1. This is the problem with combo's. If you want to upgrade one part you have to replace both parts. How loud do you want to play? If you want to run 2 210 8 ohm cabs you'll need a separate amp. 2 210 cabs and a 500 watt amp will be a great rig and you can keep the combo for playing at home or low volume rehearsals. I'd also suggest a 212 to pair with your separate amp.
2. Forget the watts for the moment. Your combo is running 1 cab at 8 ohms. Add a second 8 ohm cab and it will be running at 4 ohms. That is the limit for most amps. So 2 8 ohm cabs = 4 ohms = good. Add a third 8 ohm cab and you will be trying to run the amp at 2.67 ohms which will generate more heat and usually causes the amp to at best shutdown or worst cause damage.
3. 10 live albums everyone should hear: Alive In America - Steely Dan Waiting For Columbus - Little Feat Rock Of Ages - The Band Mo Hippa Live - Jon Cleary Live - Delbert McClinton Roadwork - Edgar Winter Mad Dogs And Englishmen - Joe Cocker Live In Europe - Otis Redding Sessions At West 54th - Keb Mo Live At The Regal - BB King
4. I used to go to the Hyde park gigs. Saturday afternoons, a few beers first in The Tabard at Turnham Green, jump on the 88 bus and then see John Mayall, Jeff beck Group and many others. What a time. ps I thought WEM sounded pretty bad in comparison to the other gear available at the time. I wouldn't expect it to sound even that good now.
5.
....Don't want to sell the cab as it matches my other one.... Budget not an issue....
Sound better. Get a good 212 cab (Bergantino/Barefaced/Aguilar) and sell both of your cabs.
6. I'd disagree that Melody Maker wasn't for musicians. It certainly was and they covered everything. MM's greatness was in the sensible, adult and informative writing AND the classifieds. The ad's covered everything and if you were looking for a band then the Musicians Wanted section was the place to be on a Wednesday afternoon. Everyone advertised for band members in the back of MM, including Fleetwood Mac, Free, Tony Newman, Supertramp, Zoot Money, Atomic Rooster, Python Lee Jackson and many more.
7. But if you'd changed your sound on sound check to one you liked it wouldn't have sounded good for the gig. A sound check is a work in progress till it's done. Then it all starts again when an audience comes in and the band start playing, usually louder than they sound checked. If you're serious add a FOH guy to your band line up.
8. Bergantino NV610
9. I think the TC RH750 is a good amp. I ran one through 2 Berg AE112's and 2 Berg AE210 cabs and the sound was very good with both rigs. But then most amps sound good through Bergantino cabs. I've no experience with the other gear you mention. If it was me I'd take my cabs to the studio and try them out with the TC.
10. You can do that, but what if another song comes along another half step down? Plus trying to squeeze lower notes out of a 4 string doesn't give you any of the other advantages of using a 5 string bass.
11. I play with a guitarist who writes songs with very fast and complicated riff sections. The only way I can play these is to think like a guitarist and use open strings, slides and hammer ons like he does. If you have to play something complicated in Eb and have to use the open strings then you'll need to tune down, but mostly you'll be able to play anything in any key on a 5er without any hassle. IMO it's a no brainer that the extra flexibility of a 5 string bass is an advantage when playing any genre.
12. You want to move forward with your bass playing and you know that there are things you need to do. You're not sure how to get to the next step, so get some help. Have more lessons.
13. Guys, Just got a PM from DH. The band have found a dep. Cheers.
14. I'd try an outboard pre amp.
15. Well, I don't own an MP3 player in the first pace, but I don't understand the concept of playing my favourite songs in a band being a good thing. The last thing I'd want is any band I'm in ruining my favourite songs with "their own arrangement", so I'm happy as long as I'm playing with good players and the set is played well. If those 2 points are satisfied I don't have to like the set list - but the audience does and IMO that's the only success criteria.
16. Who knows. I replied back then and haven't heard anything since. This guy didn't even bother to acknowledge my PM.
17. Make sure your lead is long enough!
18.
At 8 ohms I'd get the TH500.
+1 TH500. No point in buying a lower powered amp for this cab when it might not be loud enough for the next cab. There's a Puma 900 in the classifieds.
19. It's never too soon to get into a band and start gigging. IMO that's the point of playing a musical instrument. Just find the right band and off you go.
20. People don't normally get this much concentrated playing experience, so just make sure you start the next gig where you left off the night before.
21. I'd leave this cab the way it is and rate it at half the watts for bass.
22. There is a Barefaced Big Twin 2 in the Classifieds. All the cab a rock bass player needs to dominate the world.
23. I'd rather play Wembley than the Dog and Duck, every time. Unfortunately the latter seems to be my level these days. Ho hum.
24. Be positive and happy. This is a great time for the band to pull together and become a better unit. +1 for all the eat and drink sensibly and personal hygiene and clean clothes advice. Keep your fingers crossed that someone doesn't start exhibiting strange personal behavior that wasn't evident before. Take a camera.
25. I prefer the sound of a Super Compact and 2 SC cabs sound amazing.
