1. Wow. Just logged in for the first time since the site has been changed. Looking really good.
2. For the envelope filter (auto wah sort of thing), I use a Q-Tron pedal (the big one, not the micro). It sounds great with both guitar and bass.
3. Hi there from Louth!
4. I'm a christian too. I play at Louth Christian Fellowship (Lincolnshire). I've been playing bass in one church or another (due to moving around for uni, jobs etc!) since 1994. We play a fair mix of stuff. In particular, Desperation Band, Hillsong, Abundant Life, RPM, Audacious, Israel Houghton... Church is the place that really encouraged me to keep developing my bass playing and pushes me to keep learning new things. We aim to learn 2 new song each band practice so lots to keep me busy.
5. After doing a bit more research I found out that the DI boxes support phantom power anyway (just doesn't say it anywhere on the casing). But if anyone can explain why it doesn't take a standard 9v power that would be great.
6. I've just acquired 2 x Peavey EDB-1 Active DI boxes for free. They take a 9V battery or a mains adaptor, which I don't have. What's confusing me is that the required adaptor is 16.5v (1 amp) centre positive. How come it doesn't use a 9v mains if it takes a 9v battery? Seeing as how we go through batteries like there's no tomorrow as we have lots of wireless mics, I am really keen to avoid getting anything else that needs them. Firstly, is it possible to easily convert it to use phantom power? If this is not an easy option, I was wondering about simply disconnecting the battery clip and replacing it with a case mounted 9v centre negative socket. That way our guitarists could use them with their multi power supplies, like my 1-spot. Any ideas or suggestions?
7.
One of our guitarists often tells the tale of his old band whose bassist mistakenly borrowed a bass tuned to drop-D and only passed comment after playing the entire gig that he thought it sounded 'a bit odd'
Similar thing happened to me. I borrowed a bass last minute and it was drop-D. I suck at tuning by ear and no one had a tuner. It was for one song and I remember trying desperately to figure out how to transpose the song as I went along, I'd not been playing for that long. The song sounded crap! Edit: Funny thing was, I met another bass player a few years later, got chatting and it turned out to be his bass I borrowed. He remembered it

9. The Behringer desks sound okay, but I don't think they last that long. We are on our second Behringer mixer and the built in FX unit have broken. I also think that one of the main outs is playing up. It does get a lot of use through, set up and packed down 2/3 times a week - put in a flight case in the back of a transit van with the rest of the PA. It's lasted us about 2 years. When this one dies, I'll be looking to upgrade to an Allen and Heath mixer. I would also recommend a small soundcraft desk, or maybe a Mackie.
10. Having just bought a new pair of PA speakers for our church, I would definitely recommend a pair of Hill M1's. Not that well heard of, but manufactured by a company called Rock Tech based in York. http://www.rock-tech.co.uk/web-pages/produ...axial-enclosure They're not cheap though! (About £1400 each) We have ordered a pair of these, and will be looking to get a sub later. They are active, so don't need a separate amp. Our old PA speakers are a pair of Studiospares Fortissimo 15" run off a Tapco Juice amp and the M1's blow them out of the water. DI'ing my bass through an MXR DI always sounded poor through the Studiospares speakers, but the Hill speakers handle the low end really well.
11. I'll hold out until some buy one and gets bored of it and puts it in the 'for sale' section!
12. Our drummer uses one of these for his headphone mix - http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~B...Mon~ID~4956.asp. Cheap and works OK, even if it does say behringer on it. Having said that I really like the look of Silent Fly's headphone amp on his website. Maybe he could make a DI and headphone amp in one box. Now that would be sweet!
13. So can anyone confirm that this is just a classic vibe p with a different paint job like the james johnston jazz which cost a load more that the CV jazz because it was blue.
14.
MXR M-80. Cheaper, but with a seperately switchable distortion channel and a 3 band EQ which actually gives you control over your mids, unlike the Sansamp. Not as cheap as the Behringer though, so if you like the stock Sansamp sound, but don't want the price tag, go for that.
+1. Got one off here and am really pleased with the tone. Lots of control.

Hey man, What a great looking website and now I've got myself some gas for that headphone amp! they are some really nice looking effects.
16. Is this still available???? If it is I'll take it.
17.
Shame this thread started after i put my Wizards back in other wise i would have let the OP borrow them for a while. They wont be coming back out now
Bummer. That would have been nice how hot is the output from the pickups?
18. I've got a klystron head and after trying the MAG, it came down to one thing tone, tone, tone. I loved the sound of the ABM head and the MAG head left me feeling underwhelmed.
19. I'm thinking of upgrading the pickups on my Squire Classic Vibe 60's Jazz. I don't want active pickups, so was looking at a pair of SD Quarter Pounders or Wizards. I play mainly in a church band and the style of songs vary quite a lot. I'd a bit more oomph for heavy rock type songs, but still need to be able to dial in a nice round mellow tone when needed. I was also looking at installing an S-1 type switch to give a more precision style tone when needed. Versatility is the key! Any ideas?
20. Pm'd re bluesbreaker
21. I have an active and a passive bass. I never play the active bass - this is partly because I hate having to worry about the batteries and partly because I love the sound of my jazz bass so much more. Either way, I don't see the need of a separate pre-amp on a passive bass, unless you don't like the way it sounds.
22. A couple of questions about the red box DI... 1) Is it passive? 2) Is it nice and clean without the speaker simulation on?
