A good price? - If selling - £400 - £450 If buying - £350 - £400 Hamster
So, about £400 then? When I sold mine it was for about £500 which included the John East Pre, so about £400 if it's 100% stock and in good condition wouldn't be unfair I think....
Pre Mark King slap was great, a feel thing, a funky groove. From Mark King onwards slap became a speed freak, technical exercise. Boring!!
+1
What's your ideal bass tone - and have you got it yet?
Good thread! The answer for me is yes, but there's more than one 'ideal tone' which makes it kind of more fun.. If I was in a band playing original music then I'd probably be searching for one sound but playing a wide variety of covers means that I need to be able to recreate lots of different tones. From a 60's Motown thump playing 'Valerie' through to a clanky rock sound when doing stuff like the Killers.. I doubt I get anywhere achieving all of them but it's great fun trying and keeps me interested.

Hi Folks, With apologies to Marcus who's currently selling a 700 RB II (the later version of this amp), I'm also putting my GK 700 RB up for sale, though it's the older model 700 and the asking price reflects that fact! Though I've used this amp very happily for the last year, I'm selling because I now need an amp that will work at 2ohms so that I can use my SWR Triad and SWR 210 at the same time (both of which are 4ohm cabs). So, a Peavey T-Max head is due to arrive imminently to allow me to do just that... Otherwise, I'd be keeping this GK700 because it's a great sounding, very versatile and very portable amp and it's been absolutely brilliant for gigging with! It has the usual GK features; simple to use e.q. including the pre-set for use with 5 string basses which is great, a contour control (which is kind of like the Trace Elliot mid-cut) and the 'boost' control which adds some grit and dirt to your sound a bit like a tube pre-amp does.. The tuner out function is very handy, as is the mute switch and the 10db cut facility at the input stage. And although I've never really used it, the amp has a bi-amp facility as well which allows you to run the very high frequencies seperately from the rest of the frequencies. When I got it from Ebay, the first thing I did was get it serviced and it was given a clean bill of health and a bit of a spring clean, so it's in perfect working order. Cosmetically it's a bit tatty as you can see in the photos but that doesn't affect the sound in any way. Just in case anyone asks, I'm not after any trades as I need to sell this to fund the T-Max and though I'm putting it up here, I'm aware that there's a lot of good stuff on the Forum for sale at the moment, so I'm also going to be listing this on Ebay too. But in an ideal world, I'd much rather sell to a fellow Basschat member if I can! I'm happy to ship it if necessary or collection is welcome, as is coming round to try it out! If you've any questions, please PM me or ask away here.. Thanks for looking, Nik

I wondered about that but then decided Charla was referring to the Leo Fender designed Musicman e.q., circa the mid '70s, when the Musicman Bass was launched.

The John East MM pre was installed the Sub5 that I brought from The Beedster. IIRC, that all happened after John East had a running dialogue in his Forum with people like OBBM and others here about the idea of a specific MM circuit, which inspired Beedster to get it fitted. He even then went on to modify the Sub5 to look like a natural 70's Ray, which he did brilliantly! Just to say that in my view, the East designed 'pre' emulated the original 2-band Musicman Stingray e.q. really well, and had the added bonus of a variable mid e.q. sweep which made for a really flexible circuit. In the end I sold the bass because I wanted a passive 5 in the end and one with 2 p/ups, but I rate the John East circuit very highly...
I really like the original 1976 US Spector SB1! That's really unusual. What's the pickup? Looks a bit like a chrome Model 1? And how does that sound?
+1 A great collection overall though! Have you got shares in the company??

Hey Cliff Do a search in the Effects forum for 'Zoom' and a lot of stuff comes up, like this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=696&hl=zoom I've had mine a year or more now and it's been very reliable, easy to use and it definitely helps my sound mainly through using the amp modeling presets. And as you say, it's such good value for money (picked it up for £45 here..).. Without having tried lots of others, it's not easy to say if it's the best out there, but it's definitely one of them! Nik

I actually prefer mine to the DJ5 I'd bought from P-T-P last year, though that's a great bass as well..

I'll give the hotel a call tonight to see if I can get answers for the last two questions, if the answers don't appear here first...
They do now, because the black one has the proper 'blade' pups installed same as the sunburst. The 'toaster' pups it's sporting in the photo were taken from an older, natural T-40 as the neck pup it was originally supplied with was faulty (Fixed by Wizard Pickups). The two different types of pup sound slightly different... with the older, toaster style being slightly more mellow than the more 'in your face' sound from the later blade pups.
I'd heard that the pick up design changed at some point during production.. The one I had was with the earlier design p/up.. It was quite mellow I suppose thinking back.. -
I think it's an excessive 20! (Possibly 19?) Although I'm not totally certain. One of those is sold awaiting the original owner to raise the funds to buy it back and I've a new bass being made by Alan at ACG Oh and that was a 'fish' for a BBC bite but he's not taking it Peter
Hi Peter. I always thought 19 was better than 20! That's quite a collection to say the least.. isn't it time for another thread on them with some new photos? Nik P.S. what's happened to BBC lately?
On G-Mail, there is a little bar above your inbox that has single line adverts, and about 20 minutes ago there was an advert for www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk, so i took a look, and found a Peavey T 40 with possibly the most beautiful finish i've ever seen: i must get round to selling my kidney....
They're very nice basses and this is a very nice example! I had a natural one which I foolishly sold 2 years ago It was very heavey but the pay-off for the extra weight was that tonally it was absolutely lovely! Not sure if it's true but I read somewhere that T-40s are very popular amongst the session bass players in Nashville.. Finnbass; those two you have are 2 very beautiful basses! Do they sound the same? -
Hiya Nik I am trying to reduce numbers but with the state of the market it seems that so often I end up trading my basses and 'enhancing' my already excessive collection. Saying that I am in the process of selling 2 basses. The Thumb is a dream realized. Peter
Nice to see somebody's dream come true!! But isn't it so difficult not to keep GAS-ing for more and more basses? Years ago, I had a Thumb 5 for a while and didn't get on with it, but just looking at the pictures of your new addition is making me think again about one.... ...changes subject.. So, just how 'excessive' is 'excessive' then and is there anything we can do to help?
