1. I think configuration is more of a problem than scale length - by that I mean where the body hangs from the strap is one thing but where the bridge and nut lie relative to your shoulders can sometimes cause difficulties. For example my RD artist seems a long way off to the left compared to my stingray, similarily (in fact much worse) is my firebird, everyone who plays it as well as me, seems to find themselves 2 frets out unless they concentrate. And on both RD and F/bird the tuners are a real stretch. At 5'6" the height and arm thing are not as important as the layout methinks. Looking forward to getting hold my new hohner from burpster next week - that should be a whole new experience!
 2.
Ah, from what i remember it looks a bit like one of sting's basses. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having it back to play on, one of the best fours I have ever tried and it's a bloody encore!
Mine looks like this
 3.
Biggus, You will of course have seen Lemmies Ric 4001? That carved top behemoth, thats you that is!
AAAAAAAARGH - my nightmare come true - hope she doesnt spot that priceless seventies Shaftesbury Rickenfaker under the bed in Lincoln and decide to give me a lovely surprise!!!!!!!
 4. Someone earlier said that not just musicians get GAS and I must agree. My wife gets it for anything to do with lettering (pens, ink, pencils, parchment, marble, chisels - the list goes on and on). Of course she is also partial to the occasional pair of shoes and a handbag but normally restricts herself to no more than one of each per week. When we flew back to Libya this week we had accumulated 125Kg of hold baggage between us and this time I did not actually get any new instruments, something of a record for me. My only problem is that she keeps on wanting me to buy horrible guitars and basses "because it looks good" normally because it is made from some outlandish material or finished in some extreme colour or texture. She just does not appreciate a fine piece of wood unless she can chisel a line of verse into it! So far I have managed to deflect all persuasions to purchase lime green perspex stratocasters, but am seriously worried as she has started carving letters in marble and Welsh slate. What will be the nextr suggestion - Fender Custom Shop Telecaster Limestone Cowboy Ltd Edition Bass? Does she not realise I have a bad back?
 5. Hi everyone, and many thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to try the Hohner steinberger-a-like sticky thing courtesy of a fellow basschatter and see how I get on from there. One of the restrictions with being in a country like Libya is there is hardly any choice of stuff to try and one has to go on other people's recomendations, so all the opinions are very useful, thanks again. If I can get used to the very small body size I might be paying Status a visit next time I am in the UK to try out their new Streamline with a view to ordering one, but that is far too far into the future! For now, my Grabber is the lightest thing I have so that will see action for the time being. The 70's 'Ray is staying in its wall hanger. Please keep going on the thread if you want to it is still interesting. Biggus
 6.
My first bass was number 184 (from what i remember) of 185, 1994-1995 limited edition, it was an ash p bass with a red tort pickguard. Lovely playing bass, actually far too good for the money. I donated it to my niece to learn on a few months ago.
I have a 1994 Ltd edition Encore p-bass 068 of 300 sounds similar
 7.
Just to add a thought from left field... The amount of force taken in a particular place in your back is dependent not only on the weight of your bass but also on your posture and technique. Nothing to say you shouldn't get a lighter bass but also consider a consultation or two with a physio ... or maybe an Alexander Technique teacher
Had physio, haven't tried Alexander though. Looking like I will need an operation soon though.
 8.
HI! Up for grabs here is a Japanese built lightweight active precision Lyte Deluxe bass. 9.
Humn HSC lock destruction.. I just did that too yesterday...... Let me know where your mate gets teh locks please I need two now....! BC looks 'Well 'ard!" nice one......!
Me too, I have loads of cases and travel all the time, usually with a different bass each time so could do with decent locks now they do not allow me to take a bass in a gig bag in the cabin of the aircraft unless you buy it a seat!
 10.
Steiny Cricket bat. Easy to repair and replace. And far better than alot of these Diet models, you see about.
I take it you mean a steinberger? Arent they a bit pricey? If not, where can I find one? Cheers
 11. Folks my Doctor says I need to lghten the load on my back as it has some serious problems. So the 70's stingray will go on the wall, and the 2005 'Ray will only be used for gigs (once or twice per month) But I need something ultralight for all those rehearsals and jams. What is really light without being godawful? Hohner steinberger replica? Your experiences are required Cheers Biggus
 12. Hi Higgie I'll take the WOBO2 looper and the Dunlop 105Q off of you £100 the pait shipped?

 14. Lets be fair, the sound guy never puts you high enough in the mix and you have to have a few hundred watts in reserve so you can turn up a bit and hear yourself onstage after it has all started! Seriously though, efficient speakers are more impressive and effective than megawatts of power, if you really must take up even more stage area then buty a power amp and some pa speakers of your own and slave away!
 15.
think its a First Act Delgada
I do believe you are entirely and utterly correct sir!
 16. Anybody see the bass used by Avril Lavigne's bassist on the friday night project this weekend for the last song? Looked a bit thunderbird/Rd gibsonish but with a strange headstock - any ideas?
 17.
whats that harmonic booster?who makes it?
Ok further update now that Higgie has put me back in touch with the website that knows all about obscure pedals. Other similar pedals are to be found here:- http://filters.muziq.be/search/node/jennings
 18.
http://filters.muziq.be is probably the most comprehensive list I have ever seen.
Cheers Higgie - that is indeed the one that I had lost - thanks!
 19. Hi Folks A while back I stumbled across a really good website where the guy was collecting photos, descriptions, reviews and circuit layouts for all and any effects pedals. Of course I added it to my favourites but when my laptop packed in I had not backed up the favourites list so lost the link. Anybody got any good sites to search for obscure pedals?
 20. Or you could go for something like this:- http://www.basscentre.com/cat/product_info...roducts_id=1212 ?
 21. I have a sub 5 active. I bought it beause I love Sngrays and wanted to check out playing 5 string. I have never played a Stingray 5. Sub 4's are brilliant - very like a 'Ray in most things except the body contours and the finish. Tone and dynamics are superb. But the sub 5 seems to lose a lot in comparison. Now maybe so does the 'Ray 5, but I have never played one so I cannot say for sure. I have played other Sub5's and they are very consistent in this. I have avoided playing a "real" one as I did not in general get along with the 5 string concept (very short stubby fingers and limited imagination) And if I tried a nice 5Ray, I would probably weaken and buy it, then the wife would want another designer handbag or designer shoes to compensate and it would get very messy and extortionate for a bass I probably will not play very much! Such is life.
 22.
Hehe I understand why you have the black tape on the hartke, essential!
Yes absolutely invisible otherwise, no idea what settings you are on without the tape. Otherwise it is an absolute blinder of a pedal the tone worked for me straight away. I am still struggling to find anything apart from average tones from the sansamp programmable BDDi, I know everyone else thinks it is better than the Hartke so maybe I am just deaf
 23.
Good God. Does Gaddaffi know you're hoarding that arsenal? :-D
If you look on Google Earth for Libya WMD you will find our house - Actually you wont because it is listed as a SAM site (Serious American Musicmen )
 24.
whats that harmonic booster?who makes it?
Aha - wondered if anyone would spot that It was made by Jennings Electronic in the 60's part of a pretty rare series of pedals ,never seen another one and the pedal guru's on the web do not seem to know of them in general (or I have been looking on the wrong sites) Jennings were in the same bunch as Watkins and Vox etc. at that time lots of people moved between the companies I think. Anyhow, the black circle is a volume control and swivels round in aa nice ankle twisting fashion, and the three switches cut in three different frequency boosts. Just what the aspiring rock star needed to overdrive his ac30 without removing all the tiles from the wimpy bar 200 yards away
