  1. I felt moved when Page stroked my dog.
  2. I wonder whether Foo Fighters will one day be thought of as one of the all time greats with Zeppelin, Sabbath, Queen etc. Foo Fighters have a lot of filler material but then so did all the other greats. They're certainly the biggest rock band of their generation. I think they might have lasted longer than some of them, certainly longer than Zeppelin or Queen (with Freddie)
  3. I mostly play with a pick so it's not a problem to play the chords. I found using a thinner pick is helping. I've got surprisingly close to Lemmys tone considering I play a Stingray. Two Notes le bass on the dirty channel plus Darkglass vintage microtubes plus loads of gain on the amp and eq with lots of treble and mids and no bass. All that to get close to what Lemmy gets with just a bass and amp
  4. I'm learning Ace Of Spades. It should be easier than it is. Need to loosen up the right wrist.
  5. I was at that show. It was extremely obvious that Taylor and Dave were incredibly excited to be playing with their heroes. Jimmy and JPJ seemed to enjoy it almost as much as well.
  6. They didn't ever get any less loud! Last time I saw them my ears were ringing for three days
  7. Seeing Anthrax and Motorhead in the same night was amazing, two of the greatest heavy metal bands ever. I know Lemmy said Motorhead weren't heavy metal but they really were.
  8. I saw them several years ago supporting Motorhead. Really very good live.
  9. I'm fairly sure California is just named a lot in their songs because it's four sylabals and therefore a good filler and easier to work in to a song than vegetable or polytechnic.
  10. On the bright side, it's not quite as bad as Dani California. Which reminds me, is this the first RHCP song to not mention California?
  11. I'm not really a fan of Flea, too much slap for my tastes but maybe if they'd let Flea do his thing it wouldn't be so bland. I can't imagine there's many RHCP fans who'll be excited to hear something that sounds nothing like RHCP other than the recognisable vocals.
  12. Nice Bill & Ted reference there. I think it's fairly typical of successful bands as they get old. They all made their most interesting records before they hit 30 (I'm sure someone will bring up exceptions). My favourite band is Faith No More, I love all their records but compare Sol Invictus to The Real Thing and the old record is so much more interesting. I guess as we get older our brains don't produce those crazy ideas that lead to something wild and completely original. It may also be because they know their fans are older and more sensible.
  13. Has anyone tried these? Are they adequate? https://www.gear4music.com/Books-DVD-and-Sheet-Music/Bass-Guitar-String-Set-by-Gear4music/2UM I was going to get a few sets to donate to my daughters school. The strings on their basses in the music dept are fairly disgusting.
  14. I'd like to think that as a sensible, logical engineer I would make all purchases based on the item precisely meeting a strict specification but I have got an Epiphone Thunderbird vintage pro and if I'm honest, I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't look so good. The headstock seems to be made of lead and the neck is a bit narrow for my gorilla hands but it does look good. It does sound amazing tuned down to C with a nice bit of dirt and my favourite DR DDT strings.
  15. The one negative I've heard about the EHB is that the luminous fret markers don't glow for long enough. The one person I know who has one drilled his out and fitted luminay markers. That is a very minor thing. It wouldn't stop me buying one.
