1. What is the guy you're replacing using?
2. All the reasons for him being there in the first place is why he gets the mention, is the focus of so many news stories and is included in the trailers. I'm not for or against. Like a lot of stuff, it just is.
3. We used to do Stitched Up. Great song. Everyone on that album puts in a stellar performance. Reggie McBride on bass on Love Comes To Town.
4. Ed Sheeran is a spectacularly successful world wide brand. GOT will probably increase it's appeal and reach into audiences that currently don't watch. It's business. Beats me why anyone should have negative thoughts about this or be bothered one way or the other! Popular shows have always cameoed well known people and things. With things it's called product placement, but either way it's always about increasing revenue.
5. Audio taper pots and linear pots for even increase or decrease over the whole range of the movement.
6. I've got all the CD's, seen them twice and shook Cornell's hand at their 100 Club gig. What talented guys! Sadly looks like I've missed them this time!
7. Good move. What amp are you using?
8. If I was cynical I would say that AES makes speakers look sexier by allowing a manufacturer to claim his speaker can handle 1200 watts rather than the 800 watts of the RMS rating.
9. People do notice, if you make them. Tonight's gig was a blues rock trio and the drummer and me got a lot of handshakes for being a "great" rhythm section. We made people notice. Even if an audience doesn't cotton on, the band will know. The very least you have to do is make the band glad you're playing with them and not someone else. Most of my gigs in the last 30 years have come from band leaders seeing me play so there's another great reason to always put 100% effort into every note you play on stage.
10. Careful, there seems to be 2 different measuring systems at work here. The 1200 watts of the 210LNT is not RMS. It's AES which, while it's supposed to be the more accurate figure, is actually less than the RMS figure. A quote I've seen is that 800 watts AES is the equivalent to 600 watts RMS. The RMS figure will be about a third less.
11. You'll have a tough time A/Bing these cabs in a shop. To my knowledge neither Bass Direct or Bass Gear ever carried Barefaced cabs. The last time I was there the Bass Gallery had several different BF cabs in stock.
12. This looks like the version to use if you don't have Berg cabs. I have no doubt it will sound amazing. The B|amp put me off with control managed via screens behind screens. That's not what I want when I need to change something in a 2 bar break on a dark stage. 2 Ohm is good but I wish a moveable HPF was included in the design.
13. I was standing by the desk at Shepherds Bush Empire, many years ago, at a Little Feat gig, featuring Craig Fuller. That's how long ago. They started and the sound was perfect. Clear, well balanced, well defined and a good volume. I watched the FOH guy spend the whole gig "operating" the desk. He never stopped fiddling and the sound went from just like the record to and awful indistinct mush at about 3 times bearable volume. If those guys can't get a sound man who knows what he is doing then what hope is there for anyone else.
14. I sit on mine. . . . but no one else does!!
15. I was being deliberately non committal on which amp would be a good upgrade for you. It's your preferences that matter. My list would contain the Mesa D800+, Aguilar TH500, Genzler MG800 and others. There is a lot of choice out there. In the last 10 years my favourites have been the Thunderfunk 550 and 750's and an Aguilar TH500.
16.
My SVT rig with 8x10 is still the sound I'm chasing, despite having sold it over 20 years ago.
For years I either owned or played through the biggest amps and cabs, but there's no point in looking back. I always look forwards to the best I can sound now and I believe that I'm sounding better than at any time in the past.
17.
Well, to my mind a back up amp has to have a similar output to the amp it is backing up. 200W simply wouldn't be loud enough. But that is for me and my situation.
+1 I'd upgrade from the Eden and let that (the Eden) become the backup. Edit to make sense:
18. I watched the thread when these cabs were designed I'm sure they are excellent pieces of kit. Unfortunately this cab will never make most people's short lists because there aren't enough of them around to get noticed.
19.
I just want something a little better sounding that won't break the bank
I'd suggest you get something a lot better and start sounding good at home. If you leave this band you won't have an amp or cab so I'd suggest you also need to think about that now you're looking at gear. I'd get a 112 and 300-500 watt amp. Then you only need to add another 112 to start gigging with your own gear.
20. As I said in those threads, if you think that BF cabs are fragile you haven't done your homework. And bertbass is correct.
21. At this level of gear better doesn't exist. These are some of the best cabs made. Your personal preference will be what decides you to pick one over the other. I'd also add Bergantino to the list.
22. I don't mind 2 or more guitarists. How well they play is the deciding factor for me. Unfortunately and economics these days invariably means there's only 1 guitarist on the gig.
23. Currently under offer. Cheers Chris
24. When the gen 1 Compact, the one that travelled around the country in the early days, came back to Alex it wasn't much good for anything so he crash tested it by throwing it down a 1 story flight of stairs a couple of times. He did tell me how many time before it broke and I've forgotten, but it was far in excess of anything even the Who (in their heyday) would do to a cab. If it's done properly, light does not equal weak.
25.
Am I wrong?
Yes. If the band wants more bass. . . . step up and bloody well give it to them!
