  1. All a bit unnecessary. I was delighted to learn 'flat' on GK is 10 2 1 10 o'clock positions. So much easier to get where I want to be when starting from 'flat'. Likewise 2 10 2 on anything 'Fender EQ stacked'. All the gigs I have had to do with Markbass backline sure went a lot smoother for knowing 'flat' is with the filter knobs at zero and the rest noon. So if one of you gents would actually deign to cough up Ashdown 'flat' it might come in handy sometime.
  2. That's the hard part to ensure, hence my overkill rule for my amps.
  3. Always plug in the cab 1/4" first. Always disconnect the power before unplugging the cab. Nil danger unless there's a chance the lead can be yanked out midstream.
  4. It's common these days for class D amps to consist of a pair of amplifying units hooked up in bridge fashion to a single output. This leaves one of the output legs at case ground so grounding the other puts the amp into instant loop of death mode.
  5. It's more like ''can you cook''. Sure I can cook. Your'e never going to pay me to cook in your restaurant but I can follow a recipe. So in my book you can read music, you just need more time at it to be able to sight read to time.
  6. You only just lost out on disproving the old adage ''you can't please all of the people all of the time''. If you had played Apache for the finale it would have brought the house down.
  7. This thread has strayed all over the spectrum. My happy place is pub venues where the PA is vocal only with a splash of high passed kick to add defintion and everyone stays under the vocals. When I was in a rowdy jazz combo and backlined the PA it was so easy. Subwoofer and a PA cab separated by crossover. Boom. I had to highpass myself a bit higher to avoid mud from the kick. All good. What was the OP about again?
  8. There is something to this. 5x is an exaggeration but I can't put my finger on how badly. Ime I had a 300w per channel power amp which I verified the no load voltage at onset of clip as spot on for its 300w rating. Using the same cab it sounded like it was missing about 100w worth of welly compared to the 250w Trace amp.
  9. Depends on your definition of realistic and perception of what is considerable. Hence snob value is extemely hard to seperate from playing performance.
  10. It would be one helluva coincidence if it wasn't one and the same.
  11. Anyone know anything that will do clean 2.8V being fed from a regular pedal?
  12. The only ones that won't be on/off with a stomp switch will have fancy electronics and a momentary switch. I don't think you would get very far into swapping in latching switches before realising that won't work with the fancy electronics.
  13. Afaik there is a 2% duty on bass guitars. You would be up for that and VAT at the border. I don't know if they charge the VAT on their own duty after applying it, or VAT on just the import value.
  14. For that amount of bass I'd be collecting it.
  15. It's impossible to pack against every possible idiot mishandling it. Either the buyer accepts your proposed packaging and arranges his courier and insurance or he doesn't.
  16. I do that by getting the device to respond to my playing dynamics. If it doesn't respond it gets sold. In your case I might make an exception for the sublime primary tone. Then it's a case of determining if a a level boost is actually going to do the trick. Not knowing your amp I am guessing an input gain boost on the amp should be analogous to a clean boost pedal?
  17. The best you can do is ensure each pedal in use doesn't boost or cut your overall level more than appropriate for the passage. A limiter is a poor substitute for having control.
  18. I can't see any edge to indicate flaking off or feathering to indicate wearing off. Adds up to it just being stained. If it is indeed naked wood you could probably spray some satin polyurethane with a gobo to stop it going everywhere. Not a job I'd be particularly keen to tackle myself but not much in the way of humidity for me to be bothered by here.
  19. Get the buyer to insure his bass and pay for his own courier. You drop it off at the courier depot. Then if anything goes wrong you aren't involved.
  20. Preamp valves are user serviceable parts so I don't think there should be any objection to you taking a looksie. He might want to supply you a known good replacement though.
  21. Stack it up the tall way with all the drivers in a single column and be prepared for a nice surprise.
  22. Could easily be an infant mortality on the preamp tube responsible. Or it got loose in transit.
  23. I think you're probably stuck with the 'patina' you have now. Satin finish refers to the texture of the surface that is exposed to the elements. It seems you have polished a stain that got into the clear coat. Ain't nothing going to bring back satin except taking to it with super fine grit but the stain will still be there. I would leave it alone.
