IME everything I have tried at a Guitar Guitar has been reasonably well set up, but I would always tweak any guitar or bass to suit my own preferences. Most decent shops depend on having one or more members of staff who play the stock and tweak them if required. Last badly set up bass I played was in PMT, think it was an Ibby Talman. Before that it was an acoustic bass in a local shop - they took it off me and brought it back five minutes later after a truss rod adjustment and it was vastly better.

Hmmm... Mariah, Whitney and Ronnie James Dio are/were exceptional and well taught singers. Give me someone who can do vocal fireworks naturally and in tune any day ghastly over-auto-tuned warbling.

It's cheaper to change your name by deed poll (£42.44) than to change your number plate (£80). -

If I was called Lionel I wouldn't draw attention to it... So that's how you came to be called XWG 978 P. -
Anyone ruptured a tendon in their plucking hand?
Stub Mandrel replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
At least you've got a great excuse to give people the finger... My pulled tendon is not recovering very fast, it still twinges, the hand works but I can't pull my fingertips into my palm with any force. -

Because the centre of gravity is above the pivot point. Any tiny movement will cause it to fall, one way or the other, even if perfectly balanced. Seriously though, this means 'neck dive' when sitting is a matter of degree and much affected by posture and how you grip the bass. Now when supported on a strap, it's different. The Thunder 1 to my right balances with the neck pointing up at 45 degrees when supported by the strap on the upper horn only. It's utterly immune to neck dive when I'm standing, but still drops when 'balanced' on my knee. If that bass won't balance on a knee without a hand supporting and stabilising it, none will. -

No. The patchouli and mushrooms, Afghans and Labcoats were Hawkwind. -

When is classic rock not classic rock?

Thing is, what would have been proposed for a definition of 'classic rock' on the late 80s/90s leads to it being open-ended. The new bands coming through are very much in the template of early 70s to NWOBHM rock bands from the choice of instruments and arrangements to the t-shirts, denim and leather... But like any broad musical category it's going to have very fuzzy edges, although to join the NWOCR facebook group you have to sign in blood that you won't discuss pre-2010 bands... -

I've known people with body dysmorphia and anorexia. I know someone very well with 'chaotic eating' (binge - restrict, rather than classic binge-purge), less destructive but adds to various burdens as well as being a source of anxiety in itself. I think I have a tendency to myself - I can eat enormous quantities of food when I'm unhappy or stressed, but find crash dieting gives me a very comforting feeling of control when the rest of life all seems to be out of control. Although I've not been below the top end of my health BMI range for decades. My obsession is with hitting my ideal weight 13 stone, which is actually a very healthy one for me. The trigger was getting poor cholesterol and BP results so I decided to drop just over 1 1/2 stone and did it in a couple of months, aside from a few short periods I've stayed down at around 13 for nearly four years and I feel much fitter. I used to be naturally very thin ( 6' 2" and 11 stone) until my late 20s despite being a big eater, I feel much happier with another two stone on). It was quite scary when I realised I was cruising aisles in the supermarket looking at things I would love to eat but wasn't going to let myself have... I have no desire to get that thin again, but it is disturbing to have this 'dialogue' with food that can almost become a negotiation, and it is very easy to understand how people can struggle with anorexia, bulimia and even over-eating. -

I love real Record Vices (pre-Irwin 🙂 ) I have a No. 3 and was delighted to spot a Record No. 1 in Dad's... living room. Hopefully the huge 4" QR vice I used as a teenager is somewhere in Dad's workshop.

I'd make the rebate deeper and face it with solid wood but grain vertical. But I'm a metal basher so don't trust my wood vice advice...

Just an observation, but any bass balanced on a knee (unless suspended by a strap) is in unstable equilibrium. Plus, balancing a bass on your knee is very uncomfortable and not conducive to good playing, consider balancing it on your thigh instead. Note, any bass balanced on a thigh (unless suspended by a strap) is in unstable equilibrium. -
