I use an ms60b for quick recording of ideas. Just plug it into the laptop and off we go. Wouldn't ever gig with it though, everything but the delays and tremolo effect on it is pretty poor quality. The od and fuzz effects in there are horrible and the amp modelling is a joke. Get a used market bass pod xt or a pod x3 instead if you want something that does it all. Me I'll stick to analog stompboxes. Pricey but much more satisfying.
This could very well be the first negative review of the ms60b i've read!

Heres my current setup. It goes like this: Bass > OC3 > Zoom b9.1ut > FX send > Synth wah > mega distortion > zoom 506> FX Return > AMP I have got the FX loop blended with the clean sound from the Zoom, to keep a bassy signal throughout. I set the multi FX as one patch and use the 5 buttons as stomps. 1. envelope filter 2 FX loop on and off 3. pitch bender (+12 and +24 using the Z - pedal) 4: tremelo 5 . tap delay (delay turned off and on by the button above but is also set to blend in with the zpedal). Always on effects are light compression, a SVT amp sim, the EQ, and noise reduction. In my current band I have a couple of other special effect patches but I play 95% of the stuff on this one patch. The zoom 506 I literally use as a stand in Fuzz! Its weird, cos iv tried out alot of fuzzes over the past year and I genuinely prefer the sound of this! The rest of the time its bypassed. It'll definately be leaving the board once I get a Fuzz im happier with. I fancy getting a phaser for the end of the chain too, thats next on the list!

I've always been impressed by the Tech 21 VT Bass. Never played through one myself, but heard one live a couple of times and liked it! Just a warm sounding pedal. Fraser
Yep, I have one on each of my boards, brightonion make them and so does nessy on here. V simple idea but v tidy!
EXcellent! One of them on there website is £20 and is designed exactly as I'd need it! Thanks.

Something very small, that literally allows a couple of patch leads to go in and out it from the start and end of the pedal chain, and then at gigs I'd simply plug bass and amp into the box? not a pedal, just a little passive box. Some pedal boards have it built in I think. Google search comes up with nothing (probably because I cant work out exactly what it would be called) but I would think it would be quite a handy addition, especially if some of your pedals are hidden away and might not easy to plug in and plug out of? Any ideas?

The good thing about running it in the FX loop is that you can run a clean signal aswell, and it also means you can choose to have the muff after some other effects (compressor for example). I like putting things like that in the FX loop of my zoom b9.1ut mainly for the clean mix blend.

It seems quite alot of pedals out there that have an effect out and a dry out. I have two, my digitech bass synth wah, and my OC-3. Now I see the benefits of seperating out the 'dry out' from the 'effected signal', but unless I had a seperate out to the PA, or some sort of mixer at the end of the chain going into an amp, I'm struggling to think of a practical way of using these alternative outputs? Any ideas? How do you use yours? Do you use yours?? in my smallish pedal board, I could potentially have 4 outputs running to the board! ie stereo DI from my multi FX, octave from the OC-3, and the synth from the synth wah! Just to note too, I know that we dont NEED to use all connections, but alot of pedals seem to offer the two outputs so perhaps im missing out on something!

bought a digitech synth wah pedal. great comms, and quick delivery. Top transaction. Fraser
Seconded, it's totally mental on bass and definately worth a laugh. Ebay often has them selling them for around £20 in fact - very under-rated pedal IMO.
Just got one on Ebay for £17! The youtube clips on guitar dont sound overly great, but its worth a punt at that price!

On the effects unit. Exactly as you described on the opening post.

I could be wrong but I think the thing you're describing wont have anything to do with the PSU. I did for a wee while use a different PSU from a TV (as I had left the original PSU at a gig) and the noise from it was very noticeable, but it wasnt linked to the grounding hum. I got a decent one from Maplin and it eliminated the additional hum, but hasnt stopped the grounding buzz.
-
that exact thing happens with my b9.1ut. its ok at gigs. but very noticeable at home practice.

Oh I see.... I misremembered. I thought it was 5. you're right, I generally only have a noise gate on because its there... not necessarily because my sounds need it. (sorry about the thread hijack). FWIW, I currently use a zoom b9.1ut, and the defret sounds really good on that. I would guess the ms60b is similiar.
I've had mine for a couple of weeks now. I got it for pub gigs where the big board is just too much. I love it. I copied a lot of my effect settings from my B3 and apart from having to adjust the wet/dry on a couple of filters, they are identical sounds. The stand out effect for me is the LineSel. It's the LS2 model, and it adds a lot of functionality to this pedal. With this you can have say a comp 1st in your chain, then the LineSel 2nd, then another effect or two in 3rd & 4th slots. The comp stays on all the time but you can use the LineSel to turn on the next two effects. Just like the real thing, as if they were in the effect loop. Sweet. I'll have a look at the defretter later.
that is very useful to know. I was thinking of a ms60b to cover my 'always on' effects, but this would mean I could use it for a stomp too. ie have comp, amp sim eq and noise reduction always on, next slot as line selector and last slot as chorus. thanks for the info!

As hamfist suggests, get multi dc with a loop and stick an of pedal in. the fuzz on my multifx are ok but distortion and od are pretty poor. all the other fx are really quite decent though! I returned to multifx after 10 years without one and theyve came on immensely ime.

Sounds a bit like the piece of music when you hit 'demo' on a keyboard. As others have said, incredible musicians and i bet they're tight as f*** live, but its a bit much. I found it quite hard to listen to actually!

I've been going to alot of hiphop nights the past year or two, and I have alot of respect for agood DJ. I think people may be thinking of the guy at an 18th birthday party playing 'come on Eileen' etc. What that guy in the video does, is a musical instrument in itself, and hard to master!

Absolutely loved that. 'Murdering a classic' is a ridiculous thing to say. Its different, but certainly not ruining it!

I managed to find one with the right dimensions for 'plan b'. thanks for the reply though!

Do not use Parcelforce to ship musical instruments
lefrash replied to chriswareham's topic in General Discussion
I've never had anything damaged by parcel force but in the past 8 months I've had 3 packages going missing (including a bass guitar). Now for me, thats more than poor service, surely a package that size doesnt just get lost, it gets lost in the boot of someones car! Also I just went to pick up a small package on saturday after receiving a slip through the door, When I got to the depot they couldnt find it, and had to come back. I got call this afternoon to say they;ve found it. I went to pick it up only to wait close to 20 minutes for them to find it again! Whilst I was waiting on both days there was 4 other customers they had to ask to come back for packages that they couldnt find. Absolutely pathetic! -
I had a moment of feeling lazy and considered skipping the hinges, but I'm glad I did use them - totally worth the effort.
Well beat this for laziness! I jumped into Band Q after work to pick some hinges up. Got home and realised they wouldnt fit. So I just did without them! I can almost gaurantee I will regret this on its first outing!

Bought a OC-3 pedal, great communication, quick delivery and top notch goods. Would happily do business again. Thanks!
Major rebuild of my pedalboard this weekend ... made a new insert for my cheapo case, similar to the old one but now with a hinged upper level so it's easier to get at the cabling, and with a bit more height so I can fit a few things underneath. I'm trying to stay with this size, the footprint is the same as a Pedaltrain Jr. Also, there are a couple of upgrades; newcomers are a Cusack Music Screamer Bass overdrive, a Dawner Prince Effects Starla tremolo and an Empress Phaser. MDF, some wood, hinges, a bit of spray paint and strips of Velcro ... Not so tidy once all the cables are hooked up ... Looks nice from the outside at least ... The effects chain ... I admit it's gotten a bit crazy.
Funnily enough I just started a build of an almost identical pedal board yesterday. I wasnt planning on the hinges but this really has inspired me to rethink. They make complete sense!

Another thought I had would be to 'tier' it. LIfting up the multi FX a few inches allowing me to run a few pedal along the front, and I can put the cables and power supply under the FX. That mean the board would only need to be 21" long, but 16" deep, and 6" high! (internally). But finding one that size is pretty difficult too! I'm guessing that would be verging on non-pedalboard cases!
