1. I remember that bass when it sold on eBay a while back as a fretless. I never did get all of the answers as to 'who' did the fretboard work and it was always interesting that the fingerboard is neither ebony nor wenge... which always lead me to believe that the fingerboard had been replaced at some point in its life; not the end of the world but unusual.
 2.
Hi mate, The chaps on Talkbass seem to think the same. I guess the only way to know is to try it.... Here is the TB thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=511590 So it should DEFINITELY be OK then eh? I'm scared :-0
If it were me Ped, I'd not be overly worried (easy to say as it 'isn't' me ). There are loads of stereo switching amps that don't require a load on each side, I suppose you could get someone to sort you out a dummy load for the unused out but again I'd not be worried.
 3.
Oh quick Q... I have asked the seller (who seems a cool chap) but thought I might ask here too.. When I want to use this in stereo I hook up a speaker to each output of the amp, but for mono is it OK to just plug in one speaker and nothing into the other, or do both have to be plugged into something before I power up? Cheers ped
I had a Peavey DPC (digital power convertor) power amp and you could run it with just one side hooked up with no detriment to the side with no load on it (same as the old bi-amp GK 800RB that had a 100 + 300 watt pair of outputs, it still ran perfectly OK with only a single speaker connected to any one of the outputs). You'd only have real issues with valve amps running without a load attached!
 4.
But John you look so much younger now.....smarm....crawl.....etc...

That picture would look lovely on a tee shirt. You know, the type you could wear at a social event, say in Seaton Deleval on say the 1st of March
What a bunch of shiftless chisellers!
 5.
What an absolutely spiffing idea. Me and at least one other NE Basschatter would probably pay money to watch Mr Wateroftyne play a gig on a five string Warwick, eh Mr Hunt?
Now that would have been a sight to behold.
 6. So many dealings going back so many years that I hate to think! My first foray into having a Custom bass built was by Howard... (forgive the look, it was 20 years ago )
 7. My take... He has technical mastery of his instrument and is a good musician. Is he a bass player... in as much as he plays an instrument referred to as a bass then yes. Though IMHO you have to accept that (to my mind at least) he is a guitarist who has adapted some stuff for piccolo bass, good for him and I enjoyed it. I 'doubt' he'd get a gig playing bass (at least like that) in a local pub band around here but he could play down our local Buskers and we'd all sit quaffing pints, thoroughly enjoying his mastery of the [s]guitar[/s] bass.
 8.
Looks very similar to that one but has a cloth covering rather than the metal grill. Doesn't have a logo on the front either.
Cloth covering? Can't say I've seen any of the H&K cabs with a cloth grill, all of the ranges that I've seen have had solid kick-proof grills. A pic of the actual speakers with the grill off and knowing what the connector plate has for fittings and ratings info would really help.
 9. Beedster was selling one of the BassCustom range for £100 a while back, in fact... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=kettner ... and previously here @ £125 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=kettner H&K do a range of cabs and I'd pay £100 for a H&K 4x10 'IF' it was the same as this cab, were it not the same as this I personally would pass though it may well suit someone else's needs. Slap a pic up and let's see.
 10.
Sounds like the neck is too curved. Most jazz basses seem to work best with just a touch of relief towards the tuning end. The neck profile can also change if you've changed the string guages at all. Always surprises me how much difference it makes on a wooden neck. Rich.
Sorry Rich, how do you achieve relief at just one end of the neck?
 11.
I rather like the orange. (So predictable of me, hangover from my Uni band "Agent Orange"). But it's looking like shiny metal may be best. I think T-shirts could look nice though... I wonder how much the non-standard form-factor will make them identifiable? Alex
Is it possible to have the orange paint impregnated with some reflective 'bits' (shiny under lights) or even some form of luminescence (like some watch faces) so that after exposed to bright light it would still shine on a black/dark stage?
 12. That headstock looks very clean for a 45 year old bass! Has anyone asked if he lives in the Outer Hebrides yet?
 13. There have been several PMs wishing me luck and bemoaning the fact that it isn't a fretted bass so how about if I deduct £50 to help toward a fret fund? £900 delivered
 14.
I want to be able to turn up the mids. I play mostly on the bridge pickup with full mid and some bass and almost no tone.
Buy the blue one and upgrade the electrics, a used preamp can be had for £30-£50 if you look. Though I have to confess that if I were you I'd run a Streamer with the 2 band EQ and see how you like it as the frequency centres are different for the MEC 2 v 3 band EQ... you might like it.
 15.
i always thought the thumb would look much better as a singlecut
Agreed... but think of the weight!
 16.
Basically in. Need to ask the parents, but yeah. I'll chip in. Will it be terribly bad for a 13yr old?
It'll probably be an excellent opportunity/experience. We'll try and rein in Big Al's use of expletives!
 17.
Have to go back to 4 strings John - I have my grandchild to think about
Kids, Grandkids... you may as well sell up now mate.
 18. Unfortunately string prices are starting to spiral upward (no pun intended). I just did a quick search on ebay and the price you were originally quoted for a 5string set of EB's is about the going rate, even Stringbusters are charging £21 +P&P. All in all the price may not suit but hardly extortionate prices.
 19.
Well he's selling an Ampeg, the bass was owned by Sean Welch of BS and the sellers username is Sean so maybe its the original seller.
Which has to raise the question was there some shill bidding entered into last year.
 20. I'm sure this sold on eBay last year along with another ex-BS bass related product (iirc an Ampeg amp). I wonder if this was the buyer or if it didn't sell originally?
 21. I'll state from the off that I am no 'techie' BUT I have hads a bit of 1st hand experience with gear, so my suggestions are based on those assertions. Have you categorically eliminated the fact that the wiring and/or the pots are fully functional and everything is soldered where it should be? I don't know the EMG range that well but a way to check this might be to insert and wire the pups in the other way around (I assume that they are the same size soapbars), i.e. the bridge in the neck position and vice versa. Alternatively is it possible to wire just one pup in at a time and try it in isolation?
 22.
You, sir, should be on television.
I'd have to move the vase then.
 23.
I'm looking for a new bass and I need something that ticks these boxes: P + J pickups Completely passive p-ups/electronics 24 Fret neck I'd quite like something vintage but it's not essential. It's fat passive tone with clear highs that I'm after, possibly something that contains a fair bit of maple. Not bothered about weight, ideally don't want to spend more than £1000 but I could go to £1500. Suggestions please The other option I have is sticking some nice passive pickups in my Warwick Streamer but I'm interested to see what basschatters have to suggest.
TBH as I read through your thread the bass that came instantly to mind was a Streamer Stage I with something like 'Wizards' slapped in... then I got to the bottom line of your text. Seriously I think there is only one bass that will fit your criteria; you already own it and the 'upgrade' will cost you £100. Go for it.
 24.
Hmmmm yeah that's true... or at least was. I have a new car since the end of last week. I reckon it needs to know the route too. You know me mate I *love* the Warwicks! each of them is a thing of beauty, ...it's like art for me. I want them all. Dammit
Go on, you may as well take it... I promise not to tempt you with another one when you get here.
