That is a nice one. Great basses, really nice necks. I wish they weren't quite so heavy - I had a cracker in black that I had to move on.
As for keeping it satin... Don't polish it so much?
Yes, why didn't I think of that. Where do you suggest getting the nitro spray? I think there is somewhere that sounds more like a maker of handbags but I forget the name now. -
I have a black/black Fender Precision with a Mighty Mite maple/maple Jazz neck on it. Having left the headstock decal-less for a while now I have decided to stick a Fender decal on it - 70s style Precision Bass one as that is how the bass has ended up looking. The neck is the plain finish, rather than tinted, which I think has a light coating of clear satin finish on it? Certainly looks like it, rather than being completely un-finished wood. What would experienced hands suggest as the best clear laquer to use? I think I would prefer satin finish, but how do you keep a satin finish when polishing? tried it before on a headstock and it ended up gloss! ta!

I noticed this on eBay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hohner-red-bass-guitar-with-case-/221188108051?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item337fd6af13 Terrible advert, even worse picture, starting at a tenner but might well go for a song. Hohner B Bass. These are nice! Think Hohner Jack or B2A but with a body and headstock. Also came with a drop D bridge built in. This has a missing battery cover - so does mine but they are wedged in tight and so it is mainly cosmetic.

I have a thing about thin and shallow necks and have tried a few. I had a Fender Jaguar, which had the same sized neck as a Geddy Lee. Very shallow. I also had a Peavey Fury II which had a neck possibly even slimmer - really fantastic neck if slim and shallow is your thing - nicer than the Milestone III that I had once. Also Fender Precision Lyte - another shallow neck. All of these are shallower than a 'standard' Jazz bass neck, even if they are all 38mm at the nut. Tried a Yamaha RBX800E for a while, which had a lovely neck but this was 'roughly' the same as a standard Jazz. Similar width but slightly chunkier still - Hohner B2A and B-bass. Similar again is the SBMM SB-14, which I guess must be similar to the Sterling. I actually find this one extremely comfy, even though it is slightly chunkier than the untra-skinnies. I have (and have had) a number of Westones - these have all been similar necks to the Hohners. Very nice necks. Horses for courses, really.

I had a Washburn Scavenger which I think was a '79. Weighed a tonne - nearly 11lbs. No neck dive with a body that heavy. Maybe I am not a true connoisseur, or maybe I just have lower standards, but I would disagree with Mr Noel in as much as mine was better built than most Squiers (I would say any except my latest mid 80s MIJ one) and some Fenders I have played. A decent alternative to a P-Bass I would say, if you can handle the weight. Worth upgrading the electrics -I ended up putting a better pickup and a P-Retro - if it hadn't been so damned heavy I would still be using it out of preference now.

I never liked them particularly, always thought they were a bit poppy, but at Mrs S's request went to see that film last year (year before?) that was a 'one night only' thing of them playing live somewhere or other. Or something like that. Anyway, against my better judgement I was really impressed. Jon BJ was superb, a little ball of energy, and his voice live was incredibly good. They have a few nice toons. It is only one night of your life - I'd go for it.

I'm surprised that we have "Timewasters" on BassChat

I have bought and sold a lot on here. My feedback was a hot topic a while back. Sad, eh? I have only had two minor irritations during transactions, both as a buyer. I always pay immediately, never mess about. One seller made up some cock and bull story about the post office holding on to the package for a week before it sent it out (which was repeated to the next buyer, I noticed). Another seller kept radio silence for a week or so - I PMd about the whereabouts of the item and he said he had been too busy to get in touch - some people have such busy lives! However he had found the time to post a picture of himself in the 'post pictures of yourself' thread and also a video of his band in a similar thing. I guess different people have different priorities. But the overwhelming majority of dealings have been a pleasure. -
Sold a pickup to Martin - nice easy transaction. Good comms, a pleasure doing business.
-
Jose bought a pickup from me - instant payment, great transaction. Pleasure doing business.
-
Bought a Jazz control plate + knobs from Nick - easy transaction, plate posted off really quickly. Cheers!!

One is just fine and dandy for me. That is a cracker!!
-
That is absolutely lovely. Do you want to trade it for something?

Wishbone Ash, trip down memory lane soon.

This has got me fired up - Martin Turner version are playing in 'Touchline' in Hullbridge on March 15th. Think I'll pop along there. -
There is of course a website devoted to them: http://www.shergold.co.uk/ And a discussion forum: http://www.shergold.co.uk/forum/index.php More than you'll ever need to know on that forum. Includes a chap that used to make them! Basically hand made in England, nice quality machines.
It's all this cash you spend on your holidays!

No, i replaced it with a BDDI a couple of years ago and leant it to someone on here. He didnt have a need for it but i told him to keep hold of it until we meet up, but that hasnt happened yet.. Hopefully he still has it.
Definitely sounds like a plan, then. And £26 towards my next trip! PM incoming...

I agree - if you like the tone a J-Retro pre-amp will expand upon what is already there. There is one for sale at the moment in the classifieds. Look at new pups if this doesn't do the job, but I think it probably will. I have had a couple of issues with a P-retro recently and I would like to say how helpful John has been. Top bloke.
-
Dave that is a very kind offer. Do you not use it? Could be a plan - try before I buy! I said I was a tightwad!
-
'Tis my biggest indulgence. Especially in winter.
-
Probably the first thing I will buy when I get back from holiday
-
Interesting. All this and I haven't used one yet!
-
Daft theoretical question before I go on holiday. Could you daisy chain say, 3, of the Behringer BDI-21, each with a different setting? Which might kind of equate to the 3 stomp buttons on the Sansamp but still be half the price? And, if so, which would/could you Di from - if any?
