  1. Agreed, they sound great. I thought I was managing my GAs but those clips do not help at all.
  2. Have you first hand experience with the Kent Armstrong's stew ?
  3. Not the hand wound custom pickups that he's renowned for but the (Korean??) models for sale at WD Music. Anyone have any experience with this range of pickups? Background to this I'm looking to change the pickups in my Sandberg PJ from the super clean Delano's to something more vintage sounding. Both my Shuker and ACG J basses have handwound pickups from Aaron Armstrong. I'm planning to swap the Shuker pickups (70s style wind) out for some Nordstrand split coils and I was going to reuse the J pickup from that in the Sandberg. I contacted Aaron for some options for a P pickup to match the J. He replied very quickly and obviously he could do something hand wound for me but he actually recommended one of these for about 1/2 the price: https://www.wdmusic.co.uk/electronics-c17/kent-armstrong-guitar-pickups-c100/kent-armstrong-bass-pickups-c101/kent-armstrong-hot-p-bass-pickup-alnico-magnet-enclosed-cover-p14226 Does anyone have any experience with them? They seem very cheap compared with most of the alternatives out there.
  4. I feel like it should have a maple neck and fingerboard ...
  5. Thanks for the video lesson last night Andy .. even after 6 pints and a curry you can still bring the funk!
  6. Sorry to hear about your experiences - I really hope USPS find your bass safe and well. Honesty, in your shoes I'd be fuming angry about the situation built up from a culmination of frustration, disappointment and worry. It's obviously a combination of issues but ultimate responsibility is with the dealer your ordered from .. it's their responsibility to make sure it is built to your specification and delivered to you safely. Good luck, keep us updated.
  7. Hi Guys , Looking for some pointers on how to play a specific technique that I can't seem to get sounding right. Not sure on the proper name, I've seen shake and sting but it's the practice of wiggling your fretting finger between two frets to get that neat trill type effect There's a great example in Incognito's Closer to the Feeling just after the 20 second mark. I just can't get it sounding that good - any tips / tricks?
  8. @SteveXFR - I'm struggling with the same thing. I fear I've been rather oblivious to my timing issues but I've been recording myself more recently and realised that actually I'm a little more out of the pocket than I would have liked. My biggest problem is I over anticipate the next note and play notes a fraction ahead of the beat. I glad I stumbled on this thread. @TKenrick - I'll check out your video , I've enjoyed some of your previous videos so I'm looking forward to this one. @dodge_bass- thanks for the book recommendation. I'll check that out too.

    Boss SY-1

Yes, I really should have made a note of them shouldn't I

    Boss SY-1

I was having a good play with the SY-1 last night and I ended up with an accidental creation that @Al Krow suggested I posted here. All the sound scaping and FX in the audio clip were generated with the bass into the SY-1, the bass riff that comes in uses an OC-2 octave.
  11. There's a place in kings Langley called Rhona's I believe. I suspect that's where you mean

Thanks @Al Krow - are you using these settings for any of your bands repertoire or are they sounds you've found and like?+

Did you have the organ sound blended with the Bass and playing in unison, or were you holding the FS to have the organ sound sustained whilst you played bass over it (I think that's a feature)

    Boss SY-1

OK SY-1 Lovers I've had my SY-1 pedal a week now, and a few evenings of knob tweaking and fiddling. There's a ton of sounds in that sparkly blue box but I'm struggling to settle on any that are really doing it for me. For anyone regularly using this pedal would you mind sharing some of your presets and what you're using them for to help spark my creativity - particularly any lead 'synth tones' or moogish synth bass settings.
  15. St. Albans would be a perfect location for me ... I'm suprised there isn't an established rehearsal studio there already. Perhaps I'll start one.
  16. Looks great Andy. Was it a straight retrofit or did you have to drill new holes? How hard was it to set up post installation in regards to getting saddle positions set correctly for height and intonation?
  17. So @sgh - do I get commission for brokering this sale?; Perhaps a handsome discount off that Spitfire you're selling?
  18. There was an OC-2 going for £80 and an OC-5 going for £105 in the FS section of this forum last week. Both excellent prices so not sure if they are still available, I've not tried the OC-5 but the OC-2 is my favourite for that synthy tone it generates. From what I've read the OC-5 replicates that well but with better tracking. If that OC-2 tone isn't what you're looking for then the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe pedal is pretty good. The Octabre and MXR Vintage Bass Octave are both OC-2 clones I believe.
  19. Do you happen to know what it's called Mick? Cheers Lozz. I'll check them out too
  20. Evening Basschatters, For those of you in the West Herts / North London area do you have any rehearsal studio recommendations? I typically use Sanctuary Studios in Watford as it's super local to me but I fancy trying a few new places and don't mind travelling a bit. Any recommendations on alternative places? Thanks
  21. Gary, what's your rate for changing pickups? I hate soldering and can never make a neat job of it.
  22. Looks like a beast of a cabinet .. and only 25kg!I Iwonder if you can refinish that red backboard purple???
  23. Some hot red head chick is moving one on IIRC
