1. How cheap is cheap? IMO, a bass players should be thinking about what makes him audible to the whole room and sound good in the process. If you gig then I'd suggest a 350watt head as the minimum and 2 112 cabs or, for a 1 cab solution, a Barefaced Compact.
2. A thread from Talkbass.... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/isobaric-cabs-will-they-loud-enough-913372/
3. I'd do a search. I seem to remember a few posts about these cabs in the past.
4. I'd get 1 Barefaced cab. That would be an ultra compact rig that would exceed the capabilities of these Orange cabs. I'd add another if needed.
5. 2 speakers pushing the same air? I'd rather have 2 speakers pushing twice the air of 1. I don't know if "the principal" is sound as this format isn't used by anyone else. If it was, surely more companies would be doing it.
6. Isn't the point of owning several different basses that they all have their own sound and doesn't that make them better?
7. Maybe the 5 string is a better instrument or you've outgrown 4 string basses. I can only guess. Either way why fight it? Just play the bass you prefer.
8. Google is your friend.... http://forums.fender...pic.php?t=23438
9. All the strings are useful. Some numbers, arrangements or keys sound better on a 5 string and some numbers don't need the low notes. I use all 5 strings, because I play across the neck, so I use the B string on most numbers but only go below E if needed, or I want to. I only take one bass to gigs so a 5 string bass is the most flexible instrument to play.
10. IMO, nobody can gig with a 110 cab, unless they are sitting behind an acoustic guitarist. 110 is not enough and you can't add another cab. Not a good rig. The old Eden gear was top notch, but I don't see the love for Eden anymore and they are not the same company these days.
11. Hi, I'd prefer to hear it in a band situation, so January would be good. Thanks.
12.
....only bass playing hasn't become cool again....
Bass has always been cool. It's our secret. I’d prefer if it was kept that way.
13. Why don't you look at Blue Aran. They do rubber feet.
14.
....his dying has immortalised him but he would still be a legend....
The previous 20 years ensured that Lennon was a legend. Dying early just ensured he couldn't screw up all the good work.
15. Lots of wonderings why Carol Kaye said this or that. Go and read up what she actually said. Whether you need to know anything about "music" depends on what you want to play. I knew a guy who wrote pretty good songs without any musical knowledge at all. He used to say it goes like this. Didn't hold back his song writing or our playing of his songs. Players will progress as far and as fast as they want, but this sounds like a good site for getting the very beginners over one of their first hurdles, playing their first songs.
16. Chaps, Is anyone in the South East gigging Barefaced Big Baby 2 or Super Compact cabs? Please drop me a line, I'd like to come along and hear them in action. Cheers
17.
....The wattage doubles @ 4ohms....
But the volume won't. Is this just a bit of gas or do you really need more volume? If you're current rig is underpowered then the most cost effective option is to add a second cab. Going to a 4 ohm cab will only work if it contains more speakers, like a 410. But, IMO, 2 Compacts will be better because they are practically as loud and much lighter. Techy stuff is not my forte.... but I believe the increase in volume between 8 ohms and 4 ohms is about 3 db and that's a very small number to your ears, especially in a noisy band. Adding a second 8 ohm cab will give you an extra 6db, which is a difference in volume that you will hear and, because you're moving much more air, will give you better tone. I know someone using 2 Compacts and they get a great sound. I’d check out the Compacts in the FS section.
18. The other thing I did to raise a cab above the handle of the one below was to buy some rubber feet from Maplins. They also work between amps and cabs and you don't have to unscrew anything.
19. I just put 2 pieces of foam either side of the handle which lifts the amp up and also protects it from vibration.
20. I'd switch your plans around. You'll get a little extra volume from the difference between running at 8 ohm and 4 ohm and very little extra tone, but you'll get a substantial increase in volume and improvement in tone between running one cab and two cabs.
21.
The drummer gets to hit them harder, which means he's more excited, which I guess makes everyone else more excited. All I know is, practise is a lot more fun, and feels "heavier" when we're all turned up. Also, to be fair, the snare drum sounds a sh*t load better when it's hit harder.
Sorry but I'm going to disagree.... loudness doesn't equal excitement; never has. Have fun playing loud if you want, but loud is just loud.
22. I was late once and they left no room on the stage for me. They didn't seem concerned until I asked why we weren't using bass tonight? On another gig I arrived to find that they'd stacked all the chairs where the bass should be set up. When we turn up I think about the space for the band. The others just think about themselves. It makes you wonder about the intelligence of the guys you're playing with!
23. Ask her why she hasn't said this before, when you're playing live. If you were OK live then just smile and agree with her. Make sure you only send out good recordings of the band in future!
24.
....I'm a huge fan of Macca's bass playing , and this line is pretty epic in an ad hoc, off- the- cuff kind of a way....
I've always been a fan of his playing on all instruments. I would guess his melodic lines come from being a piano player. But I think they did too many takes to warrent the description ad hoc.
