1. Either of those would work, but I'd be more inclined to go with an EQ pedal boosting the lows and highs.....assuming you are wanting the scooped mids slap tone.
2. I know what you mean. My LH500 is super loud, but im only running my 300w cab at 16 ohms, so realistly I'm getting nowhere near the 500w power but yet its still overpowered for my needs. I also understand that people are likely to have tried heads through an 8ohm cab and it would likely be pretty weak through that, but I have the ablility to get a 300w @ 4 ohm cab so in theory I should be able to get the best out a BH250. Depending how my cars MOT goes this month, i might be tempted to pick one up and give it a go for a month or so.... then sell on either the LH500 or BH250 depending on what the outcome is!
3. Sorry for the thread resurrection..... but I was hoping someone has tried at 4ohm what the volumes are like?I currently have my 500w lh500 running into a 2x10 which is wired at 16ohms and I'm finding that has plenty of volume for me... it seems a bit daft carting about an lh500 when one of these bad boys once i wire my cab at 4ohms would do the trick!
4. Wow that video is well played, but if I did as busy a line as that at a gig, id get shot! Funnily enough though, I played this tune for the first time on Saturday night. Although I didnt stick to the original bass line, its a great opportunity to get a groove going with the drummer! Good fun playing it.
5. Just to give you all a heads up, I went and purchased a 12v power supply from maplin. It was £27.99. But I have A/B'd against the one I was using temporarily and there is an instant decrease in noise. I've even noticed without even switching the zoom unit on, as soon as I plugged the old one in there was a buzz. So in other words.... £27.99 well spent! thanks for the advice guys. Fraser
6. some interesting ideas there! That ENO pedal is worth a go just at that price! Not gonna lose out by much. With a blended dry signal that could very well do the job.I might be tempted to go for one, give it a go, and if its not cutting it, splash out on something like the EBS multidrive. I really like what I've heard of that.
7. I cringe when I think of my first recordings! all my stuff was directly into the mic input of my dads bog standard home pc through a zoom 506 pedal and a karaoke machine mic for vocals! It couldnt record anymore than 20 seconds at a time or else it would jutter to a halt and the latency was really bad so what I had to do was record a bit then drag it back. Me and a few mates recorded some pretty complicated stuff that way when I think about it! My recording set up is very similiar now just slightly upgraded! I really wish I still had some of those things I recorded! Would be really interesting to hear.
8. Damnit!! the case i have will make it a tight squeeze with even a boss sized pedal. I've got an old cheapo OD boss sized pedal and it would just about fit with low profile connectors but bit of a tight squeeze.... I wonder if theres any micro pedals out there that may do the job I need... like one of the mooers or something like that. Saying that, the Ebs pedal sounds great and might tempt me into a larger case! * when I say need, I really mean 'want'.
9.
The ebs multidrive could be a good option as well
That EBS sounds pretty close to what I want.... plus it seems to do higher gain stuff pretty well too (just incase I want a bit of versatility)
10. Some good idea's here and most are ones I would never have thought of. The simple reason it needs to be no more than a boss size is simply because if I can get something suitable I plan to get that, my zoom and all the power supplies mounts on a bit of a board which will fit into my current case. So as you can guess there is only around a boss width of avaiable space so anything bigger I'd need to get a bigger case etc (and thats would be getting mental) I find buying pedals really difficult as I only really know its suitable after a month of playing about with it. Demoing in a shop gets me nowhere. I guess thats probably why I'm more inclined to buy cheaper pedals 2nd hand (so that I can move them on with little or no losses). I'l certainly check these ones out on youtube tonight and let you know what I decide. I'm tempted to borrow my mates jackhammer too and try that for a bit, but I cant imagine that doing a good 'grind'.
11. ah the good old thread about distortion pedals.... i currently use a multifx for most of my needs. i find the fuzz on it perfectly acceptable but the overdrives are not up to much. what im looking for is some that can do mild OD... nothin mad and it doesn't even need blend as my zoom will do that. so here's the criteria. can do mild OD with decent control to get a range of sounds can't be larger footprint than a standard boss under 100 knicker blend not necessary isn't fizzy and more of a warm grind to it.... perhaps like the sound from the valve in an ashdown abm head. any thoughts?
12. you can do that in the zoom b9.1ut. the 4 pedals across the front can be separate patches if u want... so within each patch you can have the desired effects chain. have to admit i don't use it like that but its possible. the fuzz is decent enough but the dirt sounds are a bit guff. there us however a switchable effects loop so if u want a separate dirt pedal in your sound you just leave that always on and let the zoom switch it on and off. again iv never done this but debt see why it wouldn't work perfectly well.
13. Much appreciated Barkin. Would be good to know for future too, I really like the zoom so I can imagine having it for quite a few years, and I can pretty much guarantee this wont be the last PSU I leave lying aroud! haha
14. Thats good to know, as I'd likely just have bought a supermarket one which from the sounds of it, wouldnt have been much better. I'l get a half decent one then. I'l google about foir the mA rating too. Cheers
15. This is his criteria: 4 strings nothing weirdly shaped he is learning slap, and is really digging that style (not just a fad, he's been practicing for a while) like the musicman style pickup sound. Was looking at the squire VM jazz. I'm pretty stuck as I've not been in the bass buying market for a while, so what do you recommend? I said go 2nd hand, but what is good for £350 these days? I also thought about something with an active pickup if he really wants to get that slap bass tone. He might even be along as I suggested coming here for a wee browse. Fraser.
16. funnily enought they will be kickin about the wickerman festival this weekend as so will i! If I see them I will ask the dude in person!
17. Just PM them on youtube.... i bet they would reply!
18. Hi guys, I've got a zoom b9.1ut multiFX and stupidle left the power supply at a gig. Its a DC12V, 3A power pack. Now, I do have one exactly like this (for my bedroom telly) and I used it tonight at practice and there was a noticable hum from my set up. This wasnt there when plugging directly into the amp using either jack leads so I can only assume its the multiFX unit. The only thing thats changes since then was the power supply. It is the same rating as I would need (according to the zoom manual) but is there something else that the original pack may have had over the one for my telly? The reason I ask is because I want to knw what to look out for when purchasing a replacement. (and I literalyl have no idea how it all works). Cheers for the help Fraser
19. This has every knob that a good fuzz needs! sounds exactly how i would expect, but having that blend and mid is great!
20. Thats a very good tip from Grangut. all my instruments are painted finish at the moment but thats a definite tip for the future! Cheers! As others said though, As long as its still working, and the big dents dont have sharp edges then I'd be tempted to try not restore it back to former glory, but accept it and move on! Genuinely roadworn gear is cooool!
21. i play in a non guitar hip hop band. The sound is intentionally sparse so that its all about the tight rap and drums. In fact before myself and the keyboardist got involved it was a duo! So its perfectly doable. What I hate though, is when a bass player tried to mimic what a guitarist would do. Whats the point in doing something on an instrument when its easy enough to do it on an instrument that will make it sound great!
22. Just to let you all know, I still dont have a refund, and had no contact from him in a month despite a number of emails being sent and facebook messages. I have his band details on facebook so he hasnt disappeared completely.
23. im playing later this evenin. hip hop in the t break tent. come along for a wee jig!
