Good stuff Chris, can it have a marketplace or will that run into problems?

Oh, and the nut is extremely important in fretless setup also, get that wrong and you could kill sustain on certain parts of the neck
-
Bridge-schmidge, on a fretless it's far more about setup - especially string height - the quality and integrity of the board, the strings, and most important of all, your fingers. Don't waste your money on a new bridge, I recall Jaco using a BBOT and not having too many complaints?
Big rigs look cool, and give you extra headroom, what's not to like?
Yep, no such thing as a rig that's too big, just a venue that's too small

I though from the title that this thread was about Michael's new bass?

Lovely, nice old dark tort guard and a Lollar PUP (although a couple of trays would offset the need for a new PUP if the present one sounds to your liking) and you've got a winner there. Refin I'm not so sure about, but hey, it's your bass You must try a Yammie Precision one day as well mate
Fantastic news! Despite the initial issues it sounds like Dawsons have taken customer service very seriously which is really important these days
+1, which is often the case when these threads appear. N&S, whilst it might be a little uncomfortable, but it doesn't do any harm for bass retailers around the UK to know they're being watched! It also gives folks both the opportunity to redress any problem publicly and to gain some credibility in doing so. Everyone cocks up occasionally, it's how it's dealt with that's important, and it looks like Dawsons dealt with it well in the long run.

Hi folks, We've just moved back to rented accommodation in Canterbury, one of the key selling points of the property we rented being a large brickbuilt workshop that would make an ideal studio/boy's room (did I say 'boy's room', I meant 'office'). I was described as watertight - which I'm guessing it is as there appear to be no leaks - but having stored some boxes in there for a month or so there's no doubt that it is damp (the cardboard has started to crinkle, a have pages of books). So I now have everything out of there and in the house, and Mrs Beedster has a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp whilst having it's arse slapped. Of course the last month has been a testing for the most rugged of outhouses, so I'm not surprised, but given that the long term plan is to keep all my instruments (from mandolin to double bass) and at least some if not most of my recording gear in there, I'm potentially faced with a problem. I know nothing about building repair and maintenance I should add! Obvious solutions to me are: 1. Wait til the weather settles down and make a call before dealing with problem 2. Ventilate it more (it's not ventilated often at present) 3. Heat it (it's not heated at all at present) 4. Get in a specialist builder to spec the problem Any thoughts would be gratefully received, especially if you know your stuff about buildings. C

Beer fuelled GAS, no info re alternative basses required here, fully covered in that respect. Re c64, almost as good as the Yammie, especially in my current situation. Given any other situation, the Yammie's always going to have the advantage -

Ha ha, spot on guys, you know how is Boy meets bass Boy falls in love with bass Boy and bass live happily together Boy goes to bar, has a beer or two In walks new bass, catches boy's eye Boy flirts, bass flirts.... But nothing happens Boy wakes up with a bit of a hangover feeling slightly guilty and stupid Boy tells his bass how much he loves it and all is forgotten Boy and bass live happily ever after.... -
Fair enough, but by mentioning only the manufacturer you implicate them and not Dawsons, and you allow other members (well one in this case) to wade in and complain about the manufacturer who was pretty blameless here. Yes, I could PM you, but that doesn't help other members, and should they want to, it doesn't give Dawsons the opportunity to respond here.
Is this a full "dress-up, play the same types of instruments" tribute band we're talking about?
Yep, to a degree it is -
Seems unfair to give the retailer anonymity at the expense of Hartke.
Exactly mate, I'm really not sure why the OP felt he could name the manufacturer - who wasn't really at fault in either cause (amps do occasionally go wrong) or response (which was immediate) - whilst the retailer who both failed and lied gets away with it? Pretty poor attitude IMO.

Should add that if you folks feel strongly that I shouldn't sell the Yammie to pay for a Ric, please feel free to start a whip round To be honest, I'll probably find a way of getting/keeping both, but it will not be guilt free! -
FWIW, I play basses I like the sound, feel and look of. Which is all of them, in rotation, at my whim. I'd leave a band that had a problem with that policy.
Not a band thing, totally a me thing, I like the sound, feel and look of both basses 100%. Aesthetics? Picture Lemmy with a Steinberger, Flea with a Hofner, Jaco with a Bongo and Mark King with a Ric.....? -

so, a month in and I'm in something of a quandary with this bass. Specifically, I love it's playability and I love its sound, but I'm also playing in a band in which the aesthetic doesn't fit at all, but in which the aesthetic of what I consider to be the only real alternative to this bass in tone terms, a Ric C64, does. So, I'm hoping to be able to get a C64 into the studio in the next few weeks to A/B both that and the Yammie side by side through both my Ampeg and PJB rigs, ideally with the band (the Yammie really does the job tonally so I'd need to make sure that my recollections of the C64 are not flawed). I currently have the option of a C64 at a reasonable cash price, but if anyone out there has a C64 they might want to trade for the Yammie, please let me know. Of course, I'm tempted to buy the C64 outright and keep the Yammie, but that's a cash heavy approach. I suspect that the wisest move in the long term is to keep the Yammie and forget the Ric and aesthetics. Wisdom has however never been one of my strong points.
