Coincidentally I've used exactly that tuning in some industrial metally thing years ago. I just tuned a headless 4string bass with "normal" strings down to this, and it was fine, as far as I was concerned anyway. I'd just add it wasn't named as above, in fact wasn't given a name at all to my knowledge, I just clumsily described it as "like drop D but all down with the lowest note as C"

Have a go at starting one, what's to lose ? At least if it's "your" thing you can steer it in the direction you want, and choose who you play with.

I believe they do a Servisol version with an added lube to address the issue mentioned above, that said the regular stuff has worked for me fine. The Deoxit I've certainly heard of, and has a good rep too so take your pick really.

Suppose it depends what your 'background' is, ( and the kind of music you do) I started off in punk, then post punk, using a pick.... only occasionally using fingers for the odd thing here and there, so can do much more with a pick than without. Horses for courses I guess...

I really wouldn't use WD40 ! Servisol switch cleaner is good stuff with a good reputation, I've used that whenever I've needed to sort pots etc out.. Worked well on an old Lucas indicator switch in the motor too !

We tried a similar kind of thing, guitar fx pedals with a simple single manual harpsichord many years ago, which was quite interesting, we went on to mess about with the "prepared piano" thing with it too, putting various things in, on and around the strings..

I bet the bloke in the shop was working out his weeks notice !

I don't do guitar as such, but handy to have around in case I want to suss out something or whatever.. I've got a set neck Epiphone les paul studio thing that I picked up ages ago for about 80 quid or something.. its very well put together considering....the Epiphone guitars of all kinds seem pretty good to me, and can be had for not a lot of cash, wouldn't think you could go far wrong with anything by them.

That Dubspot channel with the docs is great, subscibed to that one, v good find ! Takes me back seeing all that Ampex tape, and a Roland space echo.. I knew someone who actually had one of those, we had to make do with a WEM copycat tho.

Tbh I've generally flogged stuff on ebay, tho I only sell my redundant items occasionally... even after they changed away from paypal it seems to work ok, did for me anyway.

I've had a few bits of Behringer gear over the years, inc. small mixers etc, and found all their stuff excellent..

I've just used those cheap elastic type capos with the plastic 'bar' that goes across the strings, they seem pretty tight so hold bass strings down fine, certainly when I've done it.

I've played a few wind instruments as a "yoof" so have used basic notation with that, long long ago..never attempted it with a bass or any stringed instrument tho. My messing with keyboards is again purely by ear, including those 'string orchestra' things i do sometimes. I had a lovely full score with all the individual parts for a Haydn piece for orchestra, this was an original 18th or 19th century printed manuscript, long lost now unfortunately, was just a nice set to have.

Gawd it uses the "dots" ! As a mindless thug i always just work things out by ear. tab wouldn't be much help either, as the uke, (one of the larger size ones) I've tuned like a banjo so it's dead easy to suss out innumerable tunes

With body screw holes in the neck I've used the ends of artist type paint brush handles cut off and glued in, these have a slight taper and can be banged in, seems to fill the holes very well, provided you use decent glue poured in the hole, titebond or something, and of course sand any paint residue off the handles
