1. Id say saveanother 200-300 so you can spend the 500 on the bass and the rest on a new bridge, strings and having the fingerboard properly planed.
2. What about bos if you dont mind me hijacking. I rubbhed some gin on it but it didnt make a difference.
3. I cant watch the bbc thingy but im hoping their good when i see them at oxegen.
4. Ive got a hybrid, carved spruce top, solid maple back and laminate maple sides. And it sounds outstanding. My teacher was very impressed when i turned up with after replacing my awful antoni bass. Ive had no problems with changes in temperature, as we had quite a cold winter for once, and the sun is out know and its withstanding it all great. BTW i used to live in donegal, Convoy near letterkenny.
5. If your near wexford you can try mine out if you want. I play jazz and classicla on the same bass, with the same setup.
6. Youll regret it spaz, youll regret it.
7. Bought his highway one jazz. Very good packaging, sorted everything out quickly. Thanks for an amazing bass.
8. I dont mind cabs and amps, its actual bass's. One of my first gigs we were playing with a friends band and then a band they knew. So i leant my bass to him who leant it to the other bass player who thusly broke the A string, rendering all three of us totally useless, with only one bass between us. Never again.
9. If it helps, when playion medium tempo's and im alternating between fingers i pull my hand down with the first finger and move my second finger forward, so i get a lot of power and move my finger out of the way. Of course as i get faster my hand turns more perpindicular to the strings and pluck with the tips.
10. Does this have the screw terminals or do you have to solder the pickups on.
11. Thanks for the replies. Im currently using a cheap Yita music bow which is good, but quite heavy. So if the yita carbon fibre is good ill get one. And thse http://www.thomann.de/ie/daddario_helicore01.htm
12. Hi I finally replaced my cheap chinese orange ply wood bass, with a nice hybrid hora flat back bass. And its much nicer. Just wanted to have it set up perfectly for me and was wondering somethings. What strings are good for both arco and pizz, but more arco. And light, medium, heavy, whats the realy difference their. Around 120 Would an adjustable bridge be worth the extra money, i have to get this bridge replaced anyway as someone put ebony feet on it which deadens it a bit and it needs to be re-radiused to match the fingerboard and to make bowing easier. Are they useful? Currently theirs a fishman bp-100 that doesnt really seem to suit it, its a bit raspy, Anyone want to buy it from me. I was looking at a shadow and an upton pickup. again around 120. Also my teacher says i really need to get a new bow, now im not sure how much better, but i want to get the bass fully playable first. Are these carbon bows any good, their around 100 which sounds good, or should is stick with a wooden bow ive been lookin at some Gewa's. Also last but not least, rosin. Im using petz but its very sticky and gets everywhere and has a very bright tone. something less sticky and more dark would be nice. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Sam Homfray
13. Peavey Grind is one of my favourite cheaper 5 strings, great bass and a good strong B string. Havent tried that Cort but i really like the Curbow 5 string they make and so if thats anything to go its good.
14. So far in my time of playing bass 1. Fender Jazz 24, which i sold but my favourite bass so far 2. Squeir precision bass special 3. Ibanez btb 755 sold this as i didnt like the B string but it had a great sound I cant reach 5 yet. Recieving a HW1 jazz bass soon and hoping thats a good one.
15. I had an Ibanz shipped to Ireland from england in a cardboard box and some bubble wrap, arrived perfectly.
16. Yep made in korea in the ocrt facory i think, but really really good bass's. Ill just have to win the lotto very quickly.
17. I had the 4 string version a while back, best bass i have yet owned, im still kicking myself for selling it.
18. I was wondering whether it would be possible to put 4 drop tuners on a 4 string bass, so i could chnage the tuning from EADG-ADGC. I was also wondering would strings be able to handle this, being brought up that much expecially an e string, would lighter gauge strings work better here. Also with drop tuners can go 3 ways so on the E string could i brin g it up to A and then drop it to D If i wanted to or is it only possible to go within one tuning. Thanks Sam H
19. Ive got a hora 1940 double bass flat backed. I got mine second hand but i think their around 2000 new these days, of course the new ones i cant judge on but this one is very good quality. Check em out.
20. Give me a week to work out what i want. So how does it balance, whats the sound, is it extremely hi-fi? Ive never played a headless but always wanted one.
21. yep, my fiend bought some cymbals from them, and one cracked, and without thinking of the warranty he drilled it, and then cut a wedge out. Then he remembered the warranty and thomann still took it back. Very good of them i thought, its getting replaced for free.
22. Hi, i might have found a buyer for my ibanez, so if it does go through can you post this to Ireland. If youll sell it.
23. They told me(the string emporium) $250 to britian which sounded pretty good.
24. You have to be very very carefull, with cheaper double bass's. If you spend 500 on one you may well have to spend another 300-400 more to get i9t playable, and with that money originally you could have bought a better souinding and playing instrument. Personnally to be really safe and get an instrument that you will be very happy with and will last you for many years i would be inclined to go for a bass for like 1200-2000. For a good starter instrument. Also have you thought about lessons, this is a whole different beast from electric bass.
