  1. Great these kinda things are out there...
  2. Pure Tone Multi Contact Output Jack... Switch Craft are known for quality, but this is a Game Changer... 2 spring contacts for the tip and 2 spring contacts for the sleeve. https://puretonetechnologies.com/products/pure-tone-multi-contact-1-4-output-jack Real positive feel... memories of Lemo... Amazon and the 'Bay...
  3. Squier Affinity - '04 Indonesia P Bass Pickup and Loom... Ideal for a P Bassed(!) Project... £20 UK Posted
  4. Ibby SR300 Left Hooker... £50... Daft Money... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1232501087369369/?ref=facebook_story_share
  5. Nah... 'AliBacker'... Commissioned Build via Ali Express.
  6. Rummage thru the odds 'n sods uncovered a few sets of pre-used strings... was looking for Rounds for this... every set except one were cut 2+2 ala Ibby SR... So strung up with the only set of 4 In-Line strings i could find, which happen to be Rounds... and this happens!.. Core on the E had snapped at the peg, so Tuning-Up just stretched the wrap... AR$E! Now gotta sort a set of rounds... £$€ ☹ EDIT: Cut of the broken bit... and with a short bit down the hole, got a turn and a half-is around the peg.. SAVED!
  7. Pickups In... Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage Alnico V Wired Up... Alpha A250k, Artec QTP, Pure Tone Multi-Contact Jack
  8. Hate the whole 'Hack' thing... How many times has the 'spring gone ping' and stuck to the magnet on the underside... so here is a P Bass Pickup Fitting Tip... works equally well for J and other pups... I added a foam off cut to the body, as the foam on the back of the pickups was not thick enough to hold the bobbins in the covers... the pickups were too low and the springs were also getting fully compressed... Cocktail sticks in the screw holes... Springs on... then pups over the cocktail sticks... you can get a pointy thing in there to sort the wiring run. Remove one stick at a time and replace with adjustment screw... Use a sandwich bag between screwdriver tip and screw head to protect finish. I like a fairly compressed spring as it makes the pup a stronger anchor, lightly compressed springs, and/or soft or lightly compressed foam allow a lot of movement... pushing in.
  9. Found another Artec QTP wiring dia on the Spartan Music site, Artec importer... QTP switch wired across the pup, hot & ground at Vol - like the Kent Armstrong pickup diag - and not to the Vol to Jack - like the simple Artec diag above... This Is The Way...
  10. Can i consult the Basschat Hive Mind?.. I picked up a cheapy Squier P... just to put to good use a Kent Armstrong PBV pickup and an Artec QTP Tone Control... made sense to me... Kent Armstrong P Bass wiring looks to have the Tone Control across the Input of the volume control - Pickup Hot to Ground... The Artec wiring looks to have the QTP across the Output of the volume control - Volume Out and Ground... I think this was how the early P Bass and Teles were wired in the 50s... to preserve tone when Vol reduced, but suffering Vol drop when Tone rolled off. Any experience, any difference, similar to a Tonestyler? and whats best?..
  11. ^ I tried something similar with a wood TRC...
  12. P Pup and loom removed from a Squier Affinity P, made in Indonesia Sept '04... Are these std jobbies? Just look a little different being full potted instead of loose cover, and with the pole pieces extending between to strips of magnet rather than 1 piece magnet across the bottom of flush pole ends. Dismantled the Bass before giving em a go, as the bass only had 2 strings, and i had a Kent Armstrong PBV waiting. Any thoughts?
  13. Couple of issues to sort... The Kent Armstrong pickups (i got a deal on when doing the Ibby Passive P, which got Maida Vale Low Rider Alnico IV...) are Alnico, hence no magnet on the bottom and the sponge blocks i've got are two thin to hold the bobbin in the cover... Need thicker foam.
  14. Stripped the Pickup and electrics out... New loom time with a Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage Alnico Pickup to go in, Alpha pot for Vol an Artec QTP Passive Tone Switch and a Pure Tone Multi-Contact jack socket and some old school cloth covered wire...
  15. I'd been 'Following Form' on Facebook Market Place... Time Rich but Money Poor i set of on a 60 mile nearly 4 hour round trip to Borehamwood... Could of done it in half-ish the time, at double the distance, M25, M1... But that would of cost over 4x as much plus the bridge toll in the car, so it was the 'lil 125 scoot 15 miles in to Central London, then 15 miles out the other side... and back. Returned with a neglected Squier P, Affinity Indonesia '04, In Black, with a few dents, dinks and donks, 2 strings, and a manky rosewood fretboard... All apart... Fretboard de-gunk with Isoprop and 0000 wire wool, then a lemon oiling... Frets got a 0000 wire wool-ing, followed by Dremel and Auto-sol polish... Back of the neck got a sanding with 3 grades of Halfords Sanding Sponge to remove the lacquer, headstock sanded... Neck bees-waxed, Cheeky Decal and a couple of coats of lacquer... Tuners and Bridge dismantled cleaned and back together.
