1. Now no longer for sale. Peter
2.
"this must be a USA" post
My initial thoughts too. It's not just you Peter
3. Surprised there's no comments for a very stunning bass? Great Pre by all accounts too. If it'd been a knackered old Fender P the thread would be into page 10! Bump
4. Hi I'm the guy that 'created' this bass and it's good to hear affirmations as to the great tone this bass delivers. I was worried it was only me. Great looking too with a very playable neck. Bump
5. Relisted with a lower reserve (£450) and a BIN reduced by £100 and still with Brooklyn Gear strap and Trussrod tool. Peter
6. I've had this bass on eBay for a while now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220285541158 I expect many of you are already aware Peter
7. Bump before I eBay this wonderful bass. Lost opportunities? Offers considered. Peter
8. Well not quite a gig but... I got together with 3 guys last night, lead, rhythm and a drummer and we done good. 1st time I've played with anyone else in over 10 years They were pleased and it looks like a regular thing. Aiming for some local pub gigs around Penrith in the Spring Well chuffed, major hurdle overcome really.
9. Overwater is my guess (progress)
10. I feel that for several reasons this bass warrants the title of being just that little bit 'special'. Why? Well it's a 97 model with a Lane Poor Pup, that happens to have the Modulus logo on it too. The headstock also has the 'Flea' silly toothy grin logo. Not all Flea basses have these attributes! The finish is just superb and to say it's professionally applied would be a massive understatement. The (filed) BadassII replaced the original Gotoh bridge and although I can't comment it apparently made a significant improvement. Marcus may like to say how much. The ACG filter bass preamp is not only a great addition to any bass, it really makes this particular bass sing! A top quality and very useable addition. The condition is pretty much exceptional too with no dings etc. I really don't want to eBay this and I know that times are hard but I aint giving it away. If you want to make an offer the worse that can happen is that I say 'you're avin a laugh' EBay may be the answer as I've no doubt as to the desireability of this crackin' bass. Next up will be a new Fender Aerodyne non export in Oly white with hardcase Peter
11. Hehe, your comment wasn't taken as sarky Ben.
12.
I take it you’re going to be a mature student?
It depends what you mean by 'mature' Ben? I'm 54 if that helps So I guess I have to try to be mature.
13.
What's up... not enough Modulus Flea basses up for sale at the moment
So it would seem Nice Avatar John.
14. A gentle bump for this the 'Real Deal' of Fleabasses.
15. Yes my TRB5P is quiet too except for the treble issue. When the battery goes noisy is often the 1st symptom.
16. I disagree with some of the stuff on here in that Yes aren't to me overly complicated, you just need to give the music time to make complete sense of it. I've finally started enjoying Capt. Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica) but it took a lot of listening to get there - well worth it though. As for:
The lyrics were always daft and /or pretentious and delivered with such full on "sincerity" that despite Jon's attempts to justify them as "sound pictures" etc we all still sniggered behind our hands .. His voice didn't help, a problem he shares with Geddy IMHO ..
The lyrics are superb. They really make the best use of Anderson's incredible voice. Making 'sense' outta them is kinda fun too. I still have the 1st 4 albums and reckon they lost it a bit (not all) after CTTE.
17. This Flea is obviously the Ultimate - fridge magnet I'm starting Uni in a week and realising that owning 19 basses (OCD??) and struggling to put petrol in the car/food in myself is plain stupid. So why sell the Modulus? Because I think it's a highly desirable bass that'll sell and make a significant difference to my funds. I bought this beautifully finished bass (don't do sparkle) from Marcus and to quote the fine fella himself:
Modulus Flea Bass 1997 (Very Early made in the first batch) Lane Poor Pickup (The Uba Rare one with the Modulus Logo) Headstock has the "Flea Grin" Logo Body is very interestingly laminate Top ! One Piece Swamp Ash with Alder Top Refinished by Dave Wilson in THE most sexy sunburst you've ever seen.... The Back is the highest Gloss Black you've ever seen Dave Finishes instruments for Stephan Sobell (makes £15k accoustics) I spent a day with Dave as he finished this instrument and every detail is perfection The Respray alone cost £350 ! New Badass II Bridge Custom Made Clear Scratch Plate completes the look Comes with Gator Hard Case
I'm a huge fan of Alan's ACG Pre-amp and have fitted a ACG02 to the Modulus with stunning results. Anyone interested is welcome to come round, have a cuppa and try it. I'm looking for £1000 and obviously no trades as that defeats the whole point I'd rather not send by courier but will if I have to. Willing to travel down the M6 a ways etc. Hopefully the photobucket folder will, as if by magic, appear here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v111/Wra...Modulus%20Flea/ Peter
18. What a wonderful opportunity, the creation of a Darkstar Dearmond Starfire! Sadly impending Uni means that I've presently got 7 basses put aside for selling at the moment so buying another AND investing in upgrading it would be complete and utter madness (why oh why is my mind straying to the possibility of trades - doh). Mind you the fact that one of these hasn't been grabbed yet is also complete madness
19. An hour and a half, what were you doing? Alan even has the Jack socket supplied and soldering into the circuit! I think there's lots of bits and pieces about Alan's filter based pre amp around but I'm not sure if there is a dedicated thread. Maybe placing a 'sticky' on this thread would be a good idea? Moderators? If you haven't already you'll soon find the 'blending' intuitive. I'd go so far to say that it actually makes more sense to me now than a 3 EQ ever did. Set up the low pass filter to get the tone where you want it, add the resonance as required to get the 'bite' then dial in the treble you need. Much more 'organic' and creative than adding or subtracting a bit of this and a bit of that. I have 4 basses equipped with the ACG pre's, an 01 in my Harlot and 02's in my Warmoth Darkstar, Jazzbastard and Modulus Flea. The pre-amp complements them all and doesn't take away from the instruments essential charactor. The 01 of course has the benefit of two low pass filters, one for each pickup and a blend too which gives the wonderful option of setting up the pickups individually and then dialling in a blend of the two to get the desired result. This is a really useful onboard pre-amp not just an on the fly adjustment to tinker with the amp tone. I've not tried the passive tone control option that Alan also offers with the 02, not enough holes! If anyone's not tried one of these and is passing Kendal they're welcome to. A revelation! Alan, as we all know is an absolute Gent, albeit a Scottish one Peter
20.
WTF are the Pink Spiders?
They're like the pink elephants only a lot smaller! Peter
21.
Reading what you've said and paraphrasing it in the meanest way for effect yields "I've got the knowledge but you don't, so your only option is to learn the hard way." I think not. I'm of the opinion that if I can help and it doesn't put me unreasonably and involuntarily out of my way then I'll help. It takes a few minutes of an evening to bash out a counterfeit report on eBay, message a seller telling them of the error in their ways or to warn a seller after the auction ends that they may well have purchased a lemon. Turning a blind eye and scoffing is not the way forward. If I can try to stop someone getting ripped off and some oh-so-clever miscreant making a killing at someone else's expense then I will. I have less sympathy for people who do not research what they are selling and end up getting less than the item might be worth. Caveat venditor!
I'd go with that. Peter
22. Any Commando owner is fine by me Last I knew my 74 MkIIA Interstate was still running but sadly no longer owned by it's original owner. Peter
23. Yep Kev that neck makes it for me. Not a great fan of SR5's normally. Really nice now. Peter
24. The bike rack is a Minoura double rack very handy if like me you have no garage. The Warmoth was originally a P bass that I ordered and 'assembled'. Alan (ACG) kindly routed it for me so I could pop in the Darkstar that came from OBBM's Duck Dunn, in which he fitted a P! It sounds completely 'old school' and is great for that tone. In fact it sounds completely Dark Star! Peter
25. In 1980 I had a Christmas holiday job in the Royal Mail sorting office in Colchester. We had a special procedure for all parcels from Northern Ireland, we'd stand about 15 feet from the relevant mail bag and chuck it in! If it was a bomb it exploded. That was the theory, thankfully unproven Peter
