1. It's a straight swap with no problem. I have done it. http://basschat.co.u...i/page__st__150 .. see post 177
 2.
TBH I can't really see the point of the majority of Fender signature basses, unless the originals have been heavily modified to suit their owners requirements in which case I would image the market would be fairly limited, especially in the current conservative climate regarding musical instruments.
I'd agree with this. The few exceptions will be at least slightly out of the ordinary like, maybe, the Tony Franklin fretless Precision with P/J set up and unlined ebony board. A Jamerson Sig, for example, would just be a 62 reissue.
 3.
Without wanting to be a party pooper I think that there are already far too many signature basses on the market...especially Fender models.

Agreed that there are a heck of a lot of Fender sigs out there already though!
The reason for that will be related to the number of Fender users.
 4.
Sorry if this has been done but what "famous" bass guitars would you dig if you could get a company to release a replica? I think mine would be this fella Leo Lyons 1962 Jazz Bass. Sublime
Do you just mean a 62 Jazz or do you mean relicked to look like that?
 5.
... true musicians ...
That's me excluded then.
 6.
Right, but you're talking about one of the most talented guitarists of all time with a particular knack for tasteful rhythm parts in a studio context. He performed it live with one guitar and no issues. It's far easier to get more to work in a studio mix for several reasons - the guitarists aren't in control of their own volumes or frequency content, and stereo separation creates more sonic space for them to sit in, whereas live music is nearly always mono. Any more than one guitar in a live performance setting has the potential to get very ugly very quickly, unless the musicians know exactly what they're doing.
So I stand by what I said.
 7.
... Most of the reasons given is, "it muddys the sound" ...
My reply to that would have been something like 'Oh so that's why Hendrix sounds so crap on Little Wing with its three guitars'. ... or some comment about the three guitars on many Motown recordings.
 8. I don't know about the Variax but different strings definitely sound different with an underbridge piezo on both my Takamine B10 and my Michael Kelly Dragonfly.

 10.
Stuart Sutcliffe played a Hofner, and Lennon and Harrison didn't play Gretsch and Ricky until around 62 when they got them on the never never
Well, OK, pedantic, but Lennon's Rickenbacker is usually dated as a 1960 never-never purchase in Hamburg, and Harrison is usually said to have paid £70 cash for his Gretsch in 1961 in Liverpool, and Sutcliffe had left by the end of 1960. But either way, they weren't all playing Hofners even before the Ricky and the Gretsch.
 11.
What do you prefer? I don't want to get onto the differences between the two basses, etc. I'm just after your preferences.
I've never played a Music Man, I've played lots of Precisions which are obviously therefore the winner.
 12. Sale thread here: http://basschat.co.u...qdi-l95-posted/
 13.
Squier VM Jaguar SS, very light, very comfy, nice player, decent tone, well built, or try the Squier Classic Vibe Mustang. The Beatles didn't play Hofners through choice, due to the trade embargoes after the war you just couldn't get Fenders, (and god knows who wanted Gibsons!) until around 1960. I love short scale basses, they're a do dele to play, the downside being less sustain but apart from that they're great!
Only McCartney played a Hofner. In the early days Lennon played a Rickenbacker and Harrison played a Gretsch.

 15.
Hi, I'm about to get a white squier vintage modified vi (present from the wife) but of course have to wait for delivery...I have the chance of a black one immediately. Either way I want to change the scratch plate to a 3 ply black\white\black. Any one know of anywhere I can get one? I had a custom mustang scratch plate made by bass doc and it was lush-it absolutely finished my project to the higehest standard. does anyone know if he still produces single plates on request? Many thanks Karl
I got my black pearl one from this guy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-VM-Bass-VI-Pickguard-4-Ply-Aged-Pearl-/321269875583?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4acd2d437f
 16. Now reduced to £80 posted. Fishman BP100 bridge-mounted dual-element piezo-ceramic pickup in original box. Bought new in spring 2012, this is used but in very good condition. The clips which hold the transducers on to the bridge are well used with the velvet coming away from the metal - however two brand new (still in the bag) clips are included in the sale. Stock photo:

 18.
Hi all. I'm new to the world of Bass guitars, so please bare with me ! I'm looking to purchase a beginners short scale bass, which is relatively light (I have issues with my left shoulder),and has little neck dive. My budget is £300 maximum, and I wondered if any of you can kindly recommend a bass within this price range.....? The two guitars I am interested in at the present time are as follows: Epiphone Viola Epiphone EB-0 (I could possibly stretch to the EB-3). I am open to other suggestions though ? For your information, I will mainly be playing Beatles covers. Many thanks.
The Epiphone Viola will probably be lighter than an EBO due to it being semi-hollow. Less light but probably a better bass will be the Squier Mustang. Also, there are cheaper versions of the light Hofner Violin bass in your price range. You need to get in a music shop and try a few.
 19.
Here's Rick Laird a few years later.............
Am I seeing things or does Rick Laird's Precision have a Hagstrom Bisonic in the neck position?
 20.
... I have still to meet up with the rep and his string factory story... so that will be a definitive meeting
Any news?
