1. I think I've owned two of the Sonuses (Sonii?) on here. Definitely owned the striped maple top that Warwick had too (bought it from a BC'er from Essex, sold it about two years later to a BC'er from...can't remember). And I think the black (actually kind of see though) fretless that Skinner posted used to be mine too (although I thought it had fret lines). Miss them both very much. Alongside a 5 string Sadowsky, that was my ideal combination of basses.
2. It took me about two years to nail Rhythm Stick, and Sir Duke (or the horn break at least). This was way back before all the tablature was on the net, or people had phrase trainers, etc. There's a big difference between being able to play something on my own, as opposed to doing it on stage though. The thing I just can't figure out is all that double thumbing stuff...
3. I've owned four 70s Jazzes over the past fifteen years or so. Two of them were lovely. Two of them were not. If I had my time again, I would simply have settled down with an Am Standard or a Sadowsky Metro. They're just better basses - beefier bridge with through body stringing option, graphite rods in the neck, far better build and alignment, etc. But if you do want to look around, I'd pay attention to: 1. Weight. As mentioned above, this can be a serious issue with late seventies basses. 2. Neck and truss rod. Straight? Rod fully functional? 3. Pups. Check they're authentic. A '72 I once owned went in for a set up with its original pups, and came out without them... 4. Neck/body joint fit.Look for shims and cracks, etc.
4. Immense kudos to the Bass Player Mag guy in that video for using not only "Peaches" but the theme tune from Barney Miller to do the dem. Needed saying.GLWTS.
5. PM'd.
6. Beta - I've seen those before. Who makes them please? Ta.
7. Actually, no it doesn't. I've just had a noodle and I'm not quite ready to give up bass playing yet... Sorry.
8. OK Phil. I should be in all day on Sunday if that's any good. I've sold all the basses that were worthy of this rig so it's now just sitting there..
9. I'll check tonight Phil and update you....
10. Now on hold for rumour6, pending the usual...
11. Mint condition WT300, with a beautiful semi-flight case of its own and spare preamp valve. Famous valve preamp section which is so well voiced I've hardly ever needed to change it from flat. 300 watt sold state power section. Manufactured in Montrose MN, USA in March 2000. Slightly less-than-mint 210XLT. Other than a bit of denting to the Eden logo, it's vgc and sounds excellent. Slightly obviously this is a 2 x 10" cab with an adjustable tweeter. I bought the head about six years ago from fellow BC'er BassBod (who had the case made), and the cab secondhand from the Bass Gallery in Camden. At the time I was bowled over by the night and day difference between this rig and its Gallien Krueger predecessor. This is a superb rehearsal/small gig setup for anyone looking to get into high end amplification for a very reasonable price. Speaking of which, I'll sell the head for £300 and the cab for £250, or together for £500. Buyer will have to collect please - I'm in Kingston in Surrey/SW London. You're very welcome to come and have a listen and a cuppa. 12. Near mint, sunburst, with choice of either tort or white flake pickguards. It looks fabulous with either . It's a very late model of the original series, with the extra string tree on the E and B strings, through-body stringing, graphite reinforced neck, and three band actives. The fitted p/ups are Nordstrands (which I prefer for their extra punch), but the original Fender p/ups are included in the sale. The strings run as near as dammit exactly through the centre of the polepieces. Also included are the original hardshell case and casecandy, allen key, tags, etc. I've owned a few Jazz 5s (eg Sadowsky Metros) and this is the one I want to part with least, but I hardly play anymore and I'm selling everything off. I acquired this bass in a deal with a fellow BC'er about three years ago. It's never been gigged or even taken out of the house - just used for noodling. I would prefer buyer to collect. I'm in Kingston, Surrey, but can also meet in central London if necessary. Summary: near mint, excellent example, with OHSC and choice of guards and pickups. This is priced to sell and that price is firm. Photos (of varying quality I'm afraid) here: http://s1069.photobu...html?sort=3&o=1 http://s1069.photobu...html?sort=3&o=0 http://s1069.photobu...html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1069.photobu...html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1069.photobu...html?sort=3&o=6 Thanks for looking.
13. Great to do business with - and it helped that he lived around the corner. To avoid Ted having to make another journey, for the first time, I trusted someone enough to take my bass and do the bank transfer when he got home. This was a bit iffy, and I had some slight heebies about it after he'd left. Needless to say he made the transfer within an hour or two. Which was nice.
14. Thanks - that's very gracious of you (and I don't mean that facetiously...). One thing's for sure - there are probably quite a lot of people labouring under the misapprehension that they own an 'SB Elite II'... Still great basses though!
15. Sorry Noel - are you accusing me of deliberately misleading people? This bass was sold to me as an SB Elite II. The other listings I set out (which you ignore) describe absolutely identical basses as SB Elite IIs. One goes so far as to say it's a 1984. The other, which remains for sale, has gone uncommented upon by you. What's your game here? You could have PM'd me. If I have misled, then I apologise, but it certainly wasn't deliberate. I'll amend my post accordingly, but please watch the attitude when it's not deserved.
16. NOW SOLD to Ted, and a very nice chap to deal with he was too. Apologies to all - I replied to all the PMs from my iPhone and something seems to have gone awry as lots didn't get them...
17.
It's neither an SB Elite II nor a Matsumoku product. It's an SB-ELT, first models of which date to '88. If you're lucky the code sticker may still be there - between/below the 1st and 4th tuners.
According to Clarky's ad from 2010, this is an SB Elite II: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/114092-1984-matsumoku-aria-pro-ii-sb-elite-ii-now-sold-please-delete/ This bass, currently on sale elsewhere on BC, is also advertised as an SB Elite II: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/210703-aria-pro-2-sb-elite-2-paduak-red/ Apart from the colour of Clarky's, and the mod to the second example, both are identical to mine, down to the pots and the headstock lettering. Presumably these are both SB-ELTs as well?
18. Yes, and sent another one just now. You're first in the queue Ted...
