  1. Just received Kort DT-10 from Jono. I say received since this was given away with an intermittent fault - just charged for P&P. Despite it being a freebie, the deal was done almost instantly, the pedal was dispatched promptly and superbly packaged. Great experience all around!
  2. Got to meet Russ, Binky and the family, had a lovely and much appreciated cuppa. Oh and I sold him my Peavey 410tx. All told a great day out! (Excellent comms, quick payment and all that too 😁)
  3. I'll be in London on Saturday 02 March and could deliver this if anyone is interested

  5. Almost tempted just to see the Binky bass in person 😜. Not to mention meeting its owner...

  7. Excellent condition apart from scuffing on corners as pictured. Sounds great. Never pushed hard. Works perfectly. Prefer collection but can discuss courier at buyers expense. 350W power handling · 40Hz to 16kHz frequency response · 102dB sensitivity · 8 ohms impedance · Dimensions: 18-1/4"H x 22-1/2"W x 16-5/8"D. 62 lbs.
  8. That's a really hard one. One of the true greats - an influence on just about anyone playing bass in just about any style.
  9. Lee Sklar did something similar to his '62 Jazz. Along with carving the top and reshaping the lower horn...
  10. Prior to getting married I never wore rings. Mine bothered me initially and clanked against the frets. However the idea of taking it off and losing it and the concomitant loss of spouse led to me persisting. I found my technique adapted itself (no conscious input) pretty quickly and I don't notice it at all now.
  11. Bought Mono M80 Dual gig bag from Hessler. Great experience, good communication, no issues.
  12. John's products are very well regarded (I use on of his piezo/magnetic buffers in one of my basses and it's great) and he is a very helpful guy, so you could just ask him to get a definitive response as to whether it will work. The thing is though, if the existing preamp simply doesn't sound very good, adding an mid EQ, no matter how lovely, is unlikely to magically fix the problem. Equally if the pickups don't sound good the preamp won't fix it. Onboard EQ is no different from your amps EQ except in the specifics of the EQ curves and any coloration that the particular circuit introduces. The one big advantage of having electronics on the bass is the ability to drive long cables without (particularly high frequency) signal loss (or for a few circuits like the John East preamps to actively buffer the pickups separately). The EQ is more of a convenience item. Having said that passive basses work just fine and many people prefer them to actives. Not many pickups actually need an onboard preamp to work hence my suggestion to see what the bass sounds like with the preamp disengaged. On a wider note do you find the sound you like with other instruments (you mentioned a Lakland 5502 - I have one and it's great!) or though other reproduction (amps/recording gear etc)? If you are seriously trying basses in shops bring yours for direct comparison, since the amplification and the acoustic space will have big effect on sound quality.
  13. Does it sound good acoustically? If not fiddling with electronics will likely not help, and it might be time for a new instrument. As far as the electronics go, it's a matter of finding what is the weakest link. Cheap way to do that is bypassing the preamp and seeing what happens.
  14. Well playing an old jazz tune on a uke bass is obviously a crime against humanity...
  15. Here's another comprehensive, independent review site: https://www.compressorpedalreviews.com/ if you want more reading...
  16. Nigel just bought my GK amp. Couldn't have been better experience. Great communication throughout, ultra quick payment once the deal was agreed. Excellent BCer.
  17. IME it's quite a bit more difficult than on a 4 string. The thumb over the top of the neck as per DrT can be helpful, but I find (1) using my index finger flattened out or middle finger if the index is fretting on the A, D or G strings touching the B to mute and (2) the underside of my right (for righties) forearm resting on the B string when I'm not playing it this only works if you play "thumb up" or "thumb parallel" technique and don't go the full Louis Johnson whacking the living daylights out of the instrument...
  18. Listening again I think you're right F F# G A F# G A D. The tone makes the pitch little murky (that's my excuse anyway)
  19. Just bought some DR Highbeams 40-120 from Chris. Exemplary experience on every level. Superb, quick, clear and honest communication (and bonus picture of gorgeous Leduc 😉). Very fast updates to the listing and dispatch of strings, which were packaged to within a inch of their life and exactly as described. Tony
  20. Hi Mike, A few questions on this: What are the markers on the side for this - as for a fretted bass, dots at the 3,5,7,9, 12 etc fret positions, something else? How's the truss rod? What's the nut width and neck shape? Any fingerboard wear? Hard to see from the pictures... Can you confirm no twists, humps, ski-jump issues?
