1. Just bought a 121P, looking forward to trying it against my big rig.
2.
I agree it does appear to be the two named manufacturers that have suffered most but is this a fact or just a misconception? I realise the 'credit crunch' is hitting everyone and everything but are there other manufacturers that are hit as bad as EB & 'W' re. the OP question. Pre EB will bump the price as will the fact that it is a 'good un' but a major chunk of that value is the fact that the retailer has premises to upkeep so it will have his profit margin built in and don't forget that even on used retail goods there is still VAT to be added! That came as a bit of a shock to me when I asked if a store would handle a commission sale for me... unless they were blowing smoke up my backside
Oh without doubt, the retailer has their costs, and in London those costs can be ridiculously high, I was still surprised at £1500 for a similar bass to mine. I did understand about the pre-EB thang (one of the reasons I bought mine), but I am sure it would not attract anywhere near that on here or the evilbay. Whoever buys it will get one hell of a bass though regardless of the price.
3. Having watched the sales of a few Rays on Basschat of late I had the impression that prices of secondhand ones are dropping. Imagine my surprise when visiting the Bass Gallery to find an identical spec' 78 Ray to my own one being offered at £1500. It was in imacculate condition and a superb bass (I played it). But given prices I have seen elsewhere for other Rays it did seem a little pricey. What do you guys think? Am I missing something?
4.
Lucky amp? I live at Córdoba, the hottest city in Spain, where we usually suffer 115F during summer UNDER SHADOW, and sometimes even more! This combo is gonna hate me as much as he is gonna miss the cool UK!!!
It is from Italy, it should be used to it! I just bought the 1x12 combo and it is here in Malta with me for a brief stop before it goes with me to Libya where it will live. Sure hope it likes hot weather.
5. Hartke Attax Pedal - the shape control really fattens things up, but................ seeing as how you have such a good setup to start with, it might be all too much and just sound worse. This is kind of what happened to me when I upgraded a while ago.
6.
Don't ask silly questions mate
Indeed - have a holiday in Libya or Malta and make sure you have the spare £375 spending money and save on the delivery! Why did I not think of that? Brilliant!
7. On the issue of delivery, I will be back in London last week of July and can have the bass with me then if anyone is interested. come on folks £375 for this beauty - I'm cuttin' me own throat 'ere..............!
8. Wow - always wanted one of these when they first came out - I still think the headstock is fab'. No longer on my shopping list but good luck with the sale.
9.
Heh, when I was discussing with Chris how to mount to ramp he asked "are you going to keep the bass for the forseeable future" and I of course said "yes". He suggested, since that was the case, to just route a space for it making it completely adjustable........hindsight is twenty twenty I guess! I think it looks great anyway and difference really is the spice of etc.
Bump with a question Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "Ramp" when it is at home? I am guessing aslap related thing or maybe a finger rest? Sorry but never come across this before Biggus
10.
Read the whole thread, would you? Everyone was telling me I was wrong to set a starting price, and that that price was too low, so I changed it to an asking price. You can't have it both ways. I do realize its value, I just wasn't expecting to be looked at like a mug, and accused of misleading people, just because I don't know the unwritten rules involved in selling something on this particular forum. For example, where did I say "first dibs"? I always intended to give people enough time to come here, take a look, and make a sensible offer - but that's wrong, apparently.
Well for what it is worth, I do not believe anybody has done anything harmful or willfully misleading here, and £900 is still a fair price for this stick. good luck with the sale.
11.
Not sure if it's safe to tell this story as it was a guitar, not a bass, but:
Mine happened to a 6 string acoustic epiphone that had managed to travel halfway around europe and back via Morrocco and Syria without any damage except some pick scuffing on the pick guard - got it home and had it on a stand in the lounge. Upon returning from the local ale establishment one fine summer's eve I decided to have a quick play on one of the electrics ranged like hunting trophies on the wall. The combination of too much fine ale and the intrinsic pointiness of a Flying-V soon resulted in an ugly hole in the side of the Epi'. Still got it and it still plays fine - 25 year old guitar with a 16 year old hole!
12. I have a pre (quite early) and a post (quite recent) although the newer one has a Status Graphite Neck. Both excellent sounding. However the pre is unbelievably heavy and I can now only play it sitting down due to back problems (it may have been the cause of them). I can only echo the previous comment that for investment get an early one and for reliability comfort etc. a latter one is best. Depends what pushes your buttons.
13.
Kinda looks like the photo's are squashed!
= Know what you mean, but I can asure you they are not - just one quirky design that I think works very well once in your hands.
14.
That's a new one on me. Never seen one before and I bet I'll likely not see another in a long while (steps back and watches for buses). Did J Hellborg have anything to do with the design? I'm sure I remember him being associated with Status and that shape just seems to ring bells with his name attached!
Dunno - but I bet you would get an interesting reply from Rob Green at Status Graphite should you enquire - I hated it when I first saw it in Guitarist magazine, but my wife persuaded me to take a second look - good girl!
15. Played her last night at a full blown band rehearsal with big PA etc. I had to pull back the top end of the EQ quite extensiveley compared to the StatusRay but the bottom end also needed reigning in a tad on the EQ. Found myself slapping & popping in places I had never thought of before; coz you can with this one. I know it is early days but I have to say this is quite the most wonderful bit of kit I have ever had the pleasure to own. Arms and legs currently up for grabs to justify the cost, but at least I did not have to pay the VAT as it came straight to Libya. Now I really, really need a better set of cabinets, but getting those out here is truly expensive due to the shipping costs, so I suspect I shall remain frustrated for some time. The rest of the band already think I am too loud anyway! Sod them all - a bass as good as this needs to be heard.
16. Here is my latest baby, and she is wonderful!
17. I know this is but one aspect of cabinet performance, but who do you think makes the most efficient cabinets? I need something small light and loud - yes so does everyone else!
18. You will probably get a mixed reaction to the cab' decision as well! There a lot here who are great Peavey supporters as well
19. Maybe I should rethink my bargain price of £375 that mine (Grabber) is going for in the for sale section here - except not a lot of responses when I had it at £400 and what I have seen going on ebay have all been in this region. I do now have interest in it by the way from someone who has been involved in this thread.
20. Bump as it is well past New Year now - Any interest?
21. Ah if only it were a four string, but then you would not be selling it would you? Tried a 4 when at the factory last month, very nice indeed. Good luck very nice machine for those 5 players out there - go on guys 'n' gals you know you need this!
22. " Rob Green is an absolute genius! " Yes he is, isn't he? How much is a killer price these days in Chicago
