2.
And the flip side then, "proper bass players only play four strings, everything can be done on a four with a D tuner etc etc etc" it can't and I personally should have gone to five years earlier.
Actually, in my experience it's the other way around: "proper bass players only play five strings, everything can be done on a five without a D tuner etc etc etc" - no one has ever told me that I ought to play four strings.
 3. ... and... "You need to get a five-string."
 4. "Learning music, learning theory, learning to read will stop you being creative" - That was total b******s for one thing. and "Playing other people songs is a waste of time, play your own songs," - That was total b******s too.
 5. I'm against solos on almost all occasions by almost all instruaments. Instrumental section to the music is fine but solos or soloing over the rest of the band, no, it's boring. Solo allowed as long as it's no more than eight bars and is based around the melody line of the song. There will be exceptions which prove the rule.
 6.
I'm finding it useful when I want to strum some big chords - hitting the bass-cut switch stops it getting too muddy....
That was definitely one reason for the 'strangle'. The other reason was to get the tic-tac sound for doubling the upright bass.
 7. Gareth, this might interest you: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=27464&sid=7b0c5708adb56ca4610e9ef517683d3d
 8.
Ok I got one of these today courtesy of ash (thanks very much and a very nice bloke to deal with ) but tell me what does the Bass-Cut "Strangle" Circuit do - it seems to make it more like a baritone in tone but boy does the volume drop when using this
The strangle circuit is a high pass filter and so you can expect some loss of overall volume associated with some loss of bottom end.
 9.
Hello people, where are you getting strings for your VI from? Sorry if this is a repeated question. 10.
Just put LaBella flats on, Whoa, hold me down!!!!!!!!!!!!! This bass makes the walls shake
Yep, that's it.
 11.
Same with Roto's Trubass too.
True enough, but the Rotos are bright golden yellow to the Pyramid bright golden orange
 12. Pretty good I'd say. I couldn't see any problem, contrivance or novelty with how they were dressed either.
 13.
Whilst we're talking about LaBellas, My Jazzer, Ibby Blazer and Warwick Fortress are 36" from where the ball end sits at the bridge to the nut. The 34" Scale LaBellas state that the silks are 34" from ball End to the start of the silk winding. Should I be looking at extra long scale strings for these basses, I would have thought not so I'm a bit confused to be honest. Anyone care to enlighten me ?? Cheers.
My long scale La Bellas are approx 37" (not 34") from ball end to silk.
 14. Very nice, good job.
 15. I used a Precision with an onboard preamp and flats for some years. It's great.
 16.
... I'm putting black nylon tapewound on my new active Jaguar
Very stylish. If you use the Pyramid Black Nylons then you'll get gold silks to match your lion. Nice.
 17.
... (You'll probably disagree with all this as we obviously have fundamentally different mindsets when it comes to music).
Correct.
Great post.
See above.
 18.
Feel free to disagree all you like, however I think that it is a bit off for a bunch of weekend warriors posting on the internet about a pro that is good enough to get the Carl Palmer gig, saying that he is giving “a badly executed and somewhat unmusical performance”! that just seems dumb and disrespectful to me...
OK, I hadn't realised you thought that as I am not a professional musician I'm not fit to comment on what real musicians do.
 19.
Not that old. I was just practising for the old people's home. Should I be lucky enough to be put into one.
... and your profile says age unknown. Spooky!
 20.
I have a son about your age. It used to be all trees round here. Is that my toast?
If you've got a son about my age then you are a very old f****r
 21.
That's me sorted then...
Ha ha, me too.
 22.
Hi, I dare to bump the topic. What would you say about GHS Pressure Wounds? I need flatwound strings with a quite bright sound but with a little less tension than Chromes. A long lifespan would be nice either.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GcQJyHGbeY
