  1. One time I almost convinced myself to try an Attack Goat distortion, when I have no real use for a full on distortion pedal. But how cool would it be to have an Attack Goat on standby!!!?!!!!!!?
  2. I had a 9v one going gangbusters but when I put something else on the board the two conspired to make big pops when switching. Either one taken away cured it. The CC lost.
  3. Fascist much? The better I get the less I need to twist knobs to get what what I am wanting. There is a helluva lot of tone just in the fingers fo' shizzle.
  4. Is the art of gain staging dead in the UK?
  5. Depends on the bass. I had a passive Yamaha BB that needed 9 to get solid green My Stagg active EUB sounded best when the input just flicked on the yellow and that took 7. Kala UBass passive piezo, green on 7. Go figure.
  6. The method for least system noise is to work with the biggest signal you can at each stage without overloading the next stage. Accordingly you would turn up the preamp input and various gain controls to get a pleasing sound that only gets louder when you crank on the power stage volume to the required output level.
  7. where are all the semi-decent musicians? Thanking their lucky stars to be in bands with other semi-decent musicians.
  8. Heft is the word. I have used my 250 with all manner of cabs. Some handle more low end than others.
  9. Punters being enthusiastic is out of our control. I know for an absolute fact that I am barely competent at playing my parts! One old guy told the drummer to hang onto the bassist as 'he makes the stick thing sound just like a real double bass'. Now I won't deny that is the ultimate compliment and my heart swelled with pride, but really???
  10. I wouldn't bother myself. Wrap scratches a lot easier than plastic or paint.
  11. I recommend you get something bigger that can run an extension cab. As soon as you get some chops together you'll be wanting to play with others and a 30w tiddler won't be much fun in most situations.
  12. My adjustable 24dB / octave filter moves between 50hz and 80hz depending on room and genre and rig. Sometimes the bass EQ gets a bit of a boost along with the filter shifting up. It is great having the EQ liberated from mud control.
  13. If I am not mistaken that is Behringer Veyron spelled backwards.
  14. Jeez that's brave. I don't carry spare strings. If someone broke 2 I think I'd be hiding for fear my strings were next.
  15. Yup, I must have got my eyes crossed looking at it on my phone! For the continued mystified: Placing a straight edge on the graph at 0dB& 40hz, parallel to the gist of the intial curve, hits 10hz down at -36dB = 18dB per octave. [10¹ hz to 40hz is 2 octaves]
  16. I did wonder about that having never heard of one but that's what the graph says so caveat emptor.
  17. Unless your hearing is stuffed, and even then what you hear is what you hear. Presumably you are a beginner? New around here anyway so welcome to the rabbit hole that is finding the ultimate rig to end all rigs quest. Back out now quietly while you still can or the g.a.s will get you. Still here? Be aware that the sound of a 30w practice amp is a whole different ballgame to a rock'n'roll stage amp, although in some circles they are one and the same.
  18. If it had a DI folks would complain it didn't have any overdrive to complete the straight to desk package.
  19. Only if the amp can't drive the 8 ohm version fully. That's exceeding rare and I really doubt it applies to OP's 800w amp. If you're talking about increasing the number of speakers then that's different. We weren't talking about that.
  20. It's not readily apparent whether your guitar playing is rubbish or the riff is really odd. One little passing lick in the middle is very Nirvana.
  21. Looking at it again you could say the response measured pretty flat to 40hz and call that 0dB. Below 30hz it's on about a 8dB / octave slope and the -3dB point comes in around about 28hz.
  22. The zero dB level is plotted a fair bit more than 3dB lower than it should be ie the scale needs a vertical shunt to slice through the flat part at 0dB making the fall off represent the filter.
  23. Aka burning up the 4 ohm version chasing your tail.
  24. So long as your amp can do 400 clean watts into 8 ohms it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.
