1. We play basses, not armchairs, so whatever goes.....goes.
 2.
Jaco - Ceilliau y ci! (as we say round here)
Huntington's Disease? He is the smelly cushion humpers, pup gravy containers.
 3. Agreed, he was the Dali of bass guitarists, all the the time, all of the time.
 4. Well if I could get up off the floor when pissed (possibly tomorrow night) (stay away from the Corn Exchange... Liverpool) and sound that good, then I'll be happy.
 5.
That doesn't nothing at all for me. Sorry. But this does: Birdland
Erskine is a maniac, a big hairy drum*****f***er of a maniac.
 6.
Body?
Errrr, let me explain, I mean the way he struts, hits the bass and just the general groovyness of him....errr that has probably put me in even deeper water.
 7.
That one clip is still one the best bass solos I've heard, purely for the sudden interruption of the distorted section with the harmonics - lovely stuff. Always makes me smile and tap my foot. So good, it made me register and and post for the first time, so there you go. Ta, Al
Hi Al I'm so glad this thread made you join Basschat, we have had a few miserable weeks on here with people being ripped off and a general mankyness going on, hopefully this thread can carry on in a civil manner. God bless one and all.
 8.
I still stand by my comments made on this thread. Can admire it... but it doesn't move me.
Didn't notice this before, didn't realise this had been started already. I think people feel intimidated be the percieved "freedom" of his playing, and yes, he could improvise but hell, he could nail a tune night after night. He was a total f***ing dude.....end of.
 9. Not all artist paint bowls of fruit.
 10. After 20 odd years of listening to him and thank god for You Tube, being able to see him, he has always messed with my sensibilities of what it is to be a bass guitarist. Bi Polar disorder, incredible stamina, a musical knowledge of unimaginable proportions and thinking that you are it and a bit = Jaco.
 11. Body, bass, sound, oh yes. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fOqR84PtctA&...feature=related

 13.
Do i look like im on a diet?! As for price - We all know the one at denmark street at 1799 has been there pretty much since amps where invented. A v4 went recently for 600, a v8 for 1000 and something, so somewhere between the two would be reasonable. It is currently out of action due to a fuse being stuck. I have a quote of 50 quid to fix it. If you want it before i fix it i'll be more open to negotiation. I must also note, im open to part ex's on small combos. Cheers!
How much did Ped sell it to you for?
 14. Greasy Spoon, yum. Reminds me of reharsing over in Liverpool in the late 80's and going for an all day breakie afterwards. We went to a place called The Hole in the Wall, right by the Mersy tunnel enterance, they use to do this thing called a "Scaffolders Sspecial" which was 3 pieces of toast (one cut diagonally and each half placed at the side of the plate for maximum surface area) which were then covered in cheese, this was then melted and covered in beans and a crowning glory of 2 fried eggs placed on top, with a pint mug of tea. Echo and the Bunnymen use to eat in there too. Great looking studio Tombboy.
 15. Groovy bass, great bassist and band and Top Gear theme tune to boot, you can't go wrong. What was the question?
 16. £300 gets you a cracker of a rig, that amp looks a menace.
 17.
Yep, another successful visit to Colchester (aka. Santa Green's Grotto) today. Picked up my new bass to replace my recently sold KingBass. It was a hard choice between the two in the end, but it came down to the fact that I like headless best & if I get a six-stringer, it needs to be a bolt-on with the phenowood neck like my other 5er. The myrtle-wood five is not only stunning, but the most beautiful Status I've seen. Many thanks again to Rob & Dawn for putting up with my indecisiveness for at least two hours! Enjoy, everyone! The Creator... All bow/prostraint yourselves in a fitful manner! Me with my new bass...
Looks like you and Rob were listening to some serious Dub and having a good old puff.
 18. Nice, now get it photo'ed so we can perv.
 19. Soundz nize duzzent it.
 20.
That's a nice thought, but Ticklish are all but retired these days (we were one of the first UK groups to sit round a table and perform on laptops with visual projections) but then everyone started doing it and from a performance point of view I thought the group had become outdated. I still think we managed to make some of the squelchiest abstract electronica around.
Hi Kev the last time I went to an "event" it was labled "Gothic Futurism" with the London Symphonia doing a Steve Reich piece, with Jamie Lidell, Squarepusher and as brilliant as it was, it had still become a brand, the freeform aspect was lost on the first gig. It was a warp artists "Two Tone Tour".
 21. Hi Shaun glad you ended up with the Harlot, I think Alans basses are Britains best kept secrets. When you hear guitarists talking about their Les Pauls, the don't often moan about the weight but they always celebrate the tone. Kev, maybe a light Alder bodied bass, with wenge bubinga neck would be nice?
 22. Hi Col I use to own an SVP Pro and I still own a SVT IIP. I run the SVP Pro like this, unbalanced out from the phono outs, into the left hand side of the power amp (bridged into 4 ohms), then out into a 4 ohm cab. Sounded great, what ohmage is your cab? You should be getting a signal by using the DI out, the switch next to it gives either eq or no eq. Here is a link to the manual. http://ampeg.com/pdf/SVP-PRO.pdf Get in touch if you need any more help. Steve.
 23.
Varifocals. I'll get me coat.

Shoulda gone to specsavers....
What basses did you boys start with, Alembics? Looks like a lot of bass for the money. And an amp!
 24.
For you, Merton-Hobbitsesss??? Nooo! Preccioussss Myrtle-wood bassesss is all minsessss!!!
Potential Status owners beware, this is what happened to OTPJ when he had to go into rehab for excessive purchases of Statii basses.
 25. Hi Kev do you or Ticklish have any shows up north in the near future? If so I could bring the ACG along for you to see, it's a sixer, so be warned, heavy. PS I'll sing for you, I have quite a high tenor. Kind of alto-macho.
