  1. I just realised @Geek99 was saying it isn't <£200. My laugh reaction above was because I thought he was saying it's not solid-bodied. Which would have been a very clever pun. Apologies to @6feet7 if you thought I was being rude about your price. I'm not - I'm still trying to justify buying it.
  2. I have played @Mottlefeeder's bass at a couple of bass Bashes, and these are really nice acoustic basses. In fact they are probably the only acoustic I would actually want to buy. Seriously tempted. I have already spent this year's gear budget, and I don't have anything I could easily sell, but still ... 🤔
  3. There is quite a lot of Covid in Birmingham, and round West Brom. If you need to wear a mask on stage then get a tie-dye one to match a 'Dudes t-shirt, or a grinning skull for a punk band. 😉
  4. Where was he in Brum?? I get the emails from most of the venues and had no idea he was in town.

    Hello

. Welcome aboard! May I recommend StudyBass.com as an overlooked site for beginners? Great lessons on theory and proper technique Very structured, short but informative lessons, and entirely free. You can chose to pay for additional lessons but I didn’t. Scottd Bass Lessons is a marmite site. Annual subscription is around £80, but the academy is very good. It is a school though, so to get the benefits you need to follow the courses even if you don't like the style of music. Most of all - just Enjoy yourself, and if you can find others to play with, that's the best way to get better and to really have fun !
  6. This place? https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/ Looks lime a great place to kill a couple of hours!
  7. I have one from the gig in Brum in August. I've threatened to wear it next time I'm playing in church on Sunday morning. 😄
  8. Not heard that since I don't know when! That's what I like about this thread, always interesting and a good mix. Where else would I listen to a bit of grunge, followed by jazz fusion, funk, and then straight ahead US rock? Thanks to everyone who posts on here.
  9. Hope your better half recovers fully, Andy. And we'll just have to wait a fortnight for the next installment 🙃
  10. Two on the top and one on each ear. This has been really interesting at the level of detail provided in this thread (thank you @agedhorse). However I can easily see how the full specs would become soul-destroying. What are the practical implications for home-brew equipment?
  11. But beautifully cut and casseroled with carrots, onions and mushrooms.
  12. It drives me mad! But i- t does show up where my timing is sloppy and I need to lock better with the drummer. I have it in the IEM for rehearsal, but more kick/snare for the service.
  13. That is going to make a good noise. See you at the Midlands Bash next year and we can have an exhaust shoot out 🤣
  14. Welcome aboard! Yep, accuracy! I know the feeling when for no apparent reason you stretch too far and hit Eb instead of E and that C chord run suddenly becomes Cm. Most annoying. I have recently gone right back to basics on technique. I practice chords arpeggios and scale runs slowly, and have found this made a big difference. Slowly means really slowly, one note per second max, and really thinking about the finger positioning. As someone who also plays almost exclusively in church, I find that "If in doubt, simplify" is a great moto. The congregation aren't there to listen, they're there to sing, and most of them genuinely don't notice the bass unless it stops altogether, so if you find yourself making mistakes you can really dial back. Check out the techniques pages, and do hop over to the Playing in Church thread too. But don't stop playing.
  15. So what is it?? And is it more practical for carrying basses than a 2006 Jag XK?
  16. I am really sorry to have missed this one, but other Sunday morning commitments had to take precedence. Looks like a lot of fun, and there were a few basses I would love to have tried, as well as lots of people I wanted to meet. Here's what I would have brung.
  17. I can take less than zero credit for the bass repair! The wonderful Folderol on that forum did the work. It does seem a strange design all round! I was very active on SoS for a few years when I did a lot of FOH and live recording and mixing. Once I had borrowed that bass though, and had a first lesson with a bassist at church who said "yep, you're a bass player ", I was hooked. My friend had offered to give me that bass a couple of years back, but his son had already nabbed it. I hope I still have at least first refusal if he ever sells it
  18. Gosh! I started that thread on SOS, and I am struggling to believe it was 2018 when I first borrowed that bass and started to "play" ! I would have hoped in 5 years my playing would have improved more! I am not an electronis engineer, but if it helps anyone I have posted the original and final circuit diagrams below. Original: Final:
  19. @Andyjr1515 - did your friend record any sound clips? And is he still going to sleep every night with that gorgeous instrument beside him?
  20. Step away from the keyboard, and back to the fretboard... Or, if you live in a scenic bit of Yorkshire, get the boots on and go for a long stomp before the weather turns and you're forced to stay indoors and practice. 🥾
  21. I had no recollection of this when it started until "See one, feel one, touch one" and I instantly remembered the next line "win an award", and the subsequent riff. Which demonstrates that the important thing in pop is a great hook. I do like your cover version. This would be a fun one live! Although nobody under 55 would get the references you can get everyone singing the chorus, and change the verses around depending on what's topical.
  22. If he really thinks that John Entwistle bass is worth a hundred grand, then surely it wouldn't be just on display so easily bashed?
