  1. This was what I lusted after in the mid and late eighties when all I had was a Hohner jazz copy. An extremely cool bass at an outstanding price. And yes, I would, but my ACG fretless might be a bit jealous....
  2. Having just bought a different (and fabulous) Jap P from Steve, I do just want to vouch for his excellent standing as a seller. A true gent!
  3. Biggest-bargain-on BC-since-I-bought-my-ACG-Jazz type bump. These are amazing and make excellent workhorses.
  4. I've been looking to try a US G&L for a few weeks now, and am close to giving up because they seem to have almost zero distribution. Yes, their site lists a UK distributor, who in turn lists UK 'outlets', but few if any of them even have Tribute basses, let alone US models. This is a real shame because I love the ideas and the execution involved. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  5. Very pleased to hear it's sorted. I have a dim sense that one day these will actually become pretty sought-after. The only time I really use the EQ is as a notch filter - rest of the time it's just flat because the thing is so well voiced. The 'Enhance' knob is pretty much always at minimum on mine, and the compressor goes largely unused because the valves give such a sweet natural compression if you push them anyway. Finally, to echo Bill's point, I've bought things on BC described as 'mint' that patently were not, and it is (very occasionally) a problem. Didn't we used to have a feedback mechanism for this?
  6. I've owned a WT300 (one of the original heads) and a 210XLT for the best part of a decade. Occasionally I think of changing, but nothing gets close to the preamp or the voicing on it for me. The eq is very powerful, but the thing is so well voiced in the first place that I hardly ever use it, unless I need to deal with a room or bass issue. Agree that it's not a particularly 'valvy' sound, but as with many valve preamps it will give a very sweet compression if pushed, rather than distortion.
  7. Indeed - the only tweak I had to make was taking the washers off the tone pot. It's not ideal, but at least allows for reversion if needed. Not confident you can do the same if you decide on an active tone system like the BTS because the pots look deeper.
  8. Blimey. Had I not just pulled the trigger on a different ACG 5, I'd be all over this. Incidentally, I believe this is 0239. Full spec here from Alan's site: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0239-krell-5/
  9. I have EMG JAs (the regular ones) in my Jazz. Much as I like them, I'm contemplating a set of JVXs for more growl. But can I just drop the JVXs into the routs and plug them in to the existing EMG pots and loom? Or do they need their own for impedance/whatever reasons? TIA.
  10. +2. I remember playing one of the later versions (with the bridge pup) in Music Ground in the late eighties. The neck was fantastic. They were asking £300 for it...😪
  11. Prospective Thunder 1A buyers should also note that the active circuit is controlled by a single pot - one way for more treble, the other for more bass. It actually works quite well in practice.

  13. I've never played a bad one. There was a time in the mid eighties when the Thunder 1A was the go-to bass for those of us with a certain budget. And they built an unlined fretless which was the ultimate pose machine. I picked up a Spectrum DX (the twin pup one) a few years ago for 80 quid and then gave it away with a couple of things to lucky BC'ers. Not sure I should have let it go - it was like a poor man's Zon Legacy. They are a strong candidate for investment, as good ones are still available pretty cheap, while their cachet is increasing.
  14. I'm not 100% that MK double thumbed, at least in his heyday. That triplet speed is more left hand patting. Could be wrong though... Personally I learned to play with a pick, but haven't used one for at least 20 years. I was lucky enough about 18 months in to learn fingerstyle with three fingers instead of two, which means that 16ths or even 32nds are not that challenging; whereas I suspect the issue with a pick for me at least would be consistency.
  15. Superb basses; I owned a fretless and a fretted ten years ago. If you're a low action freak, you will not find better.
  16. As the buyer of BassBod's WT300 (well...I think I am anyway), it's still sitting here as I type this and I've had no inclination to buy another head. Well worth getting them sorted IMHO, because they are such nice amps, and I've never had a problem with this one.
  17. the bridge isn’t adjustable. Sorry, can you explain this for the unitiated. I'm genuinely interested in the bass... Thanks
