  1. There's a lot of very famous pro bassists who have made enormous amounts of money and made some great music playing with what some may call bad technique. Lemmy, Peter Hook, JJ Burnel and Steve Harris all had some techniques that weren't as per the textbooks. Imagine if Larry Graham had stuck with the technique that his teacher taught him rather than trying something different.
  2. Blowing Speakers - Busta Rhymes
  3. Surely if Lemmy did it then it can't be wrong.
  4. I'm exactly. Perfectly happy with a pick and will never slap. I do want to learn to play without the pick though
  5. No More heroes - Stranglers
  6. Scream bloody gore - Death
  7. If you've ever had a conversation with someone who is on cocaine you'll know they talk rubbish and have dumb ideas for things they think will be great. These groove slots must be what made Mr Escobar a billionaire.
  8. Watching that video hasn't made me want to take an angle grinder to my bass frets.
  9. You know what they say about men with big hands...... ....they need big gloves
  10. True but Lemmy used performance enhancing substances
  11. Fat old sun - Pink Floyd
  12. My bass teacher told me that muting the E string with the left thumb over the top of the fret board is poor technique. Obviously I do it all the time. Why is it bad?
  13. That would go nicely on a perfect balance guitar
  14. Heaviest matter in the universe - Gojira
  15. Going Blind - Melvins
  16. In the end - Anthrax
  17. One and only - Chesney Hawks
  18. Living dead girl- Rob Zombie
  19. Hero of War- Rise Against
  20. As I suspected, a few different techniques. I think I'll have to sit down and spend several hours with each practicing scales to see what feels right
  21. I just ordered a guitar for child no2. An Ibanez GRX120SP (catchy name). She loves her little Ibanez Micro and this has the same neck profile and only 1mm wider at the nut. I'm sure she'll like the metallic blue colour as well.
  22. I've mostly played with a pick with the odd bit of finger style now and then but I should make efforts to improve my technique. I think my biggest issue is I generally leave my thumb on the pickup or maybe rest it on the A string when picking the D or G. What's your technique?
  23. Song for the dead - Queens Of The Stone Age
  24. Dog day sunrise - Fear Factory
  25. I bought my daughter a Harley Benton CST-24 (PRS Custom 24 copy) and other than a bit of a dry fretboard I can't fault it. A bit of lemon oil on the fretboard and it plays lovely. Even the trem is decent and doesn't put it out of tune. For the amp I bought a Roland cube 60 which has some great built-in effects. I wouldn't say the amp models sound exactly like a real valve amp but they're good enough for practice at home. The effects are decent enough as well. The 60 is really loud, a bit excessive for home practice maybe. I'm looking for a guitar for child 2 now and possibly going Ibanez Gio and Orange Micro Terror as she likes that guitar look and the reviews for the Gio are great. The Terror amp is surprisingly decent, I've seen a band with one plugged in to a 4x12 and it sounded nasty.
