Half of the Brum on that films been demolished and replaced with something worse still. Must be the only city centre thats been demolished and rebuilt twice since the 1960s
Brummagem has always been a fast changing city:
I Can't Find Brummagem - James Dobbs (1781-1837) music hall entertainer Full twenty years and more are passed Since I left Brummagem. But I set out for home at last To good old Brummagem. But ev'ry place is altered so Now there's hardly a place I know Which fills my heart with grief and woe For I can't find Brummagem. As I was walking down the street As used to be in Brummagem, I knowed nobody I did meet For they've changed their face in Brummagem Poor old Spiceal Stret's half gone, And Old Church stands alone And poor old I stands here to groan For I can't find Brummagem. But amongst the changes we have got In good old Brummagem They've made a market on the moat To sell the pigs in Brummagem. But that has brought us more ill luck For they've filled up Pudding Brook, Where in the brook jack-bannils took Near Good old Brummagem. But what's more melancholy still, For poor old Brummagem, They've taken away all Newhall-Hill From poor old Brummagem, At Easter time girls fair and brown, Came rolly-polly down, And showed their legs to half the town, Oh! the good old sights in Brummagem. Down Peck Lane I walked along, To find out Brummagem, There was the dungil down and gone What? no rogues in Brummagem, They've ta'en it to a street called Moor, A sign that rogues ain't fewer, But rogues won't like it there I'm sure, While Peck Lane's in Brummagem. I remember one John Growse, Who buckles made in Brummagem, He built himself a country house, To be out of the smoke of Brummagem But though John's country house stands still, The town has walked up hill, Now he lives besidea smoky mill, In the middle of Brummagem. Among the changes that abound In good old Brummagem, May trade and happiness be found In good old Brummagem. And tho' no Newhall hil we've got Nor Pudding Brook nor Moat, May we always have enough To boil the pot in Brummagem.
should i accept a compromise on a new bass ?
EssentialTension replied to mushers's topic in General Discussion
From what you say, I'd want my money back or a fully operational bass -
Another fan here.

I used a MAG300 1x15 combo with a 1x15 extra cab for a long time - it worked for me, nothing wooly at all despite what some people say, and no break downs.
It'd be interesting to see how many non muso types could name songs with a bass feature in it. Hat certainly, maybe Alright Now, My Generation and Level42 song of your choosing, but outside of those the bass is probably not noticed, I'd love to be really wrong about that and not giving Joe and Joanne Public enough credit.
Your average non-muso doesnt know what bass is, let alone being able to name a featured bass ... and there's no earthly reason why they should know. Similarly there's many things I couldn't do - I couldn't name or recognise most of the people I hear referred to as celebrities. EDIT: Actually, I don't even recognise many of the bassists or bands referred to on Basschat.
I'm staying in with room service.
A tribute band on room service, that's excellent. 'Hello, is that reception?' 'Ah, good, can you send up ABBA please.'
Hmmm - they are actually both aiming at a different question in my view.
I didn't take them to be exactly the same, just about related issues and so relevant to this thread. -

When is a covers band not a covers band?
EssentialTension replied to oggiesnr's topic in General Discussion
Cilla Black/Dionne Warwicks Anyone who had a heart for example. Big hits at more or less the same time.
... and written by Burt Bacharach and the recently deceased Hal David. -
I'm sure that must be a very well-crafted bass guitar but it holds absolutely no attraction for me.
So to go back to the post above yours, - was Elvis just a covers a singer when he sang Heartbreak Hotel? He didn't write it so I guess he must have been. Does Elvis actually write anything? If a band does a song that was written by one of the members, does that mean that the rest of the band are playing a cover?
... and I guess good old Elton must be doing original music but only covering the lyrics. And that Frank SInatra, he must have been just another covers band. -
Just a thought. But what about 'Standards' that were made famous by more than one artiste, none of whom wrote it. As were a lot of early rock n roll & 60s pop songs. If you play Leiber and Stoller numbers, for example, which were not recorded by the composer and have been done by countless others. is that still playing covers ? If it does, then does it follow that the The Coasters for example, were a covers band ?
These are covers: These are coasters: -
... If your trying to get more recognition ...
I'm totally not interested in recognition. I just like music and I like playing it and I like audiences enjoying it. I really couldn't give a sh*t who wrote the song, I'm only interested in whether the song is any good and whether audiences like it. However, in my experience, much so-called 'original' material is neither very 'original' nor very good, and sometimes it's dreadful. Indeed, it's often less 'original' than a new arrangements of an old song. -
I'm currently touring with a Michael Jackson tribute. The moneys good, the songs are good, the bass lines are good, the crowds are good, the theatres are good. The goods far out weigh the worry of not appealing to SOME bass chatters.
Very good, and I did correct it for you.
Not a Beatles fan myself, but remember their first album was all covers from their set, and they never expected success to last more than a year or two.
[pedant alert] The Beatles first album had fourteen tracks of which eight were credited McCartney-Lennon (not Lennon-McCartney). [/pedant alert]
... a good song is a good song. As a bass player, I couldn't care less who wrote it.
Yep, that's it.
Neil Young is a ... dreadful guitarist and his singing isn't much better.
I'd say Neil Young is a very expressive guitarist and also a great singer ..... but perhaps we're not listening to the same person.
So, I don't think tribute acts are necessarily degrading, cringeworthy or embarrassing... ... but the fact remains, sometimes they are. Exhibit A:
I don't think any music is necessarily degrading, cringeworthy or embarrassing... and whether tribute or covers or original, it makes absolutely no difference. I must have heard hundreds of cringeworthy originals bands in my time - probably played in some of them. The youtube link appears to be a 'dressed up for the part karaoke' and I didn't think it degrading, cringeworthy or embarrassing.

The very thought of it meant I was unable to bring myself to click play.
