1. For the record, I don't like bent tin bridges - but that's largely because they look cheap & shoddy, not because of any quantifiable - or indeed noticeable - difference in sound. J.
 2. Retard. And that's your air he's breathing, kids. J.
 3.
I must admit I would love that neck, wonder if he would split it up... Only joking imagine the neck in his eyes is worth £800 or something.... That ebay ad is making me cross looking at it, I must move away from the computer.
Try him. Eventually he'll either have to see sense & part it out/sell it for a realistic amount - or stick it back in the loft. J.
 4.
Expectations, you get a cheap bass and you make allowances, an expensive is expected to be perfect, and everybody likes to convince themselves they've got a bargain. I've got an old Hondo that I like to play but when playing in a band a MIA P justs cuts through better and has a tighter low end
Ever tried swapping the pups & taking the Hondo out? That'd be an interesting experiment. Pretty much all of my basses are cheapos (mostly under 3 figures) and I have some absolute stunners. When the bottom line is simply wood & wires - which it is - then it's hard not to end up having the broad impression that big-money basses are more about what they are than what they do. I played a Squier the same as the one being discussed & it was lovely - didn't want to put it down. Jon.
 5.
Transaction Blocked We're sorry, but the seller of this item is unable to receive funds at this time.
Well - that explains why it's still there. Jon.
 6. Get a Schaller 3D. More compact, better looking & more adjustable than a BadAss - & they come up used for less than £30. Plenty of people will tell you that the bent tin bridge does exactly the same job as a Badass (or any other aftermarket upgrade) & if it was good enough for Uncle Leo then we have nothing to moan about. They might have a point. Jon.
 7. Obviously the magic vintage Korean plywood of a genuine Hondo body would account for the rest of the value of this remarkable instrument - but unfortunately without a documented provenance to prove its identity he's f*cked. This has been mentioned before (can't find it now though) so clearly he's determined. You'd think it would make sense to either part it out or spend £30 on a proper body & bolt the decent bits on, then he might at least get what the good bits are worth. And then he could keep hold of the bit of plywood, for sentimental reasons. Jon.
 8. They would still have sounded exactly like a re-warmed QOTSA. Meh. Jon.
 9.
Yeah sometimes I take things too easy and drag my arse about doing anything, sorry amigo! But I put it in the post to you today so you should have it by about Thursday fella, cheers and ta for waiting.
No problem - dropped through my door this morning as it happens! So cheers - I'll get stuck into it over lunch, I think. Jon.
 10.
Also Dreamtheater seemed to overlooked including the bass guitar on some of their latest releases
That's just ripping off Metallica, circa 1988! Has anyone mentioned the horribly & repeatedly flubbed keyboard solo line in the Stranglers' Sweden (All Quiet On The Eastern Front)? Jon.
 11.
Can he do that?
No, under UK Ebay regs he can't. However it looks like he's advertising this on US Ebay, not UK (the price is in dollars), and Ebay regulations for Septics are nothing like as punitive & extortionate as they are here. Oh & he's a dealer - check out his other listings. He's been tying to punt this for more than a year - I've noticed it coming up in my searches over & over again. J.
 12. It's a looker alright, whatever it is. Wonder if the fleamarket story's true - I go to my local car boot religiously (well, it is on a Sunday morning!) every week, hoping to find something like this for £25! Jon.
 13. Was that yours up for £150 BIN? Result - and BC's loss. J.
 14. He might've given it a clean - that fretboard's vile. Jon.
 15. That's a beaut, alright - I think it'll go for a bit more than that £106, sadly! Jon.
 16. Plug it on this thread - it's entirely relevant! Jon.
 17.
I'm a fan of the ZF. They make perfect sense and no-one on this planet may argue differently. If they do, they are nuts.
Amen, brother. J.
 18. It's an incredibly sensible idea which for some reason has been tarred with the notion that it's a cheapskate corner cut. All basses & guitars should have zero-frets. You know it makes sense. Jon.
 19.
Moon was a vastly overated drummer. He is one of those guys who got better after he died.
In what way overrated? He was a one-off, absolutely no-one played & sounded like him in the early days of The Who. For that reason he's one of the most fundamentally influential drummers in the history of rock. How, exactly, do you "overrate" an originator? J.
 20.
Discuss
Could do with a good clean, those stickers will come off easily if you warm them with a hairdryer, sensible choice of bridge. J.
 21. The Who's last album was Endless Wire, at the end of 2006. It's a lot better than it has any real right to be - and so are the band on the strength of that performance. Townsend's vocals were pretty rough & he was trying far too hard, Daltrey's still got it though, even though he might not have the range he had 40 years ago. The mix for the first few minutes was dire & I think exaggerated vocal imperfections somewhat. So yes, I did enjoy it - but compare it to the Live8 perfomance from 2005, the vocals were spot on (Townsend particularly) & the band seemed to have far more energy. Admittedly for that gig the rhythm section was Damon Minchella & Steve White - & for me Damon's a far better bassist for The Who than Pino. If I remember rightly the whole thing was so last-minute, he had a day to learn the parts & just one rehearsal. Anyway whatever, cabaret or not, I'd still go & see them if they ever mainline enough Sanatogen to be able to tour - The 'Oo were the first rock band I ever got into, way before I ever picked up a bass, & Townsend's possibly the most unique & influential songwriter/guitarist this country's ever produced, even if his web-browsing history's a bit dubious. True, they're not the band they once were - but they haven't been for 32 years. Jon.
 22.
El Maya here for £200 with only an hour or so on it: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT I'd absolutely love it (had an El Maya guitar in the early 80s and it was fantastic) but no mun mun right now.
I think £200 start's a bit steep for that, been watching it just to see if anyone would. Worth pointing out, it's a Maya, not an El Maya. The two brands were owned by the same company (Rokkomann) but El Maya was the upmarket iteration while Maya was somewhat more cheap & cheerful - for example this one is sporting big black oversprays on the contours, which is usually an indication of ply construction. It's a nice bass but I'd say £150 would be much more realistic. J.
 23. Don't hold your breath - I haven't had it off BassJase yet! I did tell him there was no hurry, though. J.
 24. Rule 3 - ignore them, for them it's all part of being American and twelve. Jon.
 25.
That's our old mate ashdigits. He turns up quite often in the Japcrap and Rickenfaker threads.
Indeed he does - and having doubtless offloaded a Hondo or twenty, I can visualise his nose extending & pushing the monitor off the back of the table as he typed this:
The instrument was made in Korea at I believe the Samick factory where quality control is second to none.
Jon.
