1. Most of my stuff is lightweight now, having had the usual Ampeg 2x210, Aguilar 2x12, Trace 15s etc over the years. I used a Trace 4x10 AH150 combo in the early 90s and refurbished another one 2 years ago - I couldn't lift it! Had to go. The question that springs to mind is - Why is it so important to have to bring all your gear in one load from the car these days? Is it so important that you don't have to go to the car even once more for a cab or your bass, mic stand, leads etc? It now seems to be a yardstick by which many measure the 'lightweight' setup.(Very prevalent on another Bass site). I can understand this if you use public transport, but if you drive yourself? BTW, this is a genuine question - not looking to criticise anyone. In my own case, I carry a Markbass 121H combo, double gig bag, mic stand, leads bag, spare Markbass F1 head in a laptop bag, and a 12 EV active monitor. That's not too bad in my book and suits me and the band setup that I'm in. I'm 57. BTW, I'm a big fan of the capability of new neo drivers. It's a revelation in bass capability.
2. Bought a Vanderkley cab from Marc and had it shipped to Ireland. Excellent guy to deal with! Item was exactly as described and really well packaged. Top class communication too. Extremely accommodating regarding the collection day and time. Very easy deal! Highly recommended. Cheers Marc. Love the cab!
3. Ok thanks. Let me know the weight when you get a chance
4. Is that an alder body? What weight approx? Just a question: what is the difference between the American special model and the standard?
5. My favourite setup in the past for P bass was two Ampeg SVT210HE classic cabs with either an Ashdown MAG400 or different Trace Elliots. Still have the heads but looking to see if anyone has tried the SVT112s. Any experience with them? Have used a lot of neo cabs Markbass, GK, Genz etc but none gave me what I was looking for.
6. Very little to be seen online regarding reviews. Anyone buy or try these? Interested in opinions. Looking towards a ceramic 12 as I can't seen to get the sound I want from neo speakers for my P Bass. Just looking for opinions but not trying to debate neo v ceramic. Thanks!
7.
I think we are on the verge of a slight shift. I think tube pre with transformer power stage heads are going to be to the weapon of choice for the next few years (look at the drooling over the Hand Box amps). I agree at a certain something lacking with class D heads, and am in the process of trying to negotiate my amp situations at the moment. Now I'm not saying that going and humping about a peavey TNT 15" combo is a clever idea, but if you are getting all warm and fuzzy about trace Elliott, then go for it. Hey yourself a trace head, but get yourself a decent lightweight cab. It is cool to rock up with an amp in a handbag, but in reality we can all manage a 10kg head. I for one would love to hear a trace head through a neo 212 cab. They were highly regarded back in the day, I'd love to see how they stack up now!
I know what you mean. In my own experience, I've struggled to get a P Bass to sound good through Genz, Markbass, Gk and even EBS neo cabs. Plugged into a Peavey TNT 115 2weeks ago and there was the sound I wanted. Bet rig I had was two Ampeg SVT 210he with an Ashdown head. Thinking about heading that way again.
8. I used two of the older SVT 210HE cabs with different heads and it was great. Particularly with an ashdown head. Sounded tubey. Those two cabs were portable but still had a big sound.
9. Beautiful. Tried one of these recently in London. Superior to others in my book.
10. As with most questions, the answer leads towards "It depends" For me, it was always about combinations of Bass/Head/Cab, and I didn't worry too much about the wattage. Using a Markbass F1 through a Genz Nx2 at the moment and it sounds good with an old active Warwick Streamer Stick in a passive bass though, and it’s a lot harder to get a good sound. Volume - yes. Tone - not so easy. Replace the head with either my Ashdown Mag400 or Trace AH350 & 250smx or even an old AH150 and I get ‘Authority’! Love them all for different reasons. 11. Not travelling to Ireland for a holiday? Would love to take this off you. Great condition.
12. Really sorry to hear that, Col. GLWS. Look after your health.
13. Thanks Guys, sounds like a great bass with a ton of sound options. It probably soundsjust like I expected it to and looks gorgeous into the bargain. Wish i could move on it just now........
14. What's the Pickup and EQ spec / configuration? How would you describe the sound on it?
15. Is it just the Bart pups or does it have the bart preamp as well? Cheers
16. Just bought a bass from Col. First time buying through BC. Great transaction and excellent communication. Bass exactly as described and packaged really well for the trip to Ireland. Highly recommended. Thanks again Col. Love the bass
17. Say no to the Missus! I do it every few months for my collection. You can enjoy hours of nostalgia when you retire.
18. I would just try another cab, even if you have to borrow one or bring the head to a store to try a few. I've never owned the SVT410hlf but it appears to be a common characteristic of that cab to have tons of low end and shy mids. Cutting through is all about the mids and the Trace should easily cope with that. I've had a lot of Trace heads and they cut through very easily, although sounded different with different cabs. Worth a try?
19. I had a 410TX for years and that was the main issue I stopped using it - no mids. They are known for that. There apparently is a mod that can be done to bypass the inductor on the input panel to make it more 'full range' as the mids are apparently suppressed. If you google it you should find it. May be a cheap way to solve the problem. Won't make it any lighter though! Otherwise a great cab that can take tons of juice and not fart out.
20.
If that happened to the most popular Fender designs, it would either; 1) Crack the scratchplate (precision) 2) Bend the pot shafts (Jazz)
I know.....just a little joke
21. Dare i say it......if that happened to a Fender, it would be called 'Mojo'. It's a funny ol' rock'n'roll world...... Any experienced guy should be able to rectify this. Good luck with the repair.
22. What type of cab did you use them in and what 'tone' did you get?
