How does a speaker make more than one sound at a time ?
Spoombung replied to essexbasscat's topic in Amps and Cabs
The speaker emits a complex waveform that contains the two notes, plus components equal to the sum and the difference of their frequencies. So you do also get a 675Hz note and a 195Hz note. Do you ever tune up using harmonics or 5th fret and open string? That low frequency that you hear is the beat frequency - the note produced by the difference of the two principle notes.
Ah, I'm starting to understand now. So the 'components' are other frequencies? The 'beat' created by two notes is also a 'note'? I still don't understand waveform depiction like the type you get on computers; is there any way you can tell how many 'notes' (for example) there are just by the visual interpretation? Perhaps that's where the confusion is; the visual interpretation seems to only represent one note peaks when it obviously contains many harmonics..? -
[sub]Seems logical after his AFR series and Ibanez connections. One uK retailer claims to have the Grooveline in stock BTW http://www.fairdealm...ez-g104-nt.html[/sub]
Yep. Tried one at the bass show - loved the ergonomics but it was he same old Ibanez, inbetweeny, generic sound. Still too expensive to persuade me toward a purchase, though, so I'm keeping an eye out for any mods they do to the design, ie, better pickups and a return to the slimmer SR neck ( the grooveline has a fatter neck) -
Spotted this on Steve Moses' Facebook page; Percy playing an Ibanez Grooveline. Why am I not surprised at this?

3 Different Pickups
Spoombung posted a topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
[s]Wizard single coil 4 string. This is the '64' vintage style. Bridge position. Dry and biting tone (to my ears). £30[/s][s] posted[/s]. SOLD EMG HZ Passive 4-string. Clear and transparent in a Hi-fi way. £35 posted SGC 4-string. Bridge position. This was removed from my Bass Collection bass. These were made especially for this bass. I not sure if this is a humbucker or single coil, but my guess is humbucker as it looks 'stacked' or taller than a single coil and is noisless. The sound is rounded and full with a slightly subdued top end. £20 posted All three pickups require mounting screws. Kev -

This is one of the most interesting questions I've ever seen asked on Basschat. Some great answers... -
This is getting too highbrow for me Eude
I'll simplify it for you, Eude:
-
Surely we must also consider the socio-cultural anthropological reasons for choosing the bass guitar before we can truly consider the impact on the musicians in question...?
According to the concept of transformational evolution, first clearly articulated by Lamarck, evolution consists of the gradual transformation of one bass guitar state to another.
-
Ha ha, I guess some would argue the development of "the claw" is the body evolving to fit the bass...
Well, any evolutionary biologist would agree you can't create a model of evolutionary divergence without first considering the impact of the bass guitar.
I'd seriously recommend trying out a flat board and the asymmetrical profile, I have them on both my basses and it feels very natural. Even if the flat board isn't for you, the asymmetrical profile is much better for your hand as it allows it to fall into a much more natural shape while playing, great for avoiding things like carpal tunnel syndrome etc. Eude
Yeah, but carpal tunnel syndrome is an elegant solution to a neck with a symmetrical profile.
Awesome bass, and awesome playing Meester Spoombung
Thanks, Eude. The only mistake I made with the spec was not thinking about where the dots on the side go, so the bass is back with Alan and I've asked him to move the dots under the fretmarkers rather than having them in the middle. It's amazing how bad my eyes are now, I'm sorry to say. I just cannot see the fretlines in anything but bright sunlight so I'll have to rely on the dots. Visual guides have become more of a priority in my middle age. I didn't anticipate that.

Kent Armstrong Soapbar Pickup: any opinions/experience?
Spoombung replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
Can't speak for that pickup specifically but I have KA soapbars in my current Sei and prefer them to the Barts I've had in the others. They seem very open with a good output; they don't seem to colour the sound of the instrument as much as the Barts (which appears to be the general consensus)and somehow seem more balanced sonically. They certainly suit me, although YMMV. If I was having another Sei or similar built I'd have KAs in it.
Thanks. do you know the exact model? 'KA Soapbar' is the just Kent armstrong soapbar - like the pic above, isn't it?
