  1. I get what you mean regarding sound deflection and bass traps but it would have put the price up, not to mention the man-hours required to build non-standard shaped buildings. I'm hoping proper acoustic treatment will negate the usual issues of sound reflection and bass traps.
  2. Well, the dimensions on mine is 3m x 5.4m so I'm really surprised that a few studio design companies have said that your dimensions aren't adequate. You'd be surprised what results you can get, certainly for mixing in a proper acoustically treated room. I've actually been in studios where the mixing has been done in similar sized rooms. Admittedly they had top quality monitors and the place was acoustically treated (not to mention that the engineer was really good at what he did). The main thing to get right is to eliminate the bass traps on the corners and any reflective surfaces need to be deadened with panels so as the sound doesn't bounce off. There's free software you can acquire that'll give you recommendations and you just work to that. I'd say go for it.
  3. Quite easy all things considered. Particle board over the roof joists, felt on top, fibre glass solution over the top of that then a resin hardener. Finally a top coat finish which also waterproofs it.. You do need a couple of days of clear weather though, any rain and it'll be ruined.
  4. Guttering went up today. Now, it's time for a beer I think. Next on the list of to do's: Cavity closers Brick in-fils inbetween the ceiling joists
  5. He'd just peed up the doorway and taking in the aroma! Ha! I wish! This was started in February and the weather has stopped work on occasion. As for a discount, well I'll have to brush up on my engineering skills first before I start charging anything. W = 3.5m x L = 5.4m x H = 2.5m
  6. Cheers fellas. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but just haven't had the funds or had been unwilling to invest so heavily into something like this. Then I had an epiphany and thought, well life is too short, let's go for it. You wouldn't be the first to suggest I call it that and I'm giving it some serious consideration. 😇
  7. Roof finally installed. It's a mixture of wood, felt and fibreglass.
  8. Roofing timbers put into position and tied to the internal block skin.
  9. Second lift completed to final height.
  10. Decided to opt for a cavity wall, better insulation for heat and sound. This is the first lift in progress. Standard rokwool installed in the 100mm cavities
  11. Concrete went down. What a mission! Had to get a concrete pump and route it round a neighbours garden. Took all day to do. As it was drying overnight, the local fox decided to leave a permanent reminder of his visit.
  12. The hardcore went down and was compacted. I've also decided to concrete most of the garden. No more cutting grass for me. Hurrah!!
  13. Marked out the area for the build which will include a path up to the door
  14. If anyone is interested, I've decided to build a recording studio in my back garden. I'm getting fed up with travelling over 150miles in a round trip to the wilds of Essex every time we want to record so am taking the plunge in building my own. So far over the past few weekends there's been some good progress:
  15. I've just bought a set of A7X monitors. Not had a chance to get them set up yet though. I've heard great things about them.
  16. I've got a set of Wilkinson tuners which are clover style if you're interested (plus a little cash my way).
  17. My PB20 turned up today. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but it's completely blown me away. I love the matt black paint just but everything about it - the weight, the paint job and even the sound is good - but when you consider the price it really is great. The hardware (tuners and bridge aren't the best) is adequate and is the only slight downside to this absolute bargain of a bass. I actually won this on eBay the other day so I'll be hot-rodding this with the following: Seymour Duncan SPB3 Quarter Pound Pickup (£60) New red pearl scratchplate (£11) Wilkinson tuners (£30 Gotoh bridge (£30) So effectively I'll be getting an above average awesome sounding P-bass for under £200
  18. That's interesting. I'm really after a red tortoiseshell scratchplate but want to see how red the stock one is. it looks pretty dark from photos I've seen, I'm after the lighter red coloured scratchplate.
  19. I've got one of these and have never regretted buying it. I'm a 5-string player but always find myself coming back to my DW Spector. They're great basses, the neck is superb and if you're a fan of Jazz Bass necks then this is even more ergonomic. Can't recommend these enough. GLWTS
  20. That's the setup I'm going for too. It always baffled me why Fender didn't come out with a Precision in this colour scheme. It's my ideal colour scheme for a P-bass.
  21. Holy crap, I love the look of this bass so I've just ordered one from thoman. I was looking for a precision so this will fit the bill nicely.
