3. Two trace elliot compact cabs. 2x10h cab £200 1x15 cab £150 Or £300 the pair NOW £250!! Both in mint condition only used in my bedroom.
4. The Ken smith black tiger is on it's way to finland as Ville (Nobody's perfect) on here has Made a deal with me. I've withdrawn the warwick thumb as that one is a bit special to me
5.
So it's been about a month since I got it and I'm still just as in love, I've never felt before that a bass was my bass if that makes sense, but this just feels like a perfect fit
Very nice !! I do love the sweet tone of a fretless thumb, Here's my one
6. Fretless bass playing: 1 Vibrato helps with intonation problems & adds to the fretless vibe nicely (you'll need to practice this to good effect) 2 The left hand thumb position helps so you arn't constantly looking at the neck all night (asuming you are right handed of course) The strings i use on my fretless thumb (ebony board) are labella slappers nickel light guage roundwound as i like the sound & feel, many fretless players use flatwound to save wear & tear on the board but i could never get on with the sound or feel of them.
7. I've just bought a set of smith strings from Gareth with no problems at all, 1st class guy to deal with
8.
GAAAAS incoming.......!
It looks very similar to that Ibanez in your avatar
9. Ok, It has arrived, FIRST IMPRESSIONS: From opening the triangle shaped cardboard box it came in, there was an initial wow factor to it, nice wood, thru neck,Abalone inlay in the headstock. On closer inspection certain flaws come to light, the finish is a very rough coating of some kind of varnish (feels horrible) the join between the body wings & the centre section aren't perfect showing a very slight gap just by the end of the bridge unit. SET UP, SOUND & PLAYABILITY: The set up from the box isn't too bad, just a slight tweaking of the dual trus rods & individual saddles gets a super low action with no buzzing or other unwanted noises, the intonation was spot on too The machine heads & bridge units are made by wilkinson & are of good quality. PLUGGED IN with the original strings on sounded ok but the B string sounded muddy & undefined so i thought to be fair to it i'll restring it, so on went a set of warwick black label medium lights. So with new strings on this thing comes to life & the B string now sounds as solid as the E string. Balance across the strings is very even. The pick ups are a pair of Kent Armstrongs (each individually wound for neck & bridge) The active three band circuit with active/passive switch has no name or numbers on it so i'm unsure what type it is?? With everything set flat & both pick ups at 50/50 the sound is very full with a nice top end bite to it, excellent for that percussive slap sound, pan towards the neck pick up & you get more of a punchy P bass sound, pan towards the bridge pick up & you get a nice funky honk type thing going on. The bass, treble & mid cut & boost are very responsive to the point that you have to keep an eye on the input gain on your amp to avoid over loading it when boosting as the output of this bass is very high. CONCLUSION: The first thing i did was to completely strip this bass down back to the bare wood after removing all the electrics, pick ups etc. I then gave it an oil finish so it just needs waxing periodically. It now looks & feels superb & could easily pass as a bass worth at least a grand , considering this cost me £280 inc shipping it was a real bargain! especially for a neck thru bass made of solid walnut & maple. These are the pics of the finished result
10. If you can, try one of the smx range combo or head & cab they are amazing!
11. Sadistic Who Me....Never I had to buy her a bass as she kept nicking my warwick every time my back was turned!!!!
12.
always been intrigued by these. They don't look to be too bad in terms of quality! Reviews always appreciated
Ok, Watch this space!! It should be with me in a week or so.
13. I have just bought a 6 string hk bass from that german ebay Dude, it cost me £280 inc shipping it has a through neck,Kent armstrong p'ups, 3 band eq, walnut body, maple & pallisander neck. Even if it needs a little finishing & tweaking here & there it seems like a good cheap bass to get my girlfriend started on, If anyones interested i will give a full review of it on here, ie build quality, finish, sound, playability ect, Here are some pics from the auction: it seems he uses the one photo for all his auctions of this bass so i should imagine the wood grain will be different.
14. It's a real shame though, it's a lovely looking bass
15.
Thanks for the heads up. I've been keen to get one of these for a long time. Why do you feel it's suspect? (pm me if you feel its more appropriate). All the best Gary.
He will only post it once you have sent the money to him, he will not allow you to collect it or even come to see & inspect it first, when i asked for his phone number (a land line) that was the last i heard from him, It just seems really dodgey to me
16. I've just been offerd this wal for £1800 but i think it's a scam so if you see it advertised be carefull!!
17. You might sell it quicker if you put some pics up
18. These smx heads are awsome!! i have a 250 & 600smx & would never part with either of them,
19. I'll have £15 to spare on monday if thats any good?? i've been using stainless on my smith but wouldn't mind trying nickel ones out, i would just have to try & find a single c string
20. Don't do it!!!
21. I used to play 4 string until around 8 years ago when bought a 6 string & have never looked back, the bands & projects that i play in are quite diverse, one night i might be doing a funk gig, the next night a rock gig or even death metal, so having a 6 to hand i dont have to worry about odd tunings or having to improvise a solo.
22.
Nice Smith 6 there fella...bet thats rattled a few corkhead eardrums on the island!!
Cheers Dude The smith does get a fair bit of attention over here as no one seems to know what it is, it really does have a voice of it's own "awsome slap machine"
23. At last some non blury pics of me doing what i do
24.
Martin at Sei basses charged me £130 to fret a fretless bass, that included a perfect setup. It took him two days to cut the fret slots by hand, the neck was bound and he didn't want to damage the binding. He did a fantastic job. My advice is this....if you can't afford to have it done by a professional like Martin, then wait a few weeks until you can. It'll be cheaper in the long run.
Martin at the gallery (sei bass) is the only guy i would trust, i've even had him replace two fingerboards for me, one on my wal & another on my warwick thumb nt6, both were fretted originaly & now they're both plain ebony fretless basses, his work is 2nd to none
25. I have the same cab as this & paired up with my trace 4x10 & ah600smx makes for the most awsome rig i've ever heard or used, some one needs to buy this cab!!!!
