  1. I also want to thank you for this brilliant review. I bought the same rig about 2 months ago, and am falling in love with it. When in the States, I used to play through a MusicMan head that also had a valve preamp section, and this often reminds me of that rig, although this one seems a lot more versatile. If I want 80's (or a good jazz sound), I'll use my Pedulla 5'er. For more modern stuff, it's a Yamaha active bass. The amp responds to both (although quite differently) beautifully. Well worth hauling the extra heft around, IMO. Well done on a very useful review!
  2. I am not a flashy bassist. I stand in awe of you folks who can do some amazing 3 octave fill. I'm just too lazy at this point to work that hard on my scales and arpeggios...:)
  3. I have a different background because I hold a music degree, started out in jazz, but like to play all kinds of music. Always loved country music as that’s what I grew up listening to, but also classic rock. I still enjoy playing jazz, latin and funk but don’t slap. I really don’t enjoy real book based jam sessions. I do like pit work, but haven’t done it for a while. Guess I’m an educated hick at heart.
  4. Great band sound, and I really like the tone you’ve getting as well…
  5. 12 gauge all day long…modified choke for upland game…full for ducks..
  6. Please let me know where in the history of this word this has actually not lead to the suffering and death of millions of people?
  7. I have always played in some sort of covers band...always good fun and often also really good music being made. I notice the jazz folks are not jumping in here. Most jazz gigs are cover gigs, and they seem to do okay. I remember once when visiting in Vermont (my wife's territory) we went to an event with live music. A emo (shoegaze?) band called "And The Mountain Cried No" was up doing the most miserable, dire original music I think I've ever heard. Not for me....:)
  8. I agree. The Arsenal equivalent is for them to have 95% possession, and lose 0-1
  9. My wife loves football, and I enjoy going to the matches when I can. We also have season tickets, but this is the last year. Too much faff getting there and back.
  10. I wonder about that. I play a 5 because I'm lazy. It's not a superior instrument. If I really want to feel like a bassist, I'll pick up a 4 because I find it a lot more challenging to do the same stuff without the advantage of the B string. Live and let live...I heard that sometime......
  11. I was just reflecting that, since using 5's exclusively, I almost never go lower than 5th fret...feels weird to play open notes...
  12. Which is why I sold my Champion's League tix Wednesday....... some folks really enjoy going to matches/games. When living in Dallas, the church services would regularly let out early to allow folks to get to the stadium during home Cowboy's games....
  13. It's just two weekends a year...:)
  14. I’ll be in the Emerites Sunday….in Red…:)
  15. It’s all about preference. I played all styles of music for decades on a four string, spent months getting used to a five. Now, it’s pretty much all I play. I really appreciate the ability to play 2 octaves across the neck.
  16. This is brilliant advice! I will consider mooting this next week
  17. I don't really care about the money so much...good thing in the current environment. I want to do some gigs and get folks up on a dance floor..that has alway been the most enjoyable thing for me.
  18. That's my view...once a rehearsal is in the book, it needs to come off. Am I being too inflexible about that? Honestly, I'm new to bands in the UK (used to the Midwestern US), but I think I need to find an existing band that already has a following and active gig diary. This startup stuff is proving to be frustrating...especially when you're not in charge. I also think it is easy to say "just quit", but I don't have anyone knocking down my door for my services, although I am a proficient player, have my own good quality PA, and good transportation..oh, and I show up to both gigs and rehearsals...:)
