My Collection

4. Bach Custom Fretless Started off as a regular Bach but I wanted a fretless so rather than sell it and buy a fretless I customised it. I removed the frets, glued in some ebony veneer strips but didn't like the finish so I added a length of ebony veneer. Two coats of shellac and a finishing sand with baby oil/ 2000 grade paper. Tru Bass strings. I think I may need to upgrade the tuners as they're a bit feeble.
2. Nothing esoteric but here is my humble "collection". Click the thumbnails for fullsize images. 1. 1978 Fender Precision I've had this since about 1990 and is totally standard. 2. 1993/94 CIJ Fender Jazz (62 reissue) Recently acquired. Eastman pre-amp ready to be fitted. May also fit a chrome bridge cover. 3. Musicman Sub Recently acquired. Has an SD Basslines pickup and I added the new pickguard.
3. Long nosed pliers, insert prongs into jack, expand and turn anti-clockwise? Or drill two small holes 180 degrees apart in the edge of the jack and use a screwdrived/ chisel to "unscrew" it. Failing that, tap a thread in it, glue a bolt in the newly tapped thread and pull/ unscrew it out
4. and http://www.mia.org.uk/weekendwarriors/
5. I'm sure I read somewhere that the difference between the two woods is CIJ and MIJ. But elsewhere I read MIJ and CIJ (as labels) is purely date dependent..
6. Or keep your eyes on fleabay and buy an onboard pre-amp.
7. Bought a pre-amp. Arrived safe and sound.
8. Pulling the frets out should be easy if they're not glued (use a soldering iron to heat the fret up otherwise)- a pair of nail clippers will do it. Cutting and ftting the fretwire- not sure how hard that is. And you may not need glue either.
9. Here's what it looks like with a button:
10. I think you're trying to shame me into actually starting mine...
11. It's not expensive but as the first link in the chain it is an important one.
12. Terry Blyth posted a few weeks back: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1526 Costs are hidden on the pdf form you download. Think it was about £340 (?).
13. The episode is called Van Hickey, Episode Number: 29 Season Num: 2
14. I've been browsing tinterweb recently on a similar subject. A cheap/ good solution to clean a fretboard is Naptha or lighter fluid, maybe with a touch of mineral oil. To "oil" a fretboard try baby oil. Baby oil is mineral oil and 99.n% of Lemon Oil is mineral oil (the stuff sold to clean fretboards, not the lemon oil essence). Never wax as it attracts crud. And never, never silcone based products. And never chocolate either
15. I wondered why some Bacchus are dirt cheap and others 3 times the price...

Hi!

Welcome to the forum Please send some sunshine...
17. What's the Yamaha keyboard? My neighbour may be interested.
18. This site sells the tools to do it (but I have no idea how hard it is to do): http://www.stewmac.com and this may be of interest: http://www.bassplayer.com/story.asp?sectio...storycode=13213
19. Guess you were lucky
IF the consigment is liable to Customs Duty (see the "Tax Free Allowances" section below) Customs assess the total amount of Customs Duty to be paid based on the value of the goods, PLUS the transport and insurance costs to the country of destination. Other costs may be included such as tools, dies, moulds, design work, royalties, licence fees.. more... Note that VAT (Value Added Tax) is then added.
http://www.sloanefox.freeserve.co.uk/importukduty.htm http://www.warmoth.com/customerservice/cus...m?fuseaction=uk
20. google.de is also worth a search. You get the occasional "cheap" Sandbergs on ebay.de but most of they often won't ship to the UK and finding a German fleabayer who takes Paypal can be tough. The seller of #170123607705 wouldn't ship to the UK although #110146281821 takes Paypal.
21. There also some string reviews on http://www.bgra.net
22. Tax & duty, which is about 22%, is payable on the total price inc. delivery. There's some on German Ebay for a bit more: shop on ebay.de
23. A blown speaker in my practice amp turned out to be tin worm. The spade connectors were "rotten" and so lose it sounded like a blown speaker. Bit of solder and good as new
