Reggaebass

I’m not an experienced compressor user but I’ve got the Ashdown macchiato , it works very well for me, and having the dark, medium and light controls allows the bass ,middle and treble to be compressed individually. when activated it also gives a bit of a boost to the volume 🙂

Imo, this is a very good idea, you can’t really go wrong with a Sandberg, there’s a long thread about them on here and to my knowledge I don’t think anyone has had a bad one, they play very nice and are well built , also at that price, if for some reason you don’t like it you won’t lose much money , good luck with your search TJ1, I look forward to seeing what you get 🙂

I didn’t go to the shop to buy one, I only went to pick up a bass I had repaired, but while I was waiting I tried them all out , and the one thing that I noticed was how nice the necks are to play, I ended up buying a custom built one 😀

I’ve had in excess of 35 fender jazz basses, mostly Mia and mim, and for your budget I would go for a s/h mexican fender jazz, they are also easy to upgrade if you ever wanted to, it’s also worth looking at Tokai jazz, I bought one for very little money and it’s superb 🙂

Welcome TJ1, It’s worth a look at Sandberg , you would get a nice one for that budget, they are very well built basses ,and they have lots to choose from ,and also various pickup configurations to suit most styles 🙂 edit , kingprawn beat me to it 😁
