle and found the Perfect Ten was the best sound by far, irrespective of price. I've used it at home, at rehearsals and a small gig. Mind, it struggles a bit with a 5 string and is quite heavy to cart around. Kevin
