Thanks for your responses. I like the look of the Fishman Fission (around £270). I also like the idea that I/we could do it cheaper with a chain set up. Right quick google search shows POGs at around £150, think I've got a Ibanez distortion/overdrive somewhere. Can anyone recommend a signal split/blend pedal?
it would be solo shows i have been in a band and we split up cause the "front man" was a cock so i was gonna do solo shows so the only person i need to listen to is me i write all my songs on the acoustic bass anyway
Fair point, band politics and personality clashes can be very tricky. Con't see any problems with doing solo shows on acoustic bass. I say go for it as long as you've got the volume to suit the venue. I'm assuming amplified acoustic bass? Hope it goes well and keep us updated on how it goes.

Solo shows? Or like band shows just using an acoustic bass instead of an electric? Edit - Volume would be my first concern either way.

Good evening effects experts/nerds, I recently heard some sound clips of the Akai UB1 Unibass Harmonised Bass Distortion and really fancy one. After a little research it turns out that they're are discontinued and very rare. Damn Does anyone know of any effect that does something similar? i.e. adds an octave up note with the option of distorting the added note, the added notes around the added note would be an excellent bonus. Come on, such a thing must have copied. COMPLETED: Behringer BDI-21 Bass Driver clone, works only on battery
rOB replied to topo morto's topic in Completed Items
very generous. Someone snap this up. -
My little setup does everything that I want it to. Sounds great with a bit of warm tubeyness for the covers and a drivey sound for the originals. Its a light, very loud, portable package (I hardly ever use the Ashdown 210) Wouldn't change it unless my bands changed (although I might get rid of the Ashdown). Very happy with it. Bass-wise I love my Schecter to bits, have done from the moment I picked it up in the shop.

Thought I'd revive this thread as I got properly gearstalked the other day by a barman at the venue I was playing at. He sat opposite the stage watching us set up and soundcheck. Came over after we played, complemented the band and then launched into questions about what make my bass was, the finish, the amp set up and the amp stand. Very complementary to the band and my sound. Stroked my ego very nicely :-) Friendly guy.
I just picked this up yesterday: I've had to use the previous owner's pictures, I plan to take some of my own soon. Anyway, it's a real stunner. The neck is fantastic and it's as light as feather. It's has a very vocal, even sounding tone that is interestingly articulate and organic at the same time. I can imagine many a happy soundman when you turn up with this, is must be very easy to mix!
Tasty. Very tasty

Played at Lock 42 in Leicester again last night. Played a decent set, a very, very new song went well and was complemented by people I respect afterwards. Great energy in the band, absolutely dripping with sweat by the end of our 30 min set which I consider a good sign. Smallish but enthusiastic crowd. Great comments from people after and a rumour of some local music media taking an interest. Not sure if anything will come of it but it would be a bonus after a strong gig.
We really ought to be playing more in Leicester but don't really know the scene. Which venues should we be approaching and do you know of any musically suitable local bands (Psychobilly/Garage Punk) to share the bill with?
I'd try and get in touch with Firebug and Soundhouse as first ports of call. They're smallish venues but they're in town rather than the outskirts so its easier to get people in. Drop me a PM if you're struggling to get in touch with someone, I've got emails and phone numbers for the organisers in both places I think. Other venues to think about are the Musician (usually put on folk/americana/blues nights but they do do rock as well) and the Shed (can be tricky to get people into but fun to play, much of my mispent youth occured there). I've got a number for the guy at the Shed as well if you want it. Fraid I can't think of any musically similar bands around Leicester at the moment. If you speak to promoters they might be aware of some. Edit - Lock 42 is also a decent venue. A little out of town but easy to get gigs there. We play there a fair bit.
Completely fantastic!
Glad to hear it! Its really nice to hear about how well you guys are doing. Give us a shout if you play in Leicester any time and I'll try to come down. Played as part of the house band at a newish jam night on Thursday. Wasn't too bad as some great players turning up but I wish I had ignored the promoter when he said I wouldn't need an amp and that we'd put the bass through the PA. Unfortunately the monitoring wasn't nearly enough to be heard over the guitars and drums so plenty of mistakes from me. Oh well :-( Playing with my originals band tonight, hopefully a better experience!
As for the semi, I think that the French were lucky that Wales let go of 11 points through off-form kicking. Pleasant match, but I don't see them holding off either of the last two teams for long. We'll see...
To be honest I agree. Good luck anyway!
although he'd be a bit miffed at being asked to share his snare and cymbals.
Oo yeah that'd be bad form.
We play a lot of all-dayers which inevitably means shared backline/drumkit,and policy is to provide your own breakables. It's definately ettiquette to sort out kit share requirements before hand, and yes,our drummer would be peeved if a support band simply expected him to provide kit without prior arrangement.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Although its expected, its nice to check before hand. I'll carry on doing it. Cheers, Rob

Morning folks, Loving the rugby this morning. We all know people's opinions about sharing bass gear. That has been well discussed and people have very strong opinions about it. Personally I'll share my amp or back-up bass if people ask ahead of time with a genuine reason or if they have had an emergency on the night. Quick question about your experiences sharing drum gear from a non-drummer. It seems to be generally the case that at our gigs the band playing last provide drum shells (bass and toms) and stands whilst all the other bands bring their own breakables. As the band leader (with no experience of playing drums) I make it a pre-gig courtesy to get in touch with the band playing last to say hi, offer local help if they are from out of town and to check that drum share is ok with them. If we're playing last then we would of course bring drums and expect to be sharing them with the other bands playing. Is this necessary? Would your drummer be annoyed if another band didn't explicitly ask about drum share ahead of time?

I can't believe places like this still exist.
