  1. I bought my daughter a Harley Benton CST-24 (PRS Custom 24 copy) and other than a bit of a dry fretboard I can't fault it. A bit of lemon oil on the fretboard and it plays lovely. Even the trem is decent and doesn't put it out of tune. For the amp I bought a Roland cube 60 which has some great built-in effects. I wouldn't say the amp models sound exactly like a real valve amp but they're good enough for practice at home. The effects are decent enough as well. The 60 is really loud, a bit excessive for home practice maybe. I'm looking for a guitar for child 2 now and possibly going Ibanez Gio and Orange Micro Terror as she likes that guitar look and the reviews for the Gio are great. The Terror amp is surprisingly decent, I've seen a band with one plugged in to a 4x12 and it sounded nasty.

  9. The putrid stench of rotting flesh - Gevurah A particularly lovely ballad
  10. Living dead girl - Rob Zombie
  11. Nightswimming - REM
  12. Is that Slough?
  13. The last thing I want is to be trapped in a loop of Ed Sheeran's very ordinary pop music. On the bright side, at least Chris Martin isn't involved.
  14. Maybe a bit of chlorine will add some flavour and moisture to the bird of disappointment. Turkey is good in a curry though
  15. They're one of those bands who whenever I hear them I think "this is awesome" and then I never get around to really exploring their rather extensive catalogue. A Forest, Burn and Just Like Heaven. Dinosaur Jr do a great cover of Just Like Heaven
  16. The Righteous & The Wicked. The whole BSSM album is superb (apart from lyrics which are utter b*****s). I've not really liked anything of theirs after BSSM. I think most Chilli Peppers fans would agree Dani California is their worst.
  17. That's a top tip. I'll be trying more of that.
  18. I love a bit of Type O Negative. A great place to start a long and dark journey to the underbelly of metal
  19. Runnin Wild - Airbourne
  20. Are they a thing?
  21. Methamphetamine blues - Mark Lanegan
  22. A quote from Mr Berlin: I simply cannot think of a single name in all of jazz where a metronome played any part in the developed sense of time. That's all the reason I need to practice with a metronome. Jazzists never play on the beat anyway. Metronome practice made a huge difference to my timing. Starting with scales then moving on to riffs with more interesting rhythm.
  23. To be fair to him he has a severe disability as a musician. Everyone knows gingers don't have souls. Disclaimer: possession of a soul may not be dependent on hair colour.
  24. A t**t with a guitar who only knows one chord progression
  25. Fender Play and Scott's Bass Lessons are OK but not much cheaper than proper one to one lessons and not as good. Online lessons tell you how to do things but don't point out your mistakes or bad technique. Timing is one of the most important skills to learn. It's really dull but playing scales to a metronome is really good practice. It doesn't matter that you can play the complete works of Jaco Pistorious if you can't keep time with the drummer while doing it.
