1. Looking at the distance to the tailpiece on the Broadkaster, I wouldn't be surprised if you need long scale strings.
2. Surely that's at least one zero too many.
3. I bought a chorus pedal from Nick. Clear, straightforward, and fast and when I managed foolishly to slightly overpay NIck threw in some connectors to make up the difference. Top guy, I say deal with him now.
4.
...the caveat emptor (buyer beware) principle does still apply sadly, and ignorance (as in no Ts and Cs to hand) is not generally accepted as an excuse in law. You would probably have to demonstrate that you had tried hard to find the information...
.. and the information that you can't in any real sense insure a musical instrument with Parcelforce is easily available here at Basschat as we have had this same conversation several, possibly many, times.
5. No, I'll be reading one of the classics instead.
6. Best to assume you'll have to pay it, reckon on 25%, and then when you do get away with it, you'll be happy.
7.
Macca's violin bass. That would do me. Got to be the most valuable, iconic bass. Ever.
Maybe even most valuable, iconic musical instrument. Ever.
8. It's definitely hit and miss. Parcel value over £60 and it arrived no customs charges. Two days later, parcel value £40 plus customs charges.
9. If anyone is having intonation or other bridge problems I highly recommend the Staytrem replacement bridge. It's not cheap at £65 but I'd say it was well worth it. You'd need the 9.5" radius for the Squier or for the Pawn Shop: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wide-bridge-to-fit-Fender-Bass-VI-and-Pawn-Shop-Bass-/181241712541?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item2a32d90f9d
10. Keep what I've got and pay the mortgage.
11.
Really? A hundredth of the time?
You haven't been to one of my band's rehearsals have you?
12.
... It doesn't follow the musical rules; it has a perception of exclusivity, of intellectualism and manner that isn't open to everyone; and it's a feedback loop, that has begun to play back upon itself...
... and I was thinking it was dance music.
13. Very nice Jake, When is the album out?
14.
Mention 'jazz' to people and, aside from a few who like it, the reactions seem to be very negative, some even hostile. People don't react like this to 'classical' music do they? So why is jazz the recipient of so much unfair stereotyping and derision? Or is it? Mention 'metal' or 'hip hop' to a lot of people and they might react similarly.
I am a teacher. I have some classical music playing while the class works. Female student says "I don't like this music". I say "Why not?". She says "Because it's jazz".
15.
What I said .
Amen brother.
16.
I think that's another myth, personally . Same as the one about classical players not being able to improvise....
It is definitely a myth. I've played with some and listened to lots of classically trained players who could improvise. Here's a classically trained musician (who I have not played with ) and he is improvising. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCa3iyBekCs
17.
A lot of people who learn theory neglect the most important part - ear training. For example its all very well knowing that G -> C is a perfect cadence in C but if you cant "hear" what it sounds like in your mind then the knowledge is of little use.
That makes no sense. To know what a perfect cadence is I have to know what it sounds like. Anyway who are these people neglecting ear training while learning supposed theory. If there are such people then they aren't learning anything.
18. Yes, ghost note or dead note: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_note
19. Wouldn't a double sharp symbol go in front of the note rather than replacing the note head?
20. Isn't it a ghost note?
21.
... old oil cans ...
This is a frying pan:
22. If you know what a root note is and you know what a chord is then it's not merely noodling - but there probably won't be any need for a theory book.
23.
They really should make a bass with just a simple pick up, passive vol and tone (after all amps do everything else you need), a nice contour to rest your arm, and a neck with precise frets and easy to adjust pegs.
Hmmm, I might buy one of those.
24. Whatever the next big thing is in bass guitar development, it's probably unlikely that I'll be buying one.
