  1. That's Black Watch tartan, which anyone can wear. Lydon always plays by the rules, 😉 he's an aristo after all.
  2. I had (still have!) green doc to underline my eco credentials.
  3. Still doing your best to hide behind that big violin thing...
  4. I know I'm a bit late to teh part, but if you are canvassing for opinions...
  5. I've got to dress for a publicity photo next week. I suggested wearing stripey spandex but the guitarist thought I was joking.
  6. Johnny Fingers went to Japan where he is a successful writer and producer.
  7. The Americans used to count the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as punk...
  8. But I'm 100% sure Bob Geldoff really did play the sax solo on a candelabra.
  9. One of these day I will be able to get my little combo with four 3" speakers out of the container it's stored in. A very random design, but sounds OK, especially since I pulled most of the wadding out of it!
  10. Tonic for the Troops is a firkin' masterpiece. 'nuff said.
  11. This is the beast: http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=EMILEGBP102&browsemode=category I didn't think of going to Eminence, using the proper name: https://www.eminence.com/pdf/Legend_BP102.pdf
  12. Would it make a significant difference if I dowelled the boards together so I could leave out the battens to save weight?
  13. Wait! - are these the dimensions for the easy build 10"? They were in black on dark grey and hard to read* so first time I just assumed they were more text... What are the port dimensions for the 10" version? the panels for the cab are 2x 374mmx290mm, 2 450mmx 290mm and 2 450mmx350mm (all 12mm ply) the front baffle is set back 30mm to allow for the grille so internally the cab is 350mmx450mmx236mm. the ports are made of drainpipe/downpipe which is 64mm internal diameter 160mm long *Yellow on blue is the most legible colour combination, if not the most pleasant.
  14. I don't see the cab dimensions anywhere, just that it is the same s th2 12" Easy build, but I went tro taht thread and there no easily found link to the dimensions of that either. I do wish people would edit the first post to include a download of the dimensions 🙂
  15. Ahh.... it's reappeared:
  16. I'd have ago at a design but WinISD keeps coming up with strange results, like a cabinet of over a million litres! That's what it suggests for an Eminenece 102 for a vented enclosure and default chebeshev design. ... ah just tried again and It's come up with a 16.5 litre box, but the curve -3dB point is about 110Hz - this is a speaker with a resonance of 35Hz claimed to work down to 40Hz. What is going on? Edit - I was choosing B102 instead of Legend BP102. Now the -3dB point is at 42Hz and the volume is 106 litres which looks a little big but potentially doable. 10cm x 10cm x10cm is a litre = 1 cubic decimetre. 5^3 is 125. so a 50cm cube would be 125litres, so if using thos external dimensions and 13mm ply... Internal volume would be 4.74^3 = 106.4 litres A 50cm cube with the front inset 1cm would be about 105 litres. WinISD suggests a vent 10cm x 9.03cm long. Any skilled WinISD joockeys want to check these figures or suggest a better driver*? *Particularly one happy in a smaller box.
  17. Funnily enough, I'm considering a TE Elf as a backup amp. The logical next step is a decent, compact 10" cab or a 2x8" or even 1x8" for practice and maybe things like backing acoustic folk, but capable of coping with the 120W of the Elf (into 8 ohms). The TE 2x8 is pointless - it weighs as much as my 2x12. And teh 1x10 is expensive enough to make a home build appealing - I like making such things. So I, too, tried finding an EASY 10" CAB BUILD thread this morning. Haven't got further than browsing Eminence and Beyma drivers.
  18. I will bring a rear ported cab to the Midlands Bass Bash. People can decide if it's inadequate for themselves 🙂
  19. First thing discussed when joining new bands. No embarrassment, perhaps because we are all jabbed.
  20. I can't see the wall...
  21. After a week of frustration waiting for a Bass Terror, I cancelled and ordered from PMT and got next day delivery. So now I have a Bass Terror sitting on top of a GR Bass AT212 slim cab. Modern tech and vintage sound 🙂 For those who are unfamiliar with the Bass Terror, it's a 500W RMS class D amp with a twin valve (12AX7 and 12AT7) preamp designed to sounds like the Orange AH200 all-valve bass head.. The 'unclean' setting gives a lovely classic Orange growl which is exactly the sound I wanted to get, ideal for the blues rock 'power trio'. The clean setting seems to be what it says and should allow me to get the range of sounds I need for the covers band using my pedalboard. Is it loud enough? Well, I've got the master volume at absolute minimum AND the 6dB pad switched in with a passive bass, and it's still a bit too loud for bedroom practice. Quarter volume sounds loud enough for band practice, and that's with the 6dB pad still switched in. I did consider the Little Bass Thing (which seems to be a basschat favourite) but I'd swap having a proper gain control and the very convincing sound of a two-valve preamp for valve compression any day. Came with a lovely padded bag (big embroidered Oraneg logo) with shoulder strap etc. The only downside is that it feels a lot heavier than 4.6kg/10lbs, possibly because it is so compact. My prediction was that this would be the dog's danglies, and it seems to be delivering.
  22. Is it true he once stood in on bass for Steel Pulse? Alfie Noakes is better than no dread. ... I'll get my coat.
