  1. You'd have to add in the deal a decent solar power array thingy with all the bits and bobs req'd, then assuming it's a nice tropical desert island it'd be sorted for power pretty much indefinitely. 😁
  2. My bass Vl would sound good through that, with the pukka Fender reverb an' all.. 😁
  3. Certainly be v. interesting to hear some of the sounds it makes 👍
  4. Virtually a carbon copy of what the other guys have said, I started up again, mid 40s after a very long absence from any sort of involvement in music, by age 48 I was doing loads of stuff with a succession of bands. I many ways you're the perfect age to jump back in again.. As advised above just suss out what kind of thing you want to do, and then onward to devise your master plan ! 👍
  5. You're only 45 ... Wtf.. Of course you can join a band 😁
  6. I do take the point that folk have bad backs etc of course. I've also had my back (and various other parts) walloped, bashed and abused over the years, but tbh haven't found it makes any difference going from one bass to another for the sake of a pound or two in weight..... (Ps I'm also a old geezer 😁)
  7. I'd have to confess that I do care what an instrument looks like, I tend to prefer the classic designs, something that looks like it's from the 50s or 60s (or 70s at a push) ! 😁 I'm not a fan of a lot of "modern and weird for the sake of it" looking basses, or the hippy sandwich / coffee table type things. I'm quite happy with battered relic looking stuff ( you don't have to worry about bashing it etc) Obviously the bottom line is it's got to work as its supposed to and feel right (to me) I'm not bothered at all how much a bass weighs, which seems to loom large as an issue for many folk it seems. I often wonder if the whole weight thing is just a bass player obsession or do guitarists do the same ?
  8. The tuner units look to be very nicely engineered, I'm assuming they're basically an aluminium alloy in general, though the "claws" would need to be pretty robust, look like brass here.. This seems to be the bit that fails on headless units. 0
  9. Yep, not my circus, not my monkeys... I woz only following orders 😂
  10. When I was using the Rick in someone's metal malarkey it was somewhat wasted, as I was strictly warned off doing anything but featureless root note "plod"
  11. Damn, why didn't you list this before I bought one new! 😬 That's an absolute bargain....
  12. I'll have the d'addarios please, I'll pm you 👍
  13. On the other hand a visually interesting bass could usefully shift attention away from the fizzog..... 👍
  14. I'd say no, apart from the "look" of course.. Which I accept can be very important in some cases
  15. I had a couple of the Ali neck Kramers at one point long ago, again these were aluminium but with a couple of cosmetic wood insert strips on the back, I wasn't particularly aware of any special tonal qualities as a result of the metal neck, they were "just another bass" really.. One perhaps was quite "zingy" but had new rotosounds on it when I got it so more likely those.
  16. For reference again, I just got a PayPal msg to say the Thomann refund has been paid in.. The confo email from Thomann to say they'd received it back was on 19th and today is the 24th ( to give a time scale) .. hopefully this info might be helpful to others awaiting similar.
  17. If you want to change a land rover gearbox, or a bit of oxy-acetylene welding.. Ask away
  18. Hands that do Dishes can feel soft as your Face..., Fairy Liquid Jingle
  19. Meath is a place in Ireland.. hence my gag that I don't know Meath but have relatives in Leitrim (which is also in Ireland) See what I mean? 👍
  20. Ah, t'be sure now I've no knowledge of County Meath... I've got a load of rellys in Co. Leitrim though... ☘️
  21. I reckon "metal specific bass" is sales malarkey.. In no particular order.. Amp, Fx, Tuning, and "how you play it" would all be more relevant I'd say. On the odd occasions when I've been recruited into doing metal-y type stuff ( purely as a hireling ) I've used a. a Rickenbacker 4001.. and b. a Hohner Jack headless, in the case of the latter tuned down to a kind of drop C. Both of those functioned perfectly adequately for the purpose.
  22. If that's a picture of you mate then your scariness is now legendary.. 😂
