Not mentioned above is the fact that they feel very light and certainly don't feel like you're playing a 35" scale bass. Good luck with the sale, somebody snap one of these up!
Ooops many thanks for the reminder; I should have mentioned the weight... light! In fact the 4 stringers are 34" but they actually player like a medium scale bass due to the way that the upper-horn/swivel takes the strap point out to near the 12th fret. Also worth mentioning is the fact that they aren't slab/flat fronted, they are actually arch-topped so that the centre section is slightly thicker than the outer edges. The flame is actually a top as the back is alder which contributes to the tone. <edit> If there are interested locals, I can take these to the next local Bass Bash or to my gigs in the NE (The Guide Post in Springwell tonight! )

I 'think' (and I'd love someone to chip in otherwise)this is the only pair of 4 strings in the UK. I've owned the 5 that has sold on here a couple of times and I know of two other 5's but not seen or heard of another 4 string in the UK. Between these, the Dingwall and the 'Flowerpower' P bass I've got to make a sale soon!
It's the SS1 with the crack in the neck, bought off here last week
Thought that I recognised the flame of the body wood. How is that scratch?

The pair are up for sale but I'll only be selling one of them, as soon as one is sold I'll keep the one that is left... and I don't mind which one, even though I LOVE the piezo tone of the green one! The Orange one was bought 2 years after the Green (both imported from original distributors Melobar Guitars in the USA) as a back up but it has NEVER been gigged or left the house (hence the sale of one of them). I am the first and original owner of both of these basses. Not the recent NS line of headless basses, these are as a result of a collaboration between Ned and John Bolin (builds guitars for ZZ Top, Stones etc.). They have the same open headstock design as Ned's EUB and the design is very neat and tidy. Bassist magazine voted this design of bass as the best fingerstyle bass that they had ever reviewed; that is subjective but I have to say they are gorgeous to play and hear, one consideration is that while they are fabulous sounding basses I have never found the slap tone brilliant (I've never needed to tweak them to try and get a good slap tone but I'd have thought that you can)... but then I never slap so that's OK!. They feature a very neat 'swivel' top strap attachment which means that they hang beautifully and the centre of balance is brought back towards the player, whereas a Single-Cut bass might be a bit pushed away. Both basses have identical construction with any differences noted below; bolt on neck, with two of the bolts mounted @ 45 degrees to increase neck stability (and they are rock-solid). Maple necks with ebony fingerboards . EMG active pups with 18v system Vol/Pan/Bass/Treble/Sweepable-Mid. They both have a full round profile neck which is between Jazz and Precision width (for those who like to have a reference, though I've tried Jazzes that are as full and chunky as some P basses). Neck is coloured the same as the body and headstock and lacquer finished. Neck is finished solid black like the headstock Piezo equipped - with independant volume and centre detented tone control. Both basses come with the original Bolin cases that are moulded internally to fit the bass snug. The Orange bass is literally as new and though the Green bass has been gigged it is in excellent nick with some finger swirls above the rear pup and the odd 'tiny' ding or mark (being honest and it'd be hard to photograph any marks). Green - £1400 Amber - £1300 Delivery would be at cost and I've no problem boxing them up BUT I'd rather do a face to face deal as they are pretty rare and I'd hate them to be damaged.

'66 Jazz bass... Please Please Please bid on this!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yes I've spotted many similar listings and reported them but I've not tracked to see if they are from different sellers, is it the same account or different ones? I figured I'd have some fun and bid on this, possibly even winning it! -

warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If he had a genuine 66 Jazz available @ £1200 he'd be a chuffin mug selling at that. However, he is either selling a dodgy one or really wants significantly more but wants to tell a buyer in person; either way there is a rabbit away somewhere and he can't force buyers to contact him before bidding. -

Don't bid too much as it'll be nice if it were to go up in small amounts with many people! -
Over the last 30+ years of playing bass live in bands, I've gotten as much (possibly more) enjoyment out of some of the simplest bass-lines as I have from some of the more technical and flash stuff. As has been said already, it's about the song/the whole experience and if I need to play one note 120 times in succession I'd be happy knowing it was what was required... in fact I'm already imagining varying the tone of that single note by altering my finger/pick attack, subtly altering the dynamic as dictated by the other instruments, possibly even playing few individual notes and letting them sustain to add space or tension as I start to put the notes back in. Oooh I'm off to play some U2!

...but please, please, please DON'T contact the seller first! I'm sure this guy is running scams but either way it really p*sses me off when sellers demand that you contact them first (because they want to do a deal off ebay... IF they have the item) before placing a bid; Sorry but that isn't how ebay works, I don't have to do any such thing!
Hi Karl, your photobucket link to pics isn't working

Ta for that. Spooky cos I just clicked on it and it worked fine. There is only one picture, it hasn't stopped snowing since I put it up for sale/trade. Going to wotk in Sweden tomorrow for 2 days, so no replies to pm's tomorrow/Wed until evening. Cheers, Karl.
The photobucket link works... and takes the viewer directly to 'their' own bucket account! LOL

Yep MEC preamps are mega expensive new but they are generally dirt cheap if you find one used on ebay. However, I've fitted Aguilar OBP1 and Glock pres to match with MEC pups and they work great; there are loads of other pres that would do just as good a job.
Have you tried the Orange Terror Bass then? Thumps like a mofo.
JPJ on BC is local to me & has one, which sounded nice enough at low volume but I haven't personally tried that one... saying that he got rid of his in favour of lugging his big ol SWR about!
-
I have to confess that I am not a fan of digital amps (a sweeping generalisation but I've owned or at least tried in a real-life situation many of the main players), I find that they lack what I would defined as 'thump/punch' in the low end. I wouldn't say they were spongy in those frequencies but certainly they didn't carry the low end as non-digital amps can do (I am talking about decent quality brands). IIRC Dave Funk of Thunderfunk said that some amps throw doughnuts but his amps throw cannonballs.... not the greatest but it is visual enough for me! Hence I am intrigued to try one of these but I have a feeling that the poor representation of the Warwick brand in the UK is going to make that difficult unless you live close to the one or two retailers which will undoubtedly be down South. Saying that I'd need some kind of returns policy as many digital amps can sound fine in isolation, then you put it in a live band scenario and you identify the shortcomings! ...unless someone has taken the plunge in the NE? .

Mark Bass F Series (True Power Rating Help)
warwickhunt replied to neptunehealer's topic in General Discussion
Not trying to be ar5ey but even the 100w difference between the lowest and highest ratings won't make a ha'peth of difference in the real world. The ratings on the cabs (regardless of make) will be just as vague/incorrect as the amps ratings and whether you are putting in 550w rather than 450w won't 'really' matter. -
I've watched BIN's before, because i think the seller has started high, will realise after 3 days he's pitched it high, only to lower the BIN considerably, if you 'aint watchin', but you're interested, then it could go elsewhere. This happens more often than you think, less so, since the 'best offer' option appeared, but its a regular thing. I also watch things that I'm curious about what the current market price is, keeps you up to date.
^ This.

FS Fender Roadworn Jazz Sunburst inc extras ON HOLD!
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in Basses For Sale
Quick update: I've been offered £60 for the Badass and £50 for the Wizard 'Hammers'. Now the Badass isn't fitted to the bass so that is an easy sale but if someone wants to buy the Jazz as is and do the deal for the parts they are potentially going to get the Jazz for £590! At this point this has to be one of the cheapest RW Jazzes being sold on here. -
Yes it is an odd one that WarwickMEC don't officially list a 3x9v compartment/cover. I'm wondering if that meant that it was out sourced to a 3rd party or (most likely) Warwick didn't originally fit the compartment, as it could have been a retrospective LED fit? I know that Warwick do a factory LED but IIRC the extra battery has been in the control route and x2 batteries were in a double compartment. It'd be interesting to establish if there are any images of 'factory' basses that have LEDs or that have a triple compartment.
