  1. You'd need to figure out why they blew in the first place? Could you be in that situation again if you replaced them with the identical drivers? Of course, there is always the issue of tone to consider. Those Trace drivers had a particular tone which could possibly change with the 200w celestion.
  2. Interesting! I recently bought the same combo EVO III. Initially I was looking for something smaller for a duo than my Ashdown Mag400 (2001 Red head which is great) and 2 x 2x10 that I use in a band setting. I took the combo in a trade but thought that the sound was only 'OK' and the volume with a P Bass was as you describe. However, it coincided with me getting one of the Kappalite 3015 15" speakers to experiment with in another cab. Anyway, I fitted it to the Ashdown today and very impressed!. Sounds much louder, due to better efficiency than the blueline speaker, and the frequency response seems much more even. I also have a Nathan East NE-1 preamp that I intend to use with the P Bass to boost the input slightly eliminate the need for another cab at gigs. I suppose there are a few ways for you to increase volume - it depends on how much gear you want to carry. On 15's - I've never tried 2 together, but some people love them. Like the post above, go to BFM's site and there is much to be learned on this subject
  3. What is the origin of the neck? Love P Basses, but the neck profile is a 'make or break' situation for me.
  4. It's such a pity that the fretless 4 for sale / trade in my ads is 1. A Sterling 2. Unlined, and 3. wait for it... BLUE. But it's a beauty and if you feel like falling in love with my bass and considering a trade, it would be great! Nice Warwick!
  5. Sorry Dub Junkie, didn't see the post. Yeah, it cuts through really well and the Sterling neck size is great. I'm not a fretless player at all so would make use of a fretted much more - even another Sterling. Cheers
  6. For SALE or TRADE - Sterling Fretless Beautiful bass. In really excellent condition, almost as new. Dates from around 2002. I bought it a few years ago and never used it as I'm not really a fretless player, so have decided to move it on and buy something else. The usual 3 band eq and pickup phasing selector - parallel, series and singlecoil modes. Sparkle / Metallic type gloss finish. Really nice small neck for those who do not like the larger neck of the stingray. Very punchy sound. C/w genuine Musicman case. Based in Ireland but can courier. Looking for 975 euro ( Approx £840 ) I know that cash is very tight with all of us, so my interests are Fender P Basses and Warwicks, so will consider trades etc. Trades - What have you? not into 5s or Jazzes.
  7. H Folks, Hopefully someone can help on this one. I have recently picked up a late 80's Trace 4x10 combo which I believe to be model 1110. It has the AH150 head with the GP11 preamp and the white toggles. The unit contains 4 x 50 watt speakers and has the red racing stripes across the centre of the vented cab. Anyway, one of the drivers is fried, but the other 3 sound great. Hence, I would like to replace the blown one with something that is comparable in efficiency, wattage etc. the only markings are a 'Made in England' stamp and a handwritten sticker with 'C1008 8ohm 50watt' written on it. I understand that TE used either Fane or Celestion back in those days. Does anyone know which this might be? The dust cap on the front is bigger than was on the later 32ohm drivers that had 'Trace Elliot' printed on them. Any ideas? the Fane website lists a 'Sovereign 10-125' that looks ok-ish Cheers
  8. Agree with Fretmeister I have a MAG400 red front for the last 7 years and it sounds great in all situations. Don't listen to any of the Ashdown bashing that you will see in various forums. It greatly depends on the cab, bass, strings, choice of music combination etc.
  9. I have an '87 Warwick Streamer neckthrough which is definitely one of my favourites and would not think of selling it - very slim neck, light cherry body wings, PJ pups - great on a 2 hour gig. However, I had a Streamer Jazzman 4 for a few years and while very versatile, I found it to be a bit compressed in the lows and had too chunky a neck for me, so traded it on. I am a great Fender fan also, specifically P basses. From personal experience, I have made the mistake of buying a bass and expecting it to sound like a Fender. Warwicks are different in a great way IMHO and now I just enjoy the difference and use each bass for the occasion that most suits it. Great advice above - Go and try them. Like Fenders, some appeal and some don't. Althought the Stage II is arguably the cream of the crop. Good luck in the search!
