1. This would be my entry if it didn't contravene just about all the rules!
2. Lawks! Two very different winning offerings... Didn't think many would take to my rather odd, Trump-based noodling but thanks to all who voted - shame there's not more who do that thing! And congrats to Mr. Fingers - excellent song.
3. Funnily enough I've just joined my first metal band, and not only are they happy with my Wal, but they don't mind me playing funk and even disco bass lines!
4. A mate of mine from Frome managed to get in!
5. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:239255] Wal it Yammy FX7700 used as pre-amp and tuner, into ch.1 of DBX compressor, into 1990 Marshall Jubilee amp. FX loop goes into Bass Whammy, Darkglass tube distortion, 3 Leaf envelope follower and back into ch.2 of compressor. and then amp. Amp outputs into Markbass 2x10 and Precision Devices 15" in ancient Yamaha cab. Sounds pretty big and perhaps a touch weird!
6.
same line up?
Yup! Though we did used to have another guitar player (only Chris Hasket!) - but he went back to the US (we didn't need 3, and besides, he was too good for us!), and a keyboard player (Jay Rayner!), who went on to do less musical stuff. But we've got the original other 2 geetars, me, singer and drummer.
7. The Badass Weeds have been going since 1982!
8. I see your Mama Funk, and raise you a Nasty Gal
9. I was always a huge fan of the Monochrome Set with the great Andy Warren on bass... Shame they never made it big - they're still playing small pub venues!
10.
11.
I like unusual shapes for basses. That's why I have this.
Me too- that's why I've got a Parker!
12. I like odd, but that Danelectro is odd but square at the same time. Saying that, I fancy a Warwick Spacebass!
13. I've rolled mine in as much glitter as it would stand, as well as a stain and 3 coats of varnish. And this is what happened! http://soundcloud.com/dredd-and-the-badass-weed/topsy-turvy
14. Have you optimised your PC for audio? https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207355205-Optimising-your-PC-for-Audio-on-Windows-10 Are there any USB driver problems? Or perhaps a Presonus error? (Check via device manager, USB or sound or sound video, game controllers - there'll be a yellow exclamation mark) It could also be something like an input/output sample rate mismatch... Is the BIOS/chipset etc running the latest update? Or perhaps it's power saving that's causing the problem. Make sure it's not set to go to sleep, that the USB isn't set to turn off to save power, that USB selective suspend isn't on and that processor max/min power are both set to 100%. And finally, try a new USB cable!
15. I'm in the middle of something loud and shouty, featuring a guest vocal by Donald Trump and crazed "guitar" solo in a variety of largely unrelated keys...
16.
Anyone who can get that good a tune out of those awful rubbery bass uke strings is probably miraculous!
Good player? Yes! Cool? No! They are not necessarily the same thing! This is cool: As is this:
17. Many years ago while dj-ing at Leeds Uni I was asked by a goth chap to "play some dance music, like 'Pagan Lovesong' by the Virgin Prunes." What surprised him was that I had it, and played it. He was the only one on the dancefloor... But the really weird thing is that years later, while playing in a 9 piece jazz funk band, someone requested the very same song. It's an easy bass-line!
18.
Hasn't Diana Ross already done a song for this?
And Lionel Ritchie! Looks pretty funky and perhaps a touch psychedelic...
19. Funky electronic rock for me. Or perhaps rocky electronic funk. Or maybe funky, rocky electronica.
20. When I do an entry for this excellent compo I use my 50m2 live studio, hiring musicians such as Buckethead , Rick Wakeman, Billy Cobham or the LSO when needed. We record live, using Neuman mics, onto 2 24track Studers via a 128 track SSL desk with eq by Neve and outboards by Eventide, monitoring by Bryston and TAD. And when I'm not dreaming I use bass as both bass and guitar (bass whammy), via a Focusrite 2i2 into a laptop running Ableton 9, controlled by a N ovation keyboard, monitoring on AKG phones or Adam F7 speakers.
21.
I'm a huge funk fan and a fan of P-Funk especially but I'm not sure Bootsy is cool as such. Unique, a one-off for sure but he's a bit too wacky to be cool. Of those suggested so far I'd have to give the top places to Ox, Tony Levin and Mick Karn
Cool doesn't mean uninterested, or the best, just about being effortless... Bootsy is just all The Funk - he can't even talk without being funky. Which is cool. But can you imagine Doobie-in your funk? Saying that, Lemmy was proper cool as well. And Big Tony Fisher from Trouble Funk...
22. As the official S.I. unit of cool is the Bootsy, where 1 Bootsy is the maximum achievable value,it's obvious who the coolest everything is!
23. I've got one of their coats!
24.
Absolutely, 46 tracks from me , that has just amazed me , before I started playing with this challenge I had never even used a DAW !
31 from me... I only got a DAW because it came free with a Focusrite Scarlett I'd bought to swap ideas with our France-based guitarist. Since then I've got a paid for DAW, keyboard/controller, mics, AKG headphones, decent studio monitor speaks and a rickety pair of tressles with a couple of planks to balance them all on! And rather than work on a song, I've got to collect Euros (bleedin' Brexit ), wash the car, practice fitting snow chains and hoover the house.
