Tooth paste and or baking soda for micro scratches.
Deeper scratches, jewellers rouge works wonders.
if it’s deep enough to catch your finger or thumb nail when you flick it over the scratch you need to start with abrasive paper and work down to the rouge
When I was poorer and basses came so cheap or exchanged easily for something shiny, I kept my strings alive by boiling them in my old mother’s saucepan when she wasn’t around.
Basses came and went so fast (Kay’s/squiers/Antoria’s) buying new strings didn’t enter the equation.

Try the Sun-Beams if you haven’t already they are a tad more expensive but I get a good run out of them, I’ve tried boomers but found as many others report they do die fast
