1.
What does GAS mean? Yeah, I bought another precision down the road last night at 10pm
I think you just answered your own question. Welcome to Basschat!
2. I have the guitar version of this, which is not for sale anyway, but just to say it's so good, and really easy for editing on the hoof! I assume the bass version to be equally so. GLWTS. :-)
3. A 'HUP!' for the price INCLUDES POSTAGE!! (Mainland only, but open to discussion..)
4. Somebody was after one in Items Wanted in the last few days.
5. I got a TE AH250SMX new in the early 90s, and it's still very much alive! Last year I just wanted more headroom for one band in particular, and after much thought, discussion and agonising I took the plunge with a GK Fusion 550 from Bassgear. Fantastic amp with all the edginess you could want but the versatility to dial it out if you wish. The SMX is now my 'home practice ' setup, except when I feel guilty and gig it as happily as before. Pondering a GK MB series as a compact practice /backup head..
6.
Pm'd
And replied!
7.
Thanks for that. Looks grand. Can you point me to any recordings online where I can hear it too?
Cheers! Click on the Myspace link in my sig, and The Gift and When It's All Over are on that bass. Crumbs.. recorded over 8 years ago! Rather like this one as well, although glad to report I've had a haircut since! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3AfKFkErR4
8. I need to (ahem) clear some space, so up for grabs first off is a Cruiser by Crafter Jazz type, which I defretted myself. Slots filled with epoxy and rosewood dust. Plays nicely, in fact I've been keeping this one at work for breaktime noodling. Condition is used but good. Currently strung with roundwounds. I'm in West Yorkshire, but can also ship. I have another of these, still with frets for now, with upgrade Japanese made pickups (the originals do the job nicely, but the bass really does justify the upgrade) and series - parallel switching. If you fancy, I can arrange such things for an extra charge. Let's talk!
9. Sadly, low tension does tend to lead to easier rattle; you can possibly educate yourself to play more lightly. Another (IMHO better) possibility is to stay with normal tension and have the bass set up better. I sometimes get to play with Gary Boyle, who's a stupendous guitarist but uses 14 gauge strings on an electric! No rattle, and a feather light setup - you can't get a credit card under his strings. A good setup is a wondrous thing!
10.
Or some sleeves
Sleeves are de rigeur, dear boy!
11. One band I play in occasionally gets too too loud, and a couple of times now I've been faced with a) turn up further and compete, thereby making the noise even worse, or b)turn the bass completely off and mime for the audience's sake. B wins each time, as it also removes a bit of sound pressure, but it's usually about 3 songs before the buggers notice! Maybe next time it happens, I'll be armed with an orange.
12. <<group hug, guys>> :-)
13.
Thanks Hubrad. I see you are in West Yorkshire, I live in Wakefield. Can you recommend anyone I could take it to? I know a couple but I haven't used them in a while. Cheers!
I've just spoken to an excellent fellow in Bradford, and will PM you his number. He also said the first choice would actually be the string(!) Slacken off the E string and look for signs of a kink in the place where there's a buzz. Sounds a bit extreme, but he showed me this once on a guitar in the shop and he was bloomin' right!
14. Hid the boxes so as not to trip over them, half forgot about them, now dropped the price a bit!
15. If it's a defret, it could be a slightly proud fill-in; otherwise you do find a fretless board can wear if you repeatedly hit certain notes, kinda fretless fret-wear. Put a steel rule or straight-edge over that position and put a bright light behind, so if there's even a slight depression in the board you'll see it. Until I learned to do my own, I'd have mine skimmed every year or two as certain notes would always develop a buzz.
16. Bump and PRICE DROP TO £80.. BAHGINNN! Looking at something nice..
17.
pity they didn't fix them in very well. Hope my glue repair job lasts till next gig....
Gorilla Glue! I've just used it for the first time.. verrry sticky!
18. I have Creative Wave Studio for editing in WAV, and freac for conversion to mp3 or other formats. Both free IIRC and dead easy to use - I was just doing some when I read your thread!
19.
It's a thought. I've only ever had one headless, but the strange shaped body felt odd to me and not "captured" under my arm. I guess its all a matter of what you get used to? I know Westones are "2 a penny", but cutting the head off an 80s bass feels wrong to me.
It can work nicely.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/44673-ibanez-roadster-megacustom/page__hl__megacustom but I'd be more inclined just to put fresh tuners on it.
20.
Thanks. I'm wondering if these cabs all use 4 ohm drivers. Having a daft idea that I could rewire it to 2 ohms and then put that in series with my existing 4 ohm load.More thinking required (and probably a bit of commonsense).
Assuming it's the same setup as the BC212, it's a pair of Chinese Eminence '16 ohms' speakers to make the '8 Ohms' cab. I changed my BC212 to USA speakers, which I prefer, but at this price someone has to grab this bargainsome cab! if I wasn't halfway through a self-build 210 I'd be on it myself.
21. Playing now.. very nice! Fretless is the way, and you handle it well. Original composition Turkish folk-rock kinda thing?
22. 'Owdo? ;-)
